Before the Sino-Japanese War of 1894, the Chinese students in Britain are mainly composed of Tongwenguan students and Chuanzheng Navy students. Generally, those students when returned the homeland, are directly rewarded and appointed by the Government of Qing Dynasty,including being given appellations and official position. In the early 20th century, the Government of Qing makse use of examinations to reward appellations and posts to the returned students from Britain. Some earlier-returned students are bestowed military honors. That is to say, the Government of Qing makse various measures to encourage students to study abroad.展开更多
