As the fourth type of energy, biomass energy has many advantages: wide distribution, large quantity, being renewable, clean, storable and transportable and so on. By adopting thermo-chemical and biochemical technologies, biomass energy can be converted to high quality solid, liquid and gaseous energy products, and provide convenient heat and power energy for human being’s production and daily life. This paper presented the status quo of biomass power generation industry in China and also introduced briefly the future development models.展开更多

Anaerobic digestion is the eldest technology for waste stabilization and however by controlled decomposition a high value and marketable energy source can be produced. Whey is normally used as a component of dairy products or as an additive for food product. In our work we focused on another utilization method: biogas generating from membrane separated fractions i.e.: permeate and concentrate of whey. The effect of the pH, thermal, microwave pre-treatment and their combinations on the biogas yield were investigated. Our results showed that the applied pre-treatments had significant effect on biogas production. In consequence of the hydrolysis of large molecules the biodegradability of the pre-treated whey fractions was enhanced, therefore the biogas and methane production yield increased significantly.展开更多

Efficiency of direct tapping of biomass is about 15%-20%. Consequently, about 80% of energy would be waste in this method. While in co-generation power plant, this number could improve to more than 50%. Therefore, to achieve higher efficiency in utilizing biomass energy, co-generation power plants is proposed by using biogas as fuel instead of natural gas. Proposed system would be supplied thermal and electrical energy for non-urban areas of Iran. In this regard, process of fermentation and gas production from biomass in a vertical digester is studied and simulated using analytic methods. Various factors affecting the fermentation, such as temperature, humidity, PH and optimal conditions for the extraction of gas from waste agriculture and animal are also determined. Comparing between the pollution emission from fossil fuel power plants and power plants fed by biomass shows about 88% reduction in greenhouse emission which significant number.展开更多

In specific, the ability to design materials that can bend, twist, compress and stretch repeatedly, while still able to maintain its full capability as conductors or electrodes, has led to numerous efforts to develop flexible and stretchable (bio)devices that are both technologically challenging and environmentally friendly (e.g. biodegradable). In this review, we highlight several recent significant results that have made impacts toward the field of flexible and stretchable electronics, sensors and power sources.展开更多

Fuel cells have become a central part in solving challenges associated with energy conversion. This review summarizes recent development of catalysts used for fuel cells over the past 15 years. It is focused on polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells as an environmentally benign and feasible energy source. Graphene is used as a promising support material for Pt catalysts. It ensures high catalyst loading, good electro- catalysis and stability. Attention has been drawn to structural sensitivity of the catalysts, as well as polymetallic and nanos- tructured catalysts in order to improve the oxygen reduction reaction. Characterization methods including electrochemical, microscopic and spectroscopic techniques are summarized with an overview of the latest technological advances in the field. Future perspective is given in a form of Pt-free catalysts, such as microbial fuel cells for long-term development.展开更多
