This paper proposes a new deadbeat controller based on compensation for unbalanced source voltage and current. With the proposed scheme, the second harmonics of the output current are eliminated and low-order harmonics of the source current are reduced effectively. Simulation and experimental results con- firmed the feasibility of the proposed method.展开更多

This controller is tuned to simultaneously shift the undamped electromeehanical modes to a prescribed zone in the s-plane. The problem of robust UPFC based damping controller is formulated as an optimization problem according to the eigenvalue-based multi-objective function comprising the damping factor, and the damping ratio of the undamped electromechanical modes to be solved using gravitational search algorithm (GSA) that has a strong ability to find the most optimistic results. The different loading conditions are simulated on a SMIB system and the rotor speed deviation, internal voltage deviation, DC voltage deviation and electrical power deviation responses are studied with the effect of this flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) controller. The results reveal that the tuned GSA based UPFC controller using the proposed multi-objective function has an excellent capability in damping power system with low frequency oscillations and greatly enhances the dynamic stability of the power systems.展开更多

It is well known that appropriate coupling of inputs-outputs signals in the multivariable HVDC-HVAC system can improve the performance of designed supplemetary controller. In this work, different analysis techniques are used to measure controllability and observability of electromechanical oscillation mode. Also inputs–outputs interactions are considered and suggestions are drawn to select the best signal pair through the system inputs-outputs. In addition, a supplementary online adaptive controller for nonlinear HVDC to damp low frequency oscillations in a weakly connected system is proposed. The results obtained using MATLAB software show that the best output-input for damping controller design is rotor speed deviation as out put and phase angle of rectifier as in put. Also response of system equipped with adaptive damping controller based on HVDC system has appropriate performance when it is faced with faults and disturbance.展开更多

If both devices operate at the same bus, the stabilization control scheme can be carried out continuously and with flexibility. As a result, the fault currents are limited, and the generator disturbances and the turbine shaft torsional oscillations are converged quickly. In this paper, the effectiveness of the combination of both devices has been demonstrated by considering 3LG (three-lines-to-ground) fault in a two-machine infinite bus system. Also, temperature rise effect of both devices with various resistance values and weights has been demonstrated. Simulation results indicate a significant power system stability enhancement and damping turbine shaft torsional oscillations as well as with allowable temperature rise.展开更多

It is shown in the paper that the HVDC converter automatically provides the supreme voltage and frequency stabilizing function when a critical situation is detected, no matter the disturbances appeared in sending end or receiving end AC networks. This supreme voltage and frequency stabilizing function makes it possible to avoid the blackout even if all the generators are tripped under an extra-ordinary worst contingency. By plots of recorded transients, the paper will show how the eventual blackouts are avoided.展开更多

Besides the pinch effect originating from surface tension, the Lorentz force, created by the axial current density and the corresponding azimuthal magnetic field, causes an electromagnetic pinch effect. This effect has drawn attention in electrical engineering, because it can be used in the construction of liquid metal current limit- ers with self-healing properties. In this paper a simple model is derived using the shallow water approximation: the equations describing the full system are reduced to two one-dimensional evolution equations for the axial velocity and the radius of the jet. A stability analysis for this reduced system is carried out yielding critical current density and the growth rate for the instability. To investigate the nonlinear behaviour of the pinch instability for finite perturbations simulations, the shallow water model are performed.展开更多
