Methods Sixty obese patients with abnormal lipids and serum leptin were randomly divided into a dilatational wave group and a continuous wave group via random number table, with 30 cases in each group. They were divided by TCM differentiation into three types: stomachintestine excessive heat, weakness of the spleen-stomach and spleen-kidney yang deficiency, treated by electroacupuncture on Tianshu (天枢 ST 25), Daheng (大横 SP 15), Zusanli (足三里ST 36), Shangjuxu (上巨虚 ST 37), Fanglong (丰隆 ST 40), Yinlingquan (阴陵泉 SP 9), Quchi (曲池 LI 11), Zhigou (支沟 TE 6) and Hegu (合谷 LI 4) along with thunder-fire moxibustion. The frequency of electro-acupuncture in the dilatational wave group and the continuous wave group was 2 Hz/100 Hz and 2 Hz, respectively. Patients in the two groups were treated once a day, six times a week. The treatment lasted for 4 weeks with 3-month follow-up. Body mass and body fat percentage before and after the treatment, as well as during the follow-up, were compared. The effectiveness rates in the two groups were compared, and the efficacy statistics of patients with different TCM patterns in the dilatational wave group were also analyzed. Lipid levels of the patients in two groups before and after the treatment were measured with an automatic biochemical analyzer, and serum leptin levels were detected with flow cytometry system. Results After the treatment, the patients' blood lipids, serum leptin levels, body mass and body fat percentage were effectively reduced in the two groups; three months' follow-up witnessed continuous decline of obesity indicators (P〈0.01 or P〈0.05), and patients in the dilatat-ional wave group improved more significantly than those in continuous wave group (P〈0.05 or P〈0.01). The efficacy in the dilatational wave group was superior to that in the continuous wave group (P〈0.01). The best efficacy could be found among patients with weakness of the spleen and the stomach in the dilatational wave group. Conclusion Efficacy of treating obese patients with abnormity of lipids and serum leptin by electro-acupuncture combined with thunder-fire moxibustion in the dilatational wave group was significantly better than that of the continuous wave group, and efficacy for obese patients with weakness of the spleen and the stomach was superior to that of those with stomach-intestine excessive heat and spleen-kidney yang deficiency.展开更多

Methods Sixty cases of post-stroke depression ranged from mild to middle degree were randomly divided into comprehensive therapy group and medication group, 30 cases in each group. In comprehensive therapy group, electroacupuncture at temple-three-needle was mainly applied and Fluoxetine Hydrochloride capsule was taken by oral administration; in medication group, Fluoxetine Hydrochloride capsule was applied by oral administration. Functional Independent Measure (FIM) Scale and WHOQOL-BREF evaluation results before and after treatment were compared after 4 weeks treatment. Results Comparing with the FIM scores before treatment, the differences in the two groups were significant (both P0.01), and the improvement in comprehensive therapy group (74.97±9.52) was superior to that in medication group (66.70±9.23) (P0.01). Signif icant differences were presented statistically in comparison of index scores of WHOQOL-BREF before and after treatment in two groups (P0.05, P0.01), and it in comprehensive therapy group was superior to that in medication group (P0.05, P0.01). Conclusion Activities of daily life and quality of life of post-stroke depression can be significantly improved by electroacupuncture at temple-three-needle and oral administration of Fluoxetine Hydrochloride capsule.展开更多

Methods: Sixty CD cases were randomly allocated into an EA group (n=30) and an herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion group (n=30) using the random number table by the ratio of 1:1. In addition, 30 healthy subjects were included in a control group. Bilateral Tianshu (ST 25), Qihai (CV 6) and Zhongwan (CV 12) were used in the EA and herbal cake- partitioned moxibustion groups. The treatment was done 3 times a week, for a total of 12 weeks. The efficacy was evaluated using self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom scores. Results: Before treatment, the SAS and SDS scores in CD patients were remarkably higher than those in healthy subjects. After EA or herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion treatment, the SAS and SDS scores were significantly decreased in both groups, showing significant intra-group differences (P〈0.05); the symptom scores of abdominal pain (severity, frequency and duration), bowel sounds/flatus and general fatigue were significantly decreased, showing significant intra-group differences (P〈0.05); however, there were no between-group statistical differences (P〉0.05). Conclusion: Both EA and herbal cake-partitioned moxibustion can significantly decrease abnormally high SAS and SDS scores in CD patients as well as TCM symptom scores. The two therapies share similar effects in alleviating common symptoms and improving anxiety and depression.展开更多
