Homeobox genes have been discovered in many species. These genes are known to play a major role in specifying regional identity along the anterior-posterior axis of animals from a wide range of phyla.The products of the homeotic genes are a set of evolutionarily conserved transcription factors that control elaborate developmental processes and specify cell fates in metazoans. Crustacean, presenting a variety of body plans not encountered in any other class or phylum of the Metazoa, has been shown to possess a single set of homologous Hox genes like insect. The ancestral crustacean Hox gene complex comprised ten genes: eight homologous to the hometic Hox genes and two related to nonhomeotic genes presented within the insect Hox complexes. The crustacean in particular exhibits an abundant diversity segment specialization and tagmosis. This morphological diversity relates to the Hox genes. In crustacean body plan, different Hox genes control different segments and tagmosis. 展开更多

Ubiquitous on earth,bacteriophages are the most abundant entities in every ecosystem,but human knowledge about them is still limited compared with that about other forms of organisms.To enrich human knowledge and promote the utilization of bacteriophages,it is necessary to isolate and characterize as many as possible different bacteriophages.Here we describe the isolation of a T4-like bacteriophage IME08 and a rapid method for its genetic characterization.With this method we easily cloned a few random fragments of the bacteriophage genome.Sequence analysis of these random clones showed that bacteriophage IME08 shared the highest sequence similarity with T4-like Enterobacteria phage T4(94%identity),JS98(95% identity),JS10(95%identity) and RB14(94%identity) respectively,which suggested that IME08 belonged to T4-like bacteriophage genus. 展开更多

Evaluation of Tablets Containing a Probiotic Strain for an Oral Administration

The scientific concept of probiotics has been widely accepted throughout the last decades; consequently, its industrial production and commercialization have been increased. This is only the beginning since a recent global probiotic market analysis estimated an annual growth, boosted mainly by a rising request from the Asian and European consumer in the next 5 years. So the pharmaceutical industry needs to develop new dosage forms containing probiotic microorganisms in order to offer consumers a variety of products. Different kinds of matrix tablets with Lactobacillus coryniformis CECT 5711 were designed to protect this strain from the technological process and harsh gastrointestinal conditions up until their arrival in the gut, as well as environmental conditions during their storage. With this aim, various retarding polymers were combined so as to get controlled release tablets. All formulations were evaluated in terms of technological processability, bacterial viability and stability. Finally, an optimal formulation with Methocel K-15 M EP, Eudragit L-100 and alginate sodium, which contain Lactobacillus coryniformis CECT 5711, was selected due to the fact that it assured an excellent survival of the microorganisms after their exposition to all conditions mentioned above, besides it will be able to improve human's health. 展开更多
