Video streaming,especially hypertext transfer protocol based(HTTP) adaptive streaming(HAS) of video,has been expected to be a dominant application over mobile networks in the near future,which brings huge challenge fo...Video streaming,especially hypertext transfer protocol based(HTTP) adaptive streaming(HAS) of video,has been expected to be a dominant application over mobile networks in the near future,which brings huge challenge for the mobile networks.Although some works have been done for video streaming delivery in heterogeneous cellular networks,most of them focus on the video streaming scheduling or the caching strategy design.The problem of joint user association and rate allocation to maximize the system utility while satisfying the requirement of the quality of experience of users is largely ignored.In this paper,the problem of joint user association and rate allocation for HTTP adaptive streaming in heterogeneous cellular networks is studied,we model the optimization problem as a mixed integer programming problem.And to reduce the computational complexity,an optimal rate allocation using the Lagrangian dual method under the assumption of knowing user association for BSs is first solved.Then we use the many-to-one matching model to analyze the user association problem,and the joint user association and rate allocation based on the distributed greedy matching algorithm is proposed.Finally,extensive simulation results are illustrated to demonstrate the performance of the proposed scheme.展开更多

Rec...The concurrent presence of different types of traffic in multimedia applications might aggravate a burden on the underlying data network, which is bound to affect the transmission quality of the specified traffic. Recently, several proposals for fulfilling the quality of service(QoS) guarantees have been presented. However, they can only support coarse-grained QoS with no guarantee of throughput, jitter, delay or loss rate for different applications. To address these more challenging problems, an adaptive scheduling algorithm for Parallel data Processing with Multiple Feedback(PPMF) queues based on software defined networks(SDN) is proposed in this paper, which can guarantee the quality of service of high priority traffic in multimedia applications. PPMF combines the queue bandwidth feedback mechanism to realise the automatic adjustment of the queue bandwidth according to the priority of the packet and network conditions, which can effectively solve the problem of network congestion that has been experienced by some queues for a long time. Experimental results show PPMF significantly outperforms other existing scheduling approaches in achieving 35--80% improvement on average time delay by adjusting the bandwidth adaptively, thus ensuring the transmission quality of the specified traffic and avoiding effectively network congestion.展开更多

Social media has become an inevitable part of our lives in the age of network society. People establish multiple identities for themselves, with or without references to the real world, and behave according to those i...Social media has become an inevitable part of our lives in the age of network society. People establish multiple identities for themselves, with or without references to the real world, and behave according to those identities. Self-made components of virtual presence are not limited to identities only; many users also create hyper-personalities for themselves with the help of new technologies. Then, the fundamental question becomes: Why do people create self-made identities and hyper-personalities to portray or hide themselves in social media environments? The answer to this question has certain connections and implications for behaviors of social media users. Therefore, researchers have investigated why some people find social media attractive and attend whenever possible, while others are afraid of social media and hesitate to attend. Positive and negative behaviors of social media users can be classified as braggadocian and preventative. Braggadocian behaviors are related to courageously taking advantage of social media, whereas preventative behaviors are concerned with avoidance of social media. The dominant behavioral pattern of a user depends on what one can achieve through attending or preventing social media. This paper first discusses basic elements of human behavior that drive social media such as altruism, hedonism, connectionism, homophily, multiple identities, memetics, narcissism, and tribalism. Then, it focuses on precautionary elements of human behavior such as avoidance, escape, blocking, fear, hiding, removal, and protectionism. Whether they are attentive or not, one thing is clear: People refrain or enrich their own lives in social media rather than being abused or watching others in industrial media.展开更多
New face drinkers and social media use gain popularity among adolescents in Thailand. Previous studies support relationships between exposures to marketing communications on alcohol consumption. This study proposed to...New face drinkers and social media use gain popularity among adolescents in Thailand. Previous studies support relationships between exposures to marketing communications on alcohol consumption. This study proposed to examine influence of exposure to social media and drinking intention. Participants comprised of 2,565 students grade 4th-12th from randomly selected 11 provinces across Thailand. Drinking intention was at moderate level for students who ever drink (mean = 3.66, SD = 1.06), low level among never drink (mean = 2.43, SD = .81), and overall students (mean = 2.85, SD = 1.08). The ever drink group were moderately communicated through Facebook (mean = 3.17, SD = 1.56) and Line (mean = 2.53, SD = 1.58). Regression analysis revealed weak but significant relationship of social media that explain 1.3%-5.2% of drinking intention among Thai students. Therefore, more study is needed to effectively understand and regulate the use of social media and prevention or delaying youth from using alcohol.展开更多
1,3-Propanediol,traditionally obtained from fossils,has numerous industrial applications,including use in the production of high performance polymers.The microbial production of 1,3-propanediol presents several opport...1,3-Propanediol,traditionally obtained from fossils,has numerous industrial applications,including use in the production of high performance polymers.The microbial production of 1,3-propanediol presents several opportunities,and the final purity grade determines its price and commercial viability.The development of novel separation technology could improve the economic viability of the bioproduction of 1,3-propanediol.Thus,we investigated salting-out extraction as a novel process for 1,3-propanediol recovery from fermentation broth.Initially,a screening for the best salt/solvent combination was conducted and then optimized using the response surface methodology.The solvents studied were methanol,ethanol,isopropanol and acetone,and the salts examined were K_2HPO_4,Na_2CO_3,K_2CO_3,(NH_4)_2SO_4,NaHPO_4,K_3PO_4 and C_6H_5NaO_7.The optimal extraction system consisted of 34 wt%K_3PO_4,28 wt% ethanol,and 38 wt% fermentation broth containing 23.0 g·L^(-1)1,3-propanediol,which gave the highest partition coefficient of 33 and recovery yield of 97%.The results demonstrated that salting-out extraction was a promising method for 1,3-propanediol recovery from fermentation broth.展开更多

In this paper,we study cross-layer scheduling scheme on multimedia application which considers both streaming traffic and data traffic over cognitive ad hoc networks.A cross-layer design is proposed to optimize SU'...In this paper,we study cross-layer scheduling scheme on multimedia application which considers both streaming traffic and data traffic over cognitive ad hoc networks.A cross-layer design is proposed to optimize SU's utility,which is used as an approach to balance the transmission efficiency and heterogeneous traffic in cognitive ad hoc networks.A framework is provided for utility-based optimal subcarrier assignment,power allocation strategy and corresponding modulation scheme,subject to the interference threshold to primary user(PU) and total transmit power constraint.Bayesian learning is adopted in subcarrier allocation strategy to avoid collision and alleviate the burden of information exchange on limited common control channel(CCC).In addition,the M/G/l queuing model is also introduced to analyze the expected delay of streaming traffic.Numerical results are given to demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly reduces the blocking probability and outperforms the mentioned single-channel dynamic resource scheduling by almost 8%in term of system utility.展开更多

This paper proposes a novel session setup mechanism in IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) by introducing the functional entity termed VSS(Visitor Subscriber Server) which is used to provide registration and location managem...This paper proposes a novel session setup mechanism in IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) by introducing the functional entity termed VSS(Visitor Subscriber Server) which is used to provide registration and location management.The new mechanism aims at improving session setup procedure by a betterment of location management in IMS.Through the use of two-tier subscriber information database constituted by the HSS(Home Subscriber Server) and the VSS, the new mechanism seperates the registration procedure and location management from the S-CSCF(Serving-Call'Session Control Function), and makes them be handled by the VSS.At the same time, the new mechanism updates the signaling procedure of registration and session setup.With VSS based location management, the cost of registeration and session setup procedure as well as the delay of session setup procedure become lower.The cost and delay functions of the new session setup mechanism as well as the cost function of new registeration are deduced.Then, simulations and analysis verify that the performance of this new mechanism gets the benefit in cost and time.展开更多

文摘This paper proposes a novel session setup mechanism in IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) by introducing the functional entity termed VSS(Visitor Subscriber Server) which is used to provide registration and location management.The new mechanism aims at improving session setup procedure by a betterment of location management in IMS.Through the use of two-tier subscriber information database constituted by the HSS(Home Subscriber Server) and the VSS, the new mechanism seperates the registration procedure and location management from the S-CSCF(Serving-Call'Session Control Function), and makes them be handled by the VSS.At the same time, the new mechanism updates the signaling procedure of registration and session setup.With VSS based location management, the cost of registeration and session setup procedure as well as the delay of session setup procedure become lower.The cost and delay functions of the new session setup mechanism as well as the cost function of new registeration are deduced.Then, simulations and analysis verify that the performance of this new mechanism gets the benefit in cost and time.
