Presently, no standard methods are available for the accurate estimation of total stem CO2 efflux from a forest. In the current study, a 33-year-old (by the year 2001) larch (Larix gmelini Rupr.) plantation was measured throughout 2001-2002 to analyze its monthly and seasonal patterns of stem respiration. Stem respiration rate was also measured at different heights, at different daily intervals and any variation in the larch plantation was recorded. The relationship between stem temperature, growth status and respiration rate was analyzed. Higher respiration rates were recorded in upper reaches of the larch tree throughout the season and these were affected partially by temperature difference. Midday depression was found in the diurnal changes in stem respiration. In the morning, but not in the afternoon, stem respiration was positively correlated with stem temperature. The reason for this variation may be attributed to water deficit, which was stronger in the afternoon. In the larch plantation, a maximum 7-fold variation in stem respiration was found. The growth status (such as mean growth rate of stem and canopy projection area) instead of stem temperature difference was positively correlated with this large variation. An S-model (sigmoid curve) or Power model shows the greatest regression of the field data. In the courses of seasonal and annual changes of stem respiration, peak values were observed in July of both years, but substantial interannual differences in magnitude were observed. An exponential model can clearly show this regression of the temperature-respiration relationship. In our results, Q(10) values ranged from 2.22 in 2001 to 3.53 in 2002. Therefore, estimation of total stem CO2 efflux only by a constant Q(10) value may give biased results. More parameters of growth status and water status should be considered for more accurate estimation.展开更多

The biomass of 43 mono-species and soil nutrients in alpine tundra ecosystem were also investigated. Dominant species from Ericaceae (such as Rhododendron chrysanthum and Vaccinium jliginosum var. alpinum) were taken to analyze organ biomass distribution. Result showed that the biomass and elevation had a significant correlation (Biomass-237.3 in(Elevation) +494.36; R^2=0.8092; P〈0.05). No significant differences were found in phosphorus and sulphur concentrations of roots, stems and leaves among the five vegetation types. There were significant differences in nitrogen and phosphorus stocks of roots, stems and leaves and in sulphur stock of stems and leaves among TA, MA, and SA vegetation types (p〈0.05). The nutrient stock of five vegetations was averagely 72.46 kg.hm^-2, of which N, P, S were 48.55, 10.33 and 13.61 kg·hm^-2, respectively. Soil N and S concentrations in meadow alpine tundra soil type was significantly higher than those in other four soil types (Cold desert alpine tundra soil, Lithic alpine tundra soil, Peat alpine tundra soil, and Gray alpine tundra soil). Phosphorous concentration in SA type was higher (p〈0.05) than in other types. Soil nutrient stock (0-20cm) was averagely 39.59 t.hm^-2, of which N, P, S were 23.74, 5.86, 9.99 t·hm^-2, respectively.展开更多

ABA concentration in drought stressed leafless trees increased significantly compared to the controls. ABA both in roots and xylem rose steadily in the earlier drought stage, reaching a maximum of 1.46±0.35 nmol g\+\{ 1\}FW and 117 nmol l\+\{-1\} after the 8th day. Similar change patterns of ABA concentration was observed in the leafy trees during soil drought stress; ABA concentrations in roots and xylem sap increased and reached the maximum in the first three days; after 8th day , it decreased slightly, whereas leaf ABA concentration increased steadily in drought stressed plants throughout the duration of the experiment. Between drought stressed and control trees, no significant differences were observed in concentration of ZR and DHZR in both leafless and leafy trees; whereas iPA concentration of the drought stressed leafless and leafy plants decreased markedly in the later stage of drought. These results showed that endogenous ABA originated mainly from the roots in the earlier drought stage, and mainly from the leaves in the later drought stage. Total CTK showed no reduction in the earlier drought stage and decreased in the later drought stage.展开更多

Alkaline pretreatment is a common mean of pretreatment but microwave oven could assist its efficiency as it can reduce the pretreatment time and improve the enzymatic activity during hydrolysis. The aim of this paper is to determine lignin removal from banana trunk using microwave-assisted alkaline (NaOH and NH4OH) pretreatments. The best pretreatment conditions were used for mass pretreatment before hydrolysis and fermentation. The result shows that, optimum lignin removal was with microwave-assisted NaOH pretreatment with the removal of up to 98% lignin at 2% (w/v (weight/volum)) sodium hydroxide, 170 W microwave power at 10 rain. Microwave-assisted ammonium hydroxide pretreatment achieved 97% lignin removal at 1% ammonium hydroxide concentration and 680 W microwave power at 5 min. Microwave- alkaline assisted pretreatment increased the yield and quality of fermentable sugar after enzyme hydrolysis with NH4OH and ammonium hydroxide yielding 40% and 39% of ethanol, respectively. This result reveals that, well controlled microwave- alkaline assisted pretreatment of banana trunk could effectively remove lignin and give high bioethanol yield.展开更多

Mycelial growth on agar media (PDA, standard, wheat, MEA, CYM, PCA, sawdust extracts: alder and mixture of beech and birch (1:1)) and sawdust substrates (birch, beech, oak, maple, alder) was investigated. Petri dishes (Ф 9 cm) for agar media and biological tubes (18 cm long and Ф 2.5 cm) for sawdust substrates were used. Yield and morphological features were studied on birch, beech and mixture of beech and alder (1:1) sawdust substrates. The temperature of inoculation for agar media and sawdust substrates was 25 ℃. For yielding, when mycelium has completely overgrown the substrate the temperature was decreased to 15-17 ℃ to initiate primordia formation. The cultivation was enlightened 10 h/d with daylight lamps (500 Ix). One crop was harvested after five weeks. The carpophores of black poplar mushrooms were picked up in clusters. There was no statistically important difference between the mycelial growths of the investigated strains. The best growing agar media were PDA (7.3 cm), MEA (7.2 cm) and wheat (7.1 cm), both strains showed the slowest mycelium growth on CYM (5.2 cm). The mycelial growth on sawdust was the best on the beech (7.1 cm) and birch (6.8 cm) sawdust. The best substrate for cultivation ofA. aegerita was mixture of beech and alder sawdust (39.5 g/100 substrate DM). The dry yield of carpophores were the highest on beech and alder substrate (3.2 g/100 substrate DM), but dry matter content was the highest on beech sawdust (15.7%). The heaviest carpophores were harvested from birch sawdust (3.7 g); the biggest caps from beech and alder sawdust (3.3 cm). There were no statistically important differences between the mycelium growth and yielding between both investigated strains.展开更多

Stomatal conductance, transpiration rate and net photosynthetic rate were measured before and after each precipitation event, respectively, and the corresponding precipitation was recorded as well. Moreover, plant dry matter accumulation was counted at the end of our entire experiment. The results show that precipitation fully demonstrates its negative effect on plant photosynthesis under the condition of without water shortage. Although it has not been proved, leaf shape seems to be associated with this effect. Broad-leaved species are less influenced than coniferous and lanceleaf species no matter on the length of variation time or changes in variation values. The different situation among three broad-leaved species seems to illustrate that the effect is also related to the size of single leaf area. The correlation between precipitation and photosynthetic rate variation is analogous to the relationship between precipitation and splash erosion, and in the view of the relationship between plant photosynthetic characteristics and dry mass accumulation, it can be thought that it can reflect the negative impact of precipitation on plant growth by making use of splash erosion. Therefore, a section was added in the traditional plant biomass estimation algorithms by using eco-physiological models, and this was proved to enhance the accuracy of traditional estimation from preliminary verifications.展开更多
