The results show that arc-ultrasound could refine the new reinforced composites such as TiC, TiN significantly, and improve their distribution greatly. And new phase A13Ti becomes finer and less. The test results of mechanical properties indicate that the maximum tensile strength of welded joints is gained when the excitation frequency is 50 kHz, and the maximum is 225 MPa, raising by about 7% comoared with conventional nlasma arc welding (PAW) (20q MPa).展开更多

The results show that the temperature distribution in the joints is uneven. Mg alloy welds present a fine equiaxed grain structure. There exists a transition layer consisting mainly of AlFe, AlFe3 and Mg(Fe, Al)2O4 phases at Mg/steel interface, and it is the weakest link in Mg?steel joints. The welding heat input and weld Al content have the significant effect on the joint strength. The joint strength increases with increasing the heat input from 1680 J/cm to 2093 J/cm, due to promoting Mg/steel interface reaction. When weld Al content is increased to 6.20%, the joint strength reaches 192 MPa, 80% of Mg alloy base metal strength. It is favorable to select the suitable welding heat input and weld Al content for improving joint strength.展开更多

The improved algorithm simplified the calculating process greatly because of the reduction of calculation. The orthogonal design was adopted in this experiment. Every sample had strong representation, which could reduce the experimental time and obtain the overall test data. Combined with the formation problem of gas metal arc weld with big current, the auxiliary analysis technique of PLSR was discussed and the regression equation of form factors (i.e. surface width, weld penetration and weld reinforcement) to process parameters(i.e. wire feed rate, wire extension, welding speed, gas flow, welding voltage and welding current)was given. The correlativity structure among variables was analyzed and there was certain correlation between independent variables matrix X and dependent variables matrix Y. The regression analysis shows that the welding speed mainly influences the weld formation while the variation of gas flow in certain range has little influence on formation of weld. The fitting plot of regression accuracy is given. The fitting quality of regression equation is basically satisfactory.展开更多

The effects of gas tungsten arc welding process variables, such as the volume fraction of nitrogen in shielding gas, arc holding time and arc current on the nitrogen content in the welding metal were also evaluated. The results show that the volume fraction of nitrogen in gas mixture plays a major role in controlling the nitrogen content in the welding metal. It seems that there exhibits a maximum nitrogen content (depending) on the arc current and arc holding time. The optimum volume fraction of nitrogen in shielding gas is 4% or so. The role of gas tungsten arc welding processing parameters in controlling the transfer of nitrogen is further (confirmed) by the experimental results of gas tungsten arc welding process with feeding metal.展开更多

The welding process was conducted in a single pass with a heat input of ~1.5 kJ/mm. The microstructural observations of the welds were correlated with the effect of EMILI on the local mechanical properties and the corrosion resistance in natural seawater by means of microhardness measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, respectively. Microstructural characterization of the welds revealed a grain refinement in the weld metal due to the electromagnetic stirring induced by EMILI of 3 mT during welding. In addition, observations in the scanning electron microscope showed that the precipitation of Cu-rich phases and segregation of eutectics were reduced in the heat affected zone (HAZ) also as an effect of EMILI. The high corrosion dissolution of the 7075-T651 welds in natural seawater and the extent of overaging in the HAZ were reduced when welding with EMILI of 3 mT. Thus, EMILI along with the MIEA technique may lead to welded joints with better microstructural characteristics, improved mechanical properties in the HAZ and reduced electrochemical activity.展开更多

The boiling temperature of coated zinc is lower than the melting temperature of the base metal, which is steel. In the autogenous laser welding, the zinc vapor generates from the lapped surfaces expels the molten pool and the expulsion causes numerous weld defects, such as spatters and blow holes on the weld surface and porosity inside the welds. The laser-arc hybrid welding was suggested as an alternative method for the laser lap welding because the arc can preheat or post-beat the weldment according to the arrangement of the laser beam and the arc. CO2 laser-micro plasma hybrid welding was applied to the lap welding of zinc-coated steel with zero-gap. The relationships among the weld quality and process parameters of the laser-arc arrangement, and the laser-arc interspacing distance and arc current were investigated using a full-factorial experimental design. The effect of laser-arc arrangement is dominant because the leading plasma arc partially melts the upper steel sheets and vaporizes or oxidizes the coated zinc on the lapped surfaces. Compared with the result from the laser-TIG hybrid welding, the heat input from arc can be reduced by 40%.展开更多
