SSI/PI has applications when soil texture variability affects soil water holding capacity or when crop yield or biotic stresses (insects or diseases) are spatially variable. SSI/PI uses variable rate application technologies, mainly with center-pivots or lateral-move or linear irrigation machines, to match crop needs or soil water holding constraints. Variable rate applications are achieved by variable nozzle flow rates, pulsing nozzle flows, or multiple nozzles on separate submains. Newer center pivot and linear machines are controlled by on-board microprocessor systems that can be integrated with supervisory control and data acquisition controllers for both communication and control of the variable rate application for specific sets of nozzles or individual nozzles for management zones. Communication for center pivot or linear controllers typically uses radio telemetry, wireless interact links, or cellular telephones. Precision irrigation has limited utility without precise irrigation scheduling (temporally and spatially). Plant or soil sensors are used to initiate or complete an irrigation event. Automated weather stations provide site information for determining the irrigation requirement using crop models or simpler reference evapotranspiration (ET), data to be used with crop coefficients. Remote sensing is being used to measure crop water status or crop development from spectral reflectance. Near-surface remote sensing with sensors mounted on moving irrigation systems provide critical spatial integration from point weather networks and feedback on crop ET and irrigation controls in advanced automated systems for SSI/PI.展开更多

The quantities of interest in this region are the distribution of temperature, density and pressure, velocity and gas mass flow along the electric arc axis, as well as the distribution of electric stress between contacts Calculation of steady SF_6 gas flow through the nozzle of a 420 kV circuit breaker at the current zero instant, for different arcing durations, was carried out using a commercial CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation tool. The calculation results were used to get insight into improvement possibilities of the SF_6 gas flow model used in the software for computer simulation of HV (high-voltage) circuit breakers. Electric field calculation results were performed for the same 420 kV circuit breaker, in order to estimate the breakdown voltage at the current zero instant.展开更多

The simulation and experiment are done to match the design of nozzle light. Nozzle light provides firefighters a synergistic function to spray the water and illuminate the fire field at the same time without requiring any extra hand to handle the light. It indeed increases both the efficiency of putting off a fire and the safety of firefighters. The most innovative benefit is that neither heavy battery nor utility wires are needed to get the lighting.展开更多

The silver ink pendant experiences swelling, pulsation, and ejection under an applied pulse voltage of 20 Hz. The droplet deposi- tion frequency is equal to the applied voltage frequency so that the EHDP can deposit silver ink on demand. A low applied voltage favors uniform and non-scattering silver patterns while a high applied voltage results in ink scattering. Discrete drop- lets with 45-55 gm in diameter and continuous tracks with 60 gm in width are generated by using a ll0-i.tm-cailber nozzle. The feature size of deposited patterns is about half of the nozzle caliber, and a finer resolution can be achieved with the intro- duction of smaller nozzle calibers. Furthermore, the appropriate curing condition is investigated for sufficient combustion of ink solvent. The minimum resistivity of 3.3 gf~ cm is demonstrated for a continuous track cured at 200~C for 10 min. Eventu- ally, several passive electrical components, such as coated resistors, interdigitated capacitors (6 pF), and spiral inductors (0.6 gH), are successfully fabricated.展开更多

In this paper, a high speed camera was used to investigate the ignition kernel development, ignition probability and flame propagation along the axis of hydrogen jets, which leaked from a 3-ram-internal-diameter nozzle and were ignited by an electric spark. Experimental results indicate that for successful ignition events, the ignition delay time increases with an increase of the distance between the nozzle and the electrode. Ignitable zone of the hydrogen jets is underestimated if using the predicted hydrogen concentration along the jets centerline. The average rate of downstream flame decreases but that of the upstream flame increases with the electrode going far from the nozzle.展开更多
