A numerical technique of the target-region locating (TRL) solver in conjunction with the wave-front method is presented for the application of the finite element method (FEM) for 3-D electromagnetic computation. First, the principle of TRL technique is described. Then, the availability of TRL solver for nonlinear application is particularly discussed demonstrating that this solver can be easily used while still remaining great efficiency. The implementation on how to apply this technique in FEM based on magnetic vector potential (MVP) is also introduced. Finally, a numerical example of 3-D magnetostatic modeling using the TRL solver and FEMLAB is given. It shows that a huge computer resource can be saved by employing the new solver. 展开更多

Based on the solution to the 2D Poisson's equation, the model gives the influence on the surface electrical field of the drain bias and structure parameters such as the doping concentration,the depth and the position of the p-top region, the thickness and the doping concentration of the drift region, and the substrate doping concentration. The dependence of breakdown voltage on the length and doping concentration of the drift region is also calculated. Further more,an effective way to gain the optimum high-voltage is also proposed. All analytical results are verified by simulation results obtained by MEDICI and previous experimental data,showing the validity of the model presented here. 展开更多

In order to study the thermoelectric efficiency of microwave heating and reproduction of asphalt pavements and the uniformity of reproduction temperature distribution, a waveguide excitation cavity is designed and applied to the structural design of a microwave heater. The structural sizes of the incentive cavities are determined based on the waveguide transmission line theory. Using IE3D software, electromagnetic simulations are respectively carried out in four different situations, including the distances between the magnetron probes (antennas) and a short-circuit board, different horn electric lengths and aperture sizes, different dielectric properties of the asphalt mixture, and the distances between the asphalt surface and the mouth cavity. The results show that, when the distance between the magnetron probe and the short-circuit board is 32.5 ram, it is the best installation site; reduction of aerial length is the main factor in improving the heating uniformity. When the aggregate is limestone, the best heating effect can be produced. Maximum radiation efficiency can be realized by adjusting the space between the heater radiation port and the asphalt pavement. The experimental results of asphalt mixture heating in four different situations have a substantial agreement with the simulation results, which confirms that the developed microwave heater can achieve better impedance matching, thus improving the quality and efficiency of heating regeneration. 展开更多

The resistance arrangements of the flexes connecting with the cathode bus bar in aluminum reduction cells were generalized as three modes. In each mode the universal method to select proper resistivity of the flexes was induced respectively to insure that the current in local group of flexes was equal. Furthermore, a 350 kA aluminum reduction cell based electric field model was developed by finite element method to evaluate the effect of the method. Suggestions on selection of three modes were also put forward. The results show that the methods of resistance optimization can reduce the current variation about 180 A compared with that in original case. 展开更多

A finite element algorithm combined with divergence condition was presented for computing three-dimensional(3D) magnetotelluric forward modeling. The finite element equation of three-dimensional magnetotelluric forward modeling was derived from Maxwell's equations using general variation principle. The divergence condition was added forcedly to the electric field boundary value problem, which made the solution correct. The system of equation of the finite element algorithm was a large sparse, banded, symmetric, ill-conditioned, non-Hermitian complex matrix equation, which can be solved using the Bi-CGSTAB method. In order to prove correctness of the three-dimensional magnetotelluric forward algorithm, the computed results and analytic results of one-dimensional geo-electrical model were compared. In addition, the three-dimensional magnetotelluric forward algorithm is given a further evaluation by computing COMMEMI model. The forward modeling results show that the algorithm is very efficient, and it has a lot of advantages, such as the high precision, the canonical process of solving problem, meeting the internal boundary condition automatically and adapting to all kinds of distribution of multi-substances. 展开更多

It's necessary to study the electromagnetic generated by MCSEM. The propagation of the electromagnetic fields from a controlled source in the marine environment was studied with virtual interface method combined with discrete complex image method. Transmitter of finite length current source is approximated by dipole (HED) . A three-layered model is accepted,with sea water as intermediate conductive layer under air and a relatively high resistive seabed as basement,possibly containing a hydrogen layer of higher resistivity. The electromagnetic fields in whole space thus computed show that: (1) the spatial distribution of field component depends on its type; (2) inline Ex component is more sensitive to reservoir layer than that in broadside; (3) The airwave affects marine electromagnetic (MEM) exploration when sea water is relatively shallow; in the case of deep water MEM exploration,the airwave influence could be neglected; and (4) an appropriate frequency should be selected in order to balance the signal strength and electromagnetic induction effect. 展开更多

The optimal design method for an open Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) superconducting magnet with an active shielding configuration is proposed. Firstly, three pairs of current rings are employed as seed coils. By optimizing the homogeneity of Diameter Sphere Voltnne (DSV), the positions and currents of the seed coils will be obtained. Secondly, according to the positions and currents of the seed coils, the current density of superconducting wires is determined, and then the original sections for the coils can be achieved. An optimization for the homogeneity based on the constrained nonlincar optimization method is employed to determine the coils with good homogeneity. Thirdly, the magnetic field generated by previous coils is set as the background field, then add two coils with reverse current, and optimize the stray field line of 5 Gauss in a certain scope. Finally, a further optimization for the homogeneity is used to get Final coils. This method can also be used in the design of other axisynmaetfic superconducting MRI magnets. 展开更多

Japan's first open sea offshore wind farm, Kamisu offshore windfarm Phase l, was stricken by an earthquake of intensity 6 on the Japanese seismic scale and a five-meter-high tsunami during the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11,2011. The wind farm resumed operation on March 14 after checks revealed no damage to the system, even though the wind farm was temporarily forced to stop due to the grid failure caused by the earthquake. Wind turbines require a precise seismic design especially in an earthquake-prone country such as Japan. Wind power Kamisu Phase 2 was built one year after the earthquake based on the experience of Kamisu Phase 1. This paper presents the seismic design of offshore wind turbines and the situation during the earthquake and tsunami. 展开更多

Where available, we compare our results with previously published works. One function for approximating pulse quantities in high voltage technique is presented in this paper. The function derivative, its integral, as well as its Laplace and Fourier transform are obtained analytically. Integral transformations of the pulse function are needed in frequency domain calculations of lightning induced effects in the case of a lossy ground. The pulse function having adequately chosen parameters is applied in lightning discharge modeling for lightning electromagnetic field calculation, and the results are in agreement with the results from literature. The choice of function parameters is based on their influence on the pulse waveshape which is presented in the paper. Numerical results for the Fourier transform are presented for different usually used pulse functions. The advantages of this function are simple choice of its parameters according to the desired waveshape characteristics and analytical solutions useful in lightning discharge modeling, electromagnetic field computation and induced effects calculations. 展开更多

Various regulations, aimed at the protection of human beings and electrical equipment against possible adverse effects resulting from exposure to electromagnetic fields, have been issued in many countries. Most of them are based on safety guidelines published by international expert groups. In this paper, electric and magnetic fields are calculated in the vicinity of 25 kV traction line supplying railway traction systems. Calculation results are compared to exposure limits specified by safety guidelines and regulations. Possible countermeasures for reduction of electromagnetic fields are proposed. Also, this paper presents a method for calculation of the induced voltages to an underground gas pipeline from a neighbouring 25 kV electric traction overhead line in case of short circuit. Calculations are performed with EMTP-ATP software. Possible countermeasures for reduction of induced voltages are proposed. 展开更多

The quantities of interest in this region are the distribution of temperature, density and pressure, velocity and gas mass flow along the electric arc axis, as well as the distribution of electric stress between contacts Calculation of steady SF_6 gas flow through the nozzle of a 420 kV circuit breaker at the current zero instant, for different arcing durations, was carried out using a commercial CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulation tool. The calculation results were used to get insight into improvement possibilities of the SF_6 gas flow model used in the software for computer simulation of HV (high-voltage) circuit breakers. Electric field calculation results were performed for the same 420 kV circuit breaker, in order to estimate the breakdown voltage at the current zero instant. 展开更多

Till now there is no academic consensus on which electricity market design provides the least distorting investment incentives. Alternative approaches that have been adopted around the world for ensuring the appropriate level of investment in electric generation capacity are discussed, and much attention is devoted on the evaluation of capacity payment systems. The finding is that on one hand, capacity payment systems have good effect on reducing spot market price volatility and increasing the volume of generating capacity at the costs of relatively high total electricity prices; on the other hand, however, they are not robust against either the abuse of market power in the energy market or being manipulated. 展开更多

A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is carried out to describe the wire-plate electrostatic precipitator (ESP) in high temperature conditions, aiming to study the effects of high temperature on the electro- hydrodynamic (EHD) characteristics. In the model, the complex interactions at high temperatures between the electric field, fluid dynamics and the particulate flow are taken into account. We apply different numerical methods for different fields, including an electric field model, Euler-Lagrange particle-laden flows model, and particle charging model. The effects of high temperature on ionic wind, EHD characteristics and collection effi- ciency are investigated. The numerical results show high temperature causes more significant effects of the ionic wind on the gas secondary flow. High viscosity of gas at high temperature makes particles follow the gas flow pattern more closely. High temperature reduces the surface electric strength, so that the mean electric strength weakens the space charging. On the contrary, there is an increase in the diffusion charging at high tem- perature compared with at low temperature. High temperature increases the ratio of mean drag force over mean electrostatic force actin~ on the ~atticles which mav contribute to a decline of collection efficiencv. 展开更多
