However,in the current profile, precision milling, grinding or near-netshape technology has to undergo a tedious iterative error compensation. Thus,if the profile error area and boundary can be determined automatically and quickly,it will help to improve the efficiency of subsequent re-machining correction process. To this end,an error boundary intersection approach is presented aiming at the error area determination of complex profile, including the phaseⅠof cross sectional non-rigid registration based on the minimum error area and the phaseⅡof boundary identification based on triangular meshes intersection. Some practical cases are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach.展开更多

This study compares awards data for disciplinary societies in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) to the proportion of women in each respective field. By establishing availability pool estimates of women who should be eligible for senior scholarly awards, a comparison can be made between the proportion of female award winners and the percentage of women active in the discipline. The CBMS (conference board of mathematical sciences) survey in 2005 reported that women were 9% of all full-time tenured professors in doctoral-level mathematics departments; yet during the last decade, women received only 4.8% of scholarly awards from the AMS (American mathematical society). Similar disparities exist for scholarly achievement awards from the MAA (mathematical association of America), the SIAM (society for industrial and applied mathematics) and the ASA (American statistical association). The under-recognition of women for scholarly contributions cannot be attributed solely to low numbers of women, so further explanation must be sought elsewhere. Curiously, women received more than their expected proportion of awards for service and teaching. Decades of research in the social sciences points to "implicit associations" or subconscious social stereotypes as the mechanism by which both men and women de-value women's intellectual accomplishments and praise their communal contributions, which may explain the gender disparity between scholarly and service awards. Gender disparities in scholarly recognition can hinder the advancement of women and limit their numbers as leaders in STEM fields. AWIS (association for women in science) is working with seven disciplinary societies (including AMS, ASA, MAA and SIAM) to identify patterns of behavior that perpetuate unconscious bias in the awards selection process and to pinpoint ways to mitigate its deleterious effects.展开更多

From the beginning of role in games' plot to sexualized graphical representation, woman in virtual world were (and sometimes still are) a point of discussion about characters sexualisation and role of female sex in virtual industry. The main aim of this paper is to present analysis of female representation in video games and how in last 30 years it has changed. In other words, how female characters were ennobled from sex object to main protagonist status. In presented research, there were used mostly the examples of popular video games with extended plot and world which can be explored by protagonists. Video game historiography, textual analysis (which helped to treat video game character as a protagonist), and thematic analysis of video games were used as a main research method. The main conclusion of this paper is that female characters can overcome all gender or sexual stereotypes and even eventually became an icon of popular culture展开更多

The novel fictionalizes the conversations held by three war veterans who wrote and fought in the First World War (Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon, and Robert Graves) during their stay at Craiglockart's Hospital--a war hospital for the treatment of shell-shocked officers, in Scotland. The paper addresses more emphatically how traditional male and female roles are renegotiated in Barker's metafiction. Finally, it provides some considerations on British women war writing of the First World War, a tradition in which Regeneration is rooted and emerges as a remarkable contemporary example.展开更多

The sample consisted of 217 second year engineering students from various engineering colleges of Pune city. Emotional intelligence was measured with the help of one of the popular measures of emotional intelligence developed by Schutte et al. in 1998 (SE1S). BJW was measured with the help of General Belief in a Just World scale by Dalbert et al. in 1987. Pearson's Product moment correlation was used to find out correlation between BJW and emotional intelligence and test was used to find out gender differences on the variables of the study. Obtained results showed a significant positive correlation between BJW and emotional intelligence. The results demonstrated sex differences in general belief in a just world and also on emotional intelligence. Implications of the study in the light of engineering course have been discussed.展开更多
