In order to improve the efficiency of a geothermal power plant, oil wells in the high water cut stage were used as geothermal wells, thereby improving the recovery ratio and economic benefit. A new function that reflects both the technical and economic performances was put forward and used as the objective function. An organic Rankine cycle (ORC) was analyzed through the energetic and exergetic analyses, and the reasons for low efficiency were pinpointed. Results indicate that geothermal water directly transferring heat to the working fluid reduces energy dissipation and increases cycle efficiencies. The net power output with an internal heat exchanger (IHE) is averagely 5.3% higher than that without an IHE. R601a and R601 can be used to replace R123 for geothermal water below 110℃. Moreover, the modified ORC dramatically outperforms the actual one. 展开更多

The ash deposition increases capital expenditure, energy input and maintenance costs. An analog experiment for monitoring ash deposition was performed from the analogous objective of a 410 t/h boiler economizer to verify the rationality and reliability of the ash-deposition-monitoring model presented in order to increase the security and economy in economizer running. The analog experiment platform is a tube-shell exchanger that conforms well to the conditions of a self-modeling area. The analog flue gas in the shell side is the heated air mixed with ash, and in the tube side the fluid is water heated by the flue gas. The fluid state in the water side and the flue gas side follows the second self-modeling area. A 4-factor-3-level orthogonal table was used to schedule 9 operation conditions of orthogonal experiment, with the 4 factors being heat power, flue gas velocity, ashes grain diameter and adding ashes quantity while the three levels are different values due to different position classes in every factor. The ash deposition thermal resistances is calculated by the model with the measure parameters of temperature and pressure drop. It shows that the values of the ash deposition thermal resistances gradually increase up to a stable state. And the experimental results are reliable by F testing method at α= 0.001. Therefore, the model can be applied in online monitoring of ash deposition in a boiler economizers in power plants and provides scientific decision on ash deposition prediction and sootblowing. 展开更多

A cogeneration plant can run at off-design due to change of load demand or ambient conditions. The cogeneration considered for this study is gas turbine based engine consists of variable stator vanes (VSVs) compressor that are re-staggered for loads greater than 50% to maintain the gas turbine exhaust gas temperature at the set value. In order to evaluate the exergetic performance of the cogeneration, exergy model of each cogeneration component is formulated. A 4.2 MW gas turbine based cogeneration plant is analysed for a wide range of part load operations including the effect of VSVs modulation. For loads less than 50%, the major exergy destruction contributors are the combustor and the loss with the stack gas. At full load, the exergy destructions in the combustor, turbine, heat recovery, compressor and the exergy loss with stack gas are 63.7, 14.1, 11.5, 5.7, and 4.9%, respectively. The corresponding first and second law cogeneration efficiencies are 78.5 and 45%, respectively. For comparison purpose both the first and second law efticiencies of each component are represented together. This analysis would help to identify the equipment where the potential for performance improvement is high, and trends which may aid in the design of future plants. 展开更多

Between the alternative sources available for the electricity production, still lacks reliability for the production in base units. For the electricity production from 500 MW to 1,000 MW or more, the coal-fired thermal and nuclear power plants with uranium have proved competitive and with a high level of reliability and maturation, besides presenting the fuel supply security. This paper presents an analysis of technical feasibility for the choice of the best technology for generating electricity on a large scale, based on coal-fired thermal or nuclear power plant using uranium. This paper takes in account the availability of fuel sources, investments costs, thermal power generation systems, pollutants emission and mitigation technologies, global efficiency, fuel consumption, costs of electricity, construction time and an average lifespan of the installation. Thus the analysis allows the most rational choice of technology for the production of electricity with lower electricity costs and lower COz emissions. 展开更多

Increase in demand of electrical power for different purposes in Iraq leads increase towards to power plant system such as thermal power plant. Any thermal power plant requires water for processing, cooling, oilfields, boiler feed and other miscellaneous uses including domestic requirements. The main parameter to measure the efficiency of thermal power plant is the availability of water and technology employed. Therefore, the thermal power plants like A1-Anbar thermal power station is built on the Euphrates River bank in the city of Ramadi in the middle part of Iraq. Depending on the field measurements and pervious measurements, the computation of river water level for different frequency periods was achieved to determine the inundation area of the plant and the required height of power plant intakes. The problems of intake operation include low flow rate of the river at intake that resulting low water level (minimum flow rate was recorded 107 m^3/s with water level 47.8 m), and annual sediments at intake that may be caused operation off. Therefore, any design for the intake or operation must consider the above problems. The study referred to the discharge for full operation is about 300 m^3/s and water level is 51.3 m to satisfy these requirements. The study suggested two solutions for this problem, first by using the groins and the second by building two weirs. 展开更多

A steam power plant can work as a dual purpose plant for simultaneous production of steam and elec-trical power. In this paper we seek the optimum integration of a steam power plant as a source and a site utility sys-tem as a sink of steam and power. Estimation for the cogeneration potential prior to the design of a central utility system for site utility systems is vital to the targets for site fuel demand as well as heat and power production. In this regard, a new cogeneration targeting procedure is proposed for integration of a steam power plant and a site utility consisting of a process plant. The new methodology seeks the optimal integration based on a new cogenera-tion targeting scheme. In addition, a modified site utility grand composite curve(SUGCC) diagram is proposed and compared to the original SUGCC. A gas fired steam power plant and a process site utility is considered in a case study. The applicability of the developed procedure is tested against other design methods(STAR? and Thermoflex software) through a case study. The proposed method gives comparable results, and the targeting method is used for optimal integration of steam levels. Identifying optimal conditions of steam levels for integration is important in the design of utility systems, as the selection of steam levels in a steam power plant and site utility for integration greatly influences the potential for cogeneration and energy recovery. The integration of steam levels of the steam power plant and the site utility system in the case study demonstrates the usefulness of the method for reducing the overall energy consumption for the site. 展开更多
