Tangents on TV: The Tangential Relationship of Narrative and Educational Content in Children's Television Through the Capacity Model

Previous studies have shown that children learn from educational television; however, these studies have not explored how closely the educational content of the program is integrated to the narrative. The following study uses a systematic content analysis of 100 top-rated U.S. children's television programs to explore the tangential relationship (i.e., distance) of narrative and educational content through the lens of the capacity model--which is built upon three basic components: narrative content, educational content, and the distance between them. Programs were analyzed for distance by examining lesson clarity and integration, show type, target audience age, and station type. One-way ANOVAs indicates significant differences between the means of these variables. Programs targeting younger children presented educational content that was closely integrated into the plotline of the program and helped further the story. However, as the target audience aged, the educational content became more tangential to the narrative content and was less tied to the plotline of the program. 展开更多

In recent years, some teachers have introdnced it into university teaching. Characteristics and demands of fine arts education internship ask for application of the form of electronic portfolio internship for teaching evaluation, enabling instructors to make internship preparation for students' internship period. Teaching experience accumulation and reflection could bring a more systematic and comprehensive evaluation of teaching and internship can enhance internship students' awareness of the importance of internship, and make good sorting in internship effectively. Self-reflection and conclusion are conducive to exchange of internship experience, promotion of learning ability and cultivation of a good learning attitude of life-long learning. In internship evaluation, teachers can determine evaluation objectives by applying the electronic portfolio to help students select portfolio of internship, gather the information needed in teaching, make teaching recommendations, solve practical teaching problems, and finally make a multivariate evaluation of internship students, to really make art education internship contribute to students. 展开更多

The core of deepening medical teaching reform is to break the traditional teaching model (i.e. giving a lecture), and create a better classroom teaching situation by making full use of the modern teaching methods. In B-learning, the effective combination of the traditional teaching method' s advantages with the E-learning in a pure technical environment is advocated. In the task-driven teaching, a teaching design is made by students in a real or simulated real environment. All of them were not able to speak Japanese, even the greetings; during lunch time they also had to eat some types of food they had never had before. Certainly, it was a daily battle against the unknown as they interfaced between two very different cultures. This support tutoring program was implemented in a Japanese public school in Taiwa Town, Miyagi Prefecture, and it aimed to create an adequate environment that could provide a teaching-learning process in the cognitive, emotional, and social aspects to prepare the students to live in Japan, as well as to prepare them for their return to Brazil in the future. 展开更多
