The upper mixed layer (UML) depth obtained from temperature is very close to that from density:the maximum is about 15m. This indicates that temperature is a good indicator of mixed layer during measurements. When the...The upper mixed layer (UML) depth obtained from temperature is very close to that from density:the maximum is about 15m. This indicates that temperature is a good indicator of mixed layer during measurements. When the surface heat flux is balanced by a cross-shore heat flux, the surface mixed layer depth obtained from the WM model (Weatherly and Martin, 1978),hPRT, is roughly the same as observed. The mixed layer depth calculated from the PWP model (Price, Weller and Pinkel, 1986) is close to the depth obtained from thermistor chain temperature data. The results show that both the WM model and PWP model can provide a good estimate of stratification in the study area during the cruise. The value of log( h/u3) is about 9.5 in the study area, which shows that the study area is strongly stratified in summer. Observations on the northern Portugal shelf reveal high variability in stability, giving rise to semi-diurnal, semi-monthly and diurnal oscillations, and long term variations. The fortnightly oscillations are highlighted by post-springs and post-neaps. The stirring of spring tide is reinforced by strong wind mixing which brings about complete vertical homogeneity everywhere. The semi-diurnal periodic stratification is very pronounced because the major axis of the tidal ellipse is orientated acrossshore, even though the tidal current is weak in this area, the maximum stratification is observed around the middle of ebb, and, the water at this time is much warmer. The diurnal oscillation results from the upper ocean response to heating and wind mixing when solar heating warms and stabilizes the upper ocean. There is a clear relationship between upper mixed layer depth and wind-stress magnitude at subtidal frequencies. Stronger winds result in a deeper surface mixed layer. Typically, the surface mixed layer depth lags the wind stress by 6 -12 h.展开更多

In this work, the production technology process and control difficulties of submerged arc furnace were simply introduced, the necessity of establishing a neural adaptive PSD dispersive decoupling controller was discussed, the design method and the implementation steps of the controller are expounded in detail, and the block diagram of the controlled system is presented. By comparison with experimental results of the conventional PID controller and the adaptive PSD controller, the decoupling ability, adaptive ability, self-learning ability and robustness of the neural adaptive PSD dispersive decoupling controller have been testified effectively. The controller is applicable to the three-phase electrode adjusting system of submerged arc furnace, and it will play an important role for achieving the power balance of three-phrase electrodes, saving energy and reducing consumption in the process of smelting.展开更多

The m...This paper proposes a parameter determination method of distribution voltage regulators load ratio control transformers (LRT) and step voltage regulators (SVR) considering the tap change and voltage profile. The method takes two procedures in order to simplify the optimization problem and to reduce calculation time. One is to simultaneously determine the control parameters of LRT and SVR minimizing voltage violations and voltage variations. The algorithm is based on particle swarm optimization (PSO), which is one of non-linear optimization methods by using a concept of swarm intelligence. Another is to determine the dead-band width of LRT and SVR on the basis of bi-evaluation of tap change and voltage margin. The concept of a Pareto optimal solution is used for the decision of the best dead-band width. As the results of numerical simulations using distribution network model, the validity of the proposed method has been affirmed.展开更多

The method can calculate voltage and current of distribution systems, in which distributed generators are introduced. The calculation time of the proposed method is about 40 times faster than that of the Newton-Raphson method. Moreover, an introduction effect evaluation tool for distributed generators using the proposed three phase unbalanced load flow calculation is presented. It provides various functions such as a power system network diagram creation function and a voltage profile chart display function. Therefore, the introduction effect evaluation of distributed generators in distribution systems can be evaluated quite easily.展开更多

A robust adaptive neural network controller (RANNC) for electrode regulator system was proposed. Artificial neural networks were established to learn the system dynamics. The nonlinear control law was derived directly based on an input-output approximating method via the Taylor expansion, which avoids complex control development and intensive computation. The stability of the closed-loop system was established by the Lyapunov method. The current fluctuation relative percentage is less than ±8% and heating rate is up to 6.32 ℃/min when the proposed controller is used. The experiment results show that the proposed control scheme is better than inverse neural network controller (INNC) and PID controller (PIDC).展开更多
To reduce output voltage noise and improve dynamic response performance,this study designed a buck converter on the basis of secondary filters and adaptive voltage positioning(AVP).A hybrid control method was proposed...To reduce output voltage noise and improve dynamic response performance,this study designed a buck converter on the basis of secondary filters and adaptive voltage positioning(AVP).A hybrid control method was proposed for the compensation of the secondary filter.The introduction of a high-frequency feedback path,in addition to the traditional feedback path,effectively improved the influence of the secondary filter on the loop stability and direct current regulation performance.A small-signal model of the buck converter based on the proposed control method was derived,and the stability and selection of control parameters were analyzed.AVP is realized using an easy-to-implement and low-cost control method that was proposed to improve dynamic response performance by changing the low-frequency gain of the control loop and load regulation of the output voltage.The experimental results of the buck converter showed that the proposed method effectively reduced the output voltage noise by 50%and improved the dynamic response capability to meet the target requirements of mainstream electronic systems.展开更多
The purpose of this paper is to show a laboratory scale implementation of a Thyristor Switched Capacitors (TSC) as an alternative for voltage regulation during a direct on line three-phase induction motor starting o...The purpose of this paper is to show a laboratory scale implementation of a Thyristor Switched Capacitors (TSC) as an alternative for voltage regulation during a direct on line three-phase induction motor starting on an emulated weak transmission line. Thyristor switched capacitor bank was chosen because it is a well known topology, considering the very nature of the direct starting induction motors, which represents a highly inductive load, the use of switched reactors becomes unnecessary. Such fact minimizes the introduction of harmonics components, and also reduces the cost of the implementation. The binary disposition of the banks allows a variable Var compensation with sixteen steps, in this case. The solution makes use of low cost devices combined with sliding window voltage and current measurement algorithm and a PI control with dead band control for achieve the shown experimental results, where the system is able to manage a typically 20% voltage drop, reducing it to less than 4%. The schematic of the developed circuit, the control technique and a quite simple method to calculate the binary weight capacitors banks are also presented.展开更多
