Taking Hengjing Town in Wuxian County of Jiangsu Province as a case study and the maximum income as a principle, and applying the GIS methods and their interrelated models, we have calculated the most optimized agricultural land and the possible maximum income of Hengjing Town. According to the method, we can rationally regulate local agricultural production, and put forward some scenarios for optimizing agricultural structure of Hengjing Town. The paper puts forward an evaluation method of land adaptability based on soil spatial analysis, and offers some research clews to optimize agricultural land use constitution, so the paper will be have important reference value for soil study.展开更多

Among the various methods used for generating artificial earthquake motions, the Synthesis Method of Trigonometric Function is used widely. In this method, artificial waves are reproduced by superimposing sine waves and then adding information about amplitude and phase in the frequency domain. In the Japanese architectural design code, the amplitude is standardized as the target response spectrum, and the phase can be defined by random numbers or by the phase of one observed wave. However, a random phase is distinctly different from the phase of an actual earthquake. Further, the phase of one observed wave is confined to the phase characteristic of the artificial wave of only one specific earthquake motion. In this paper, the authors introduce a new convenient method to reproduce artificial waves that not only satisfy the standardized spectrum property but also have the time-frequency characteristics of multiple observed waves. The authors show the feature of the artificial waves, discuss the merits of the method by comparing with existing methods, and report the tendencies of the non-liuear response by using simple model.展开更多

With the increasing number trend of high-rise building development, anti-seismic building requirement as an important part of architectural design is worthy of our exploration and study. Seismic resistance has become an important subject of engineering design. This paper will discuss the technical principle of seismic design in building structure design, so as to optimize the seismic design of high-rise building structure better.展开更多

This paper summarizes the dynamic analysis of a typical fixed platform under the earthquake loading in the seismically active area. The dynamic analysis includes interpretation of dynamic design parameters based on the available site-specific data, together with foundation design recommendations for earthquake loading conditions, which include free-field site response analyses, liquefaction analyses and soil-pile interaction analyses.展开更多

Janus Facades was asked to inspect the facade of a fourteen storey building which had a curtainwall-clad tower and granite and tile cladding on the three storey podium. The unitised curtainwall was not well designed. It did not have adequately sized joints in accordance with industry standards to absorb seismic effects and it was never really weathertight. Most of the damage to the curtainwall was caused by the damaged structure. Damage to the structure and internal fittings was also observed.展开更多

It is expected that there will be more heat waves, floods, bush fires, coastal erosion and drought. Unfortunately, Australia is vulnerable to climate change due its hot and dry climate and as the driest state; changes are already being felt in South Australia. There is an urgent need to start adapting to climate change to cope with present and predicted climate change in the future by changing or adjusting building regulations, land use plans, and land subdivision regulations. This paper aims to provide design guidelines for adaptation to climate change at the neighborhood level. A case study method was adopted to achieve the aim of this paper. The study was conducted in two stages. The first stage presents the current design of neighborhood and its adopted design parameters for climate change. The second part provides the design guidelines for adaptation to climate change at the neighborhood level. The case study has a well oriented grid iron layout that serves as the basis of orienting and sitting future buildings that can adapt to climate change. However, the orientation of roads is good, it will be necessary to reconfigure elements of landscaping and built environment in order to address climate change in built environment by modifying design elements.展开更多

During even moderate earthquakes, these buildings suffer heavy damages and brittle failures causing hundreds if not thousands of people to lose their lives and homes. Hence it is essential to build a house with lightweight materials that have an earthquake resistance with a proper safety. Recently in some countries such as USA, Italy, China and Turkey; a new building system called 3D wire panel building system use prefabricated lightweight panels to construct low-rise buildings up to three stories. The panels are fabricated from polystyrene, steel, and shotcrete concrete .The lightweight of these panels, easy handling, high construction speed, good heat insulation properties, in addition to their low cost by avoiding formwork and need for skilled workers make it an acceptable construction practice. In the literature, there is no enough information on the design rules of this new building system .This paper presents some hits on the design rules and some applications in Turkey such as construction of a factory, construction of a three story villa and construction of mosque domes.展开更多
