Another aim was to determine possible differences among pupils, depending on their sex, age and environment. Furthermore, based on the anthropometric data (body mass and height) and age, this article was to determine the nutritional status of pupils. The research was conducted via questionnaire constructed for the needs of this specific research. Six hundred and fifty-one pupils took part in this questionnaire in a ratio of 41:59 urban/rural and 51:49 girls/boys. Most of the interviewed pupils (73.88%) have normal body mass according to their age. The share of underweight and overweight pupils is bigger among the boys. Nutritional habits differ among pupils from the urban and rural areas, but they do not differ as much among boys and girls. In addition, their nutritional habits become worse as they grow up.展开更多

The protease activity of the yeast cultures was estimated, after which four strains (HN3.11, Nllb, YF04C and HN4.9) capable of secreting extracellular alkaline protease were isolated. The isolated strains were identified as Aureobasidium pullulans, Yarrowia lipolytica, lssatchenkia orientalis and Cryptococcus cf. aureus. The optimal pH of the protease activity produced by strains HN3.11, YF04C, and HN4.9 was 9.0, while that of the protease produced by strain N1 lb was 10.0. The optimal temperature for protease activity was 45℃for strains HN3.11, N11b, and YF04C, and 50℃ for strain HN4.9. After digestion of shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) protein and spirulina (Arthospira platens&) protein with the four crude alkaline proteases, the filtrate from spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) powder digested by the crude alkaline protease of strain HNYl 1 was found to have the highest antioxidant activity (61.4%) and the highest angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory activities (68.4%). The other filtrates had much lower antioxidant activity and ACE-inhibitory activities.展开更多

Certain foods with chemical additives disguised as food can cause muscle and joint pain associated with arthritis, gout, fibromyalgia, obesity, cancer and others. Avoiding these foods can reduced inflammation, thus prevent obesity, cancer, and another disease. The target of the study was to find a relation between food type, anthropometric parameters and obesity-related diseases for university students in CoUege-Al Leith-Umm al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia. The purpose is to identify populations (100 subjects women, aged: 17-30 year, using questionnaire) who are malnourished or at nutritional risk. Participants were divided into normal-weight and obese groups. The different methods are used to collect data including: 1. Anthropometric, 2. Dietary: Nutritional History (Current Intake), 3. FFQ (Food frequency questionnaire). There is a significant association between certain food type, anthropometric parameters, obesity as well as other diseases including (vitamin D deficiency, kidney problems, bone pain, general weakness, thyroid problems, infertility.展开更多

However, the operating mechanisms have not yet been clearly identified, particularly under climate change conditions, although they are crucial for understanding carbon dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, a natural incubation experiment was carried out using intact soil cores transferred from high altitude(1 500 m) to low(900 m) altitude to mimic climate change scenarios in a typical cold-temperate mountainous area in Japan. Soil microbial activities, indicated by substrate-induced respiration(SIR) and metabolic quotient(q CO2), together with soil physicalchemical properties(abiotic factors) and soil functional enzyme and microbial properties(biotic factors), were investigated throughout the growing season in 2013. Results of principal component analysis(PCA) indicated that soil microbial biomass carbon(MBC) andβ-glucosidase activity were the most important factors characterizing the responses of soil microbes to global warming. Although there was a statistical difference of 2.82 ℃ between the two altitudes, such variations in soil physical-chemical properties did not show any remarkable effect on soil microbial activities, suggesting that they might indirectly impact carbon dynamics through biotic factors such as soil functional enzymes. It was also found that the biotic factors mainly controlled soil microbial activities at elevated temperature, which might trigger the inner soil dynamics to respond to the changing environment. Future studies should hence take more biotic variables into account for accurately projecting the responses of soil metabolic activities to climate change.展开更多
