Method： Thirty-seven sterility cases due to abnormal semen were randomly allocated into two groups, a group of combined acupuncture and herbal formula （observation group, n=25） and a group of combined acupuncture and oral clomifene capsules （control group, n=12）. Then the clinical symptoms, routine semen indexes, testosterone （T）, follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH） and luteinizing hormone （LH） changes have been observed in two groups respectively before and after treatment. Results： Combined acupuncture and herbal formula obtained substantially better effect than combined acupuncture and oral Western medication （P0.05）. After treatment, the sperm density, 1h survival rate, motility score and normal morphological rates in the observation group were all improved （P0.05）, whereas, there were no statistical differences in the control group except for a decrease in semen volume （P0.05）. Additionally, after treatment, the T and LH values in the control group were significantly elevated （P0.05）; and despite the elevation of FSH, there was no statistical difference. For the observation group, there were no significant changes in T, LH and FSH. Conclusion： Combined acupuncture and herbal formula can obtain accurate efficacy for abnormal semen.展开更多
