In the model, the complex interactions at high temperatures between the electric field, fluid dynamics and the particulate flow are taken into account. We apply different numerical methods for different fields, including an electric field model, Euler-Lagrange particle-laden flows model, and particle charging model. The effects of high temperature on ionic wind, EHD characteristics and collection effi- ciency are investigated. The numerical results show high temperature causes more significant effects of the ionic wind on the gas secondary flow. High viscosity of gas at high temperature makes particles follow the gas flow pattern more closely. High temperature reduces the surface electric strength, so that the mean electric strength weakens the space charging. On the contrary, there is an increase in the diffusion charging at high tem- perature compared with at low temperature. High temperature increases the ratio of mean drag force over mean electrostatic force actin~ on the ~atticles which mav contribute to a decline of collection efficiencv.展开更多

This technique makes a compromise between electrolysis prevention and high flow rate performance. This technique should eliminate electrolytic bubble generation, electrodes wear and fluid propriety modification. All these side phenomena are prevented by considering isolated electrodes. The numerical presented results in this paper demonstrate that continuous MHD pumping is possible with isolated electrodes. The MHD excitation combines a high frequency altering current with a low frequency altering magnetic field. In order to validate our results, two independent theoretical methods for computing flow rate are followed. The two presented independent approaches show that high flow rate is possible even with isolated electrodes. To overcome the problem of dimensioning this kind of pumps, a generic numerical analysis is proposed. Hence, the pump performances as functions of the external parameter are studied and tools to calculate for a given fluid and the optimal high frequency regime are provided.展开更多

Particularly, the influence of the building on the micro wind turbine performance has been studied and the numerical results (wind velocity fields and turbulence intensity above the building) have been compared with the experimental data collected over a period of three years. The results have shown that horizontal-axis wind turbines suffer from wake effect due to buildings, therefore, best sites in urban area have to be identified by a careful fluid dynamic analysis aimed at evaluating all causes that can reduce significantly the performance of the generator: in fact, building should allow to exploit increased wind intensity, but often this advantage is voided by turbulence phenomena, as in the case under investigation where the measured aerogenerator efficiency is lower than the nominal performance curve. Then, the best site can be found by crossing the contours of wind velocity with the turbulence intensity fields: in this way it is possible to localize an area (best location) where the aerogenerator can give maximum performance.展开更多

An innovative CAE (computer aided engineering) methodology, developed combining CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulations with lumped and distributed numerical modeling, is firstly introduced and tailored by comparing the numerical results with measurements coming from an experimental campaign performed for a wide range of pressure loads and metered flow rates.
