Small-hydro power station is often used in remote areas beside a river,but it doesn't match electricity demand so well,especially in dry seasons. A photovoltaic (PV) system with battery is a suitable option to complement the electricity gap. In this paper,a new structure of megawatt-class PV system integrating battery at DC-bus (DC: direct current) is proposed to be used in hydro/PV hybrid power system,and 4 main designing considerations and several key equipments are discussed. In 2011,a 2 MWp PV station with the proposed structure was built up in Yushu,China. From stability analysis,the station shows a strong stability under load cut-in/off and solar irradiance's fluctuation. 展开更多

According to recent hydropower inventories, the first aim of this paper is to prove that Greece is a real "Archimedean Soft Small Hydro Development Terra Incognita". It is a country in the Era of Transition of nowadays, having an important unexploited hydropower potential of several TWh and thousands of MW. The second goal is to present the results of rediscovering the old screw pumps and the always-modern Archimedean cochlear screw ideas as a series of soft hydropower turbines with inclined axis rotors and floating spiral screw devices. By following the similarity methodology, a few small-scale models of cochlear rotors were designed, developed and tested in an Armfield hydraulic channel. The conventional and unconventional, low or zero-head screw turbines, could efficiently harness the important and unexploited Greek small potential and kinetic hydraulic energy of all the natural watercourses, the man-made open urban or rural channels and the most important tidal or sea currents, producing useful green electricity. The very promising low-head hydropower inventory of Greece, the preliminary experimental results and the research studies of cochlear projects in watercourses, hydraulic works, tidal conditions of Euripus Strait and in the mysterious "Sea River Current of Cephalonia", seems to give a good answer to the question "Quo Vadis Archimedes nowadays in Greece, in the Era of Transition?". 展开更多

The design protection of the base of the Bratsk HPP (Hydroelectric Power Station) dam from filtration coming from the water reservoir included the arrangement of several cement-grout curtains and the system of drainage holes in the 2nd and 4th columns. During operation, increased hydrostatic back pressure at the base of the dam was found, which indicated the low efficiency of the base design protection. To reduce back pressure B. E. Vedeneev Hydro Technic Institute proposed the device of “advanced” drainage holes from the cement-grout gallery near the upstream face. The implementation of the proposal in a number of sections of the dam has led to a decrease in back pressure, but affected filtration in the drainage system, increasing it significantly. The article examines filtration features of “advanced” drainage holes and their dependence on the severity of winters. The spread of the practice of “advanced” drainage in other sections of the dam requires caution and further investigations of the nature of filtration. 展开更多

But it has not acted seriously in terms of utilization. The effort began from the Rana days when they ruled the country for more than century. For energy, unfortunately, the country has at times sought thermal source rather than hydropower.For energy needs, it first depended upon foreign aid in the earlier dates. As late as in the '60s, it depended upon such assistance rather than developing its own. So much so, that it imported electrical power from neighbouring country. Later, it was developed both under foreign aid as well the multilateral assistance and loan. The electricity generation gradually became more and more costly. Only later, genuine private sectors have joined the energy market. But the terms and conditions have not always been in the national interest. There is a wide variation in cost of energy under different conditions of power development in the country, from the cheapest to the costliest. Both for generation and distribution, Nepal Electric Corporation should no longer continue its monopoly.Private sector should be promoted given more role to play for economy and operation.The paper discusses the different options available and practised in Nepal. 展开更多

An improved network flow algorithm, which includes the minimum cost network flow and the same period network flow, is proposed to solve the optimization of cascaded hydroelectric power plants in a competitive electricity market. The typical network flow is used to find the feasible flow and add the discharge water to different cascaded hydroelectric power plants at the same step. The same period network flow is used to find the optimal flow and add the power output at a different step. This new algorithm retains the advantages of the typical network flow, such as simplicity and ease of realization. The result of the case analysis indicates that the new algorithm can achieve high calculation precision and can be used to calculate the optimal operation of cascaded hydroelectric power plants. 展开更多

The power system engineer, operator, and, in general, the market participants are being faced with requirements for which they do not have adequate training and the proper software tools. In this framework, among others, a pure hydro-generation company has to operate its hydro units, throughout the operating day, trying to fulfill the market clearing schedule or a bilateral contract, and modify the program in the intra-day energy markets if necessary (or more suitable) as real-time operation is getting closer. In this scenario the objective is to maximize the hydroelectric power plant profit from selling energy in the spot market or by means of bilateral contracts. In this paper the optimal operation of a head-dependent hydroelectric power station in bilateral market-short-term hourly hydro resource scheduling for energy is obtained. 展开更多

Units and components of the powerful power equipment are exposed to the big static and dynamic load. An example of such equipments is turbines hydraulic power plant and, especially, hydroelectric pumped storage power plant. Existing techniques of control of a vibrating condition do not consider: very wide frequency range of vibrating processes, difficult character of such processes in the form of the sum multiharmonic, random and close to shock processes. Such techniques usually do not consider intervals of start-up and stop, and also work on transitive modes when loadings on a construction are maximum. Available techniques of an estimation of admissible level of vibrating influence and tests for vibration durability are not harmonized enough among themselves. Various known interpretations of communication of vibrating characteristics and durability estimations on mechanical pressure at broadband vibrating influence yield ambiguous result. On the basis of the analysis of the published information, we attempt to formulate the requirement to system of vibrating monitoring of the hydraulic turbine and power motor pumps. System should provide data acquisition and the analysis of the data on a vibrating condition taking into account accumulation of vibrating influences and long term of operation on the basis of estimation methods as low-cycle, and high-cycle (gigacycle) fatigue is made. 展开更多
