This metal could theoretically provide negative discharge potential and exhibit large capacity during the discharge process. However, when the magnesium anode is adopted for practical applications, several issues, such as the discharge products adhered to the electrode surface, the self-discharge occurring on the anode material, and the detachment of metallic particles, adversely affect its inherently good discharge performance. In this work, the types of chemical power sources using magnesium as anodes were elaborated, and the approaches to enhance its anode performance were analyzed.展开更多

Viscosity of the binary system Na3AlF6-SiO2 was measured by computerized torsion pendulum method. It was found that conductivity and viscosity varied linearly with temperature in all investigated mixtures. Obtained content dependence of electrical conductivity (isotherms) was divided into two parts. First, one represented the content region up to 10%(mole fraction) of SiO2;second, the region was with a higher content of SiO2 (from 10%up to 40%). While the conductivity considerably decreased with content of SiO2 in the second part; it surprisingly rose in the low content range. A small addition of SiO2 to the molten cryolite (up to 10%) could slightly increase viscosity, but had no influence on the slope of this dependence since it is responsible for a glassy-networks formation in the melt. Further addition of SiO2 to the molten cryolite had a huge effect on the viscosity.展开更多

On the basis of analyses of the chargedensity and exchangeable ion composition on the surfaces of soil particles in the suspensions, andof the characters of the EC-field strength curves of the various suspensions, it was inferred thatthe increment of EC (ΔEC) and/or relative electrical conductivity (REC) can indicate the bondingstrength between cations and soil particles. The bonding strengths of various cations with the soilsdiminished in the order: K^+ > Zn^(2+) > Mg^(2+) = Ca^(2+) > Na^+ for latosol, Ca^(2+) > Zn^(2+) >Mg^(2+) = K^+ > Na^+ for yellow-brown soil, and Zn^(2+) ≥ Ca^(2+) ≥ Mg^(2+) > K^+ > Na^+ for blacksoil.展开更多

The direct current (DC) electricalconductivities (ECs) of the colloidal suspensions were measured at a constant temperature of 25 ℃,using a newly established method of measuring the Wien effect in soil suspensions at field strengthsranging from 13.5 to 150 kV cm^(-1), to determine their electrical conductivity-field strengthrelationships and to infer the order of the bonding strength (retaining force) between soilparticles and various ions. The measurements with the latosol suspensions in NaNO_3, KNO_3,Ca(NO_3)_2, Mg(NO_3)_2 and Zn(NO_3)_2 solutions resulted in increments of the suspension ECs, ΔECs,of 7.9, 5.0, 7.1, 7.0 and 5.8 μS cm^(-1), respectively, when the applied field strength increasedfrom 14.5 to 142 kV cm^(-1). As for the suspensions in NaNO_3, NaCl, Na_2SO_4, Na_3PO_4 andNa_3AsO_4 solutions, the ΔECs were 6.2, 5.3, 4.1, 4.0 and 3.7μS cm^(-1), respectively, when theapplied field strength increased from 13.5 to 90 kV cm^(-1). Thus, it can be deduced that theretaining forces of the clay fraction of the latosol for the cations were in the descending orderK^+ > Zn^(2+) > Mg^(2+) ≥ Ca^(2+) > Na^+, and for the anions in the descending order H_2AsO_4^- >H_2PO_4^-≥ SO_4^(2-) > Cl^- > NO_3~ -.展开更多

The anodic polarization potential and corrosion rate were studied and compared with those of traditional fiat anodes (Pb-0.8%Ag) used in industry. The anode corrosion rate was determined by anode actual current density and microstructure. The results show that the anodic oxygen evolution potential decreases first and then increases with the decrease of pore diameter. The anodic potential decreases to the lowest value of 1.729 V at the pore diameter of 1.25-1.60 mm. The porous anode can decrease its actual current density and thus decrease the anodic corrosion rate. The influence of operating parameters and electrolyte composition on the CE and corrosion process were evaluated. The CE was found to be more than 90% and catastrophic corrosion took place at low percent of Al2O3, high percent of LiF, low cryolite ratio and high current densities. From all the structural changes that took place in the SnO2-based inert anodes, we assumed that the most important contribution was due to the migration of CuO towards the outer limits of the constituent grains of SnO2 based ceramic. The complex process occurred during the formation of various phases and their sintering ability both directly depended on Cu/Sb molar ratio.展开更多

The current-voltage characteristics as well as the distribution of electron density, hole density and recombination rate on a set of parameters are simulated. Subsequently, the dependences of the short-circuit current density (Jsc) and open-circuit voltage (Voc) on the electron and hole zero-field mobility, excitation generation rate, energy gap,as well as electron-hole pair distance in an excitation are investigated. It is demonstrated that the enhancement of either the electron mobility or the hole mobility can contribute to the increase of Jsc in the devices. The increase of the hole mobility can lead to the improvement of both Jsc and Voc,and the simultaneous increase of the electron mobility and hole mobility will greatly elevate Jsc but maintain a steady Voc. Additionally, all the increases of the excitation generation rate, energy gap and electron-hole pair distance are beneficial to both the remarkable increases of Jsc and Voc of the devices.展开更多

This makes it interesting to concentrate irradiation on the PV-module, thereby reducing the PV area necessary for obtaining the same amount of output power. The tracking capability of two-axes tracking unit driving a new concentrating paraboloid for electric and heat production have been evaluated. The reflecting optics consisting of flat mirrors provides uniform illumination on the absorber which is a good indication for optimised electrical production due to series connection of solar cells. The calculated optical efficiency of the system indicates that about 80% of the incident beam radiation is transferred to the absorber. Simulations of generated electrical and thermal energy from the evaluated photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) collector show the potential of obtaining high total energy efficiency.展开更多
