The tribological behaviors of carbon block sliding against copper ring with and without electric current applied were investigated by using an advanced multifunctional friction and wear tester, and the electric-arc be...The tribological behaviors of carbon block sliding against copper ring with and without electric current applied were investigated by using an advanced multifunctional friction and wear tester, and the electric-arc behaviors were analyzed in detail. The results show that the normal load is one of the main controlling factors for generation of electric arc during friction process with electric current applied. The strength of electric arc is enhanced with the decrease of normal loads and the increase of electric currents. The unstable friction process and the fluctuated dynamic friction coefficients are strongly dependent upon the electric arc. The wear volumes and the wear mechanism of carbon brush were affected by the electric arc obviously. As no electric arc occurs, no clear discrepancy of the wear volumes of the carbon samples with and without electric current applied could be detected. While the wear mechanisms are mainly mechanical wear. However, under the condition of the electric arc appearance, the wear volume of carbon with electric current applied increases much more rapidly than that without electric current applied and also increases obviously with the increase of electric current strengths and the decrease of normal loads. The wear mechanisms of carbon block are mainly electric arc ablation accompanying with adhesive wear and material transferring.展开更多

The influences of oxides on erosion, corrosion and wear behavior for high velocity arc sprayed Fe-Al/Cr3C2 coatings were studied. The results show that HVAS-sprayed Fe-Al/Cr3C2 coatings have good erosion, heat corrosion and wear resistance. The erosion resistance improves with the increase of the temperature. On one hand, the ferrous oxides are incompact, so they peel off the surface of the coatings easily during the high temperature erosion. On the other hand, compact Al2O3 films on the surface can protect the coatings.展开更多
CrN coatings were deposited using cathodic arc evaporation in stationary system on the substrate surface faced to the plasma source and on the back surface.The effect of nitrogen pressure on the structure and phase co...CrN coatings were deposited using cathodic arc evaporation in stationary system on the substrate surface faced to the plasma source and on the back surface.The effect of nitrogen pressure on the structure and phase composition,mechanical and tribological properties of the coatings was investigated.The coating morphology and structure were characterized using SEM and contact profilometry and X-ray diffractometry,respectively.Mechanical properties were studied by nanoindentation.The friction and wear properties of the coatings were investigated by ball-on-disk tribometer.An increase in nitrogen pressure during coating deposition results in phase transformation according to the relation Cr2N→Cr2N+CrN→CrN.The roughness of the coatings deposited on the front side of the substrate is higher than that on the back side,mainly due to larger number of macroparticles.The hardness and elastic modulus are also higher on the front side of the substrate.The adhesion and wear rate of the coatings have an inverse relationship.展开更多
