Objective To observe the clinical effect of fire needle combined with Linggui Bafa for post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). Methods One hundred and twenty patients were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group with 60 cases each. For observation group, fire needle was applied to prick Zusanli (足三里 ST 36), Yanglingquan (阳陵泉 GB 34), Taichong (太冲 LR 3), Sanyinjiao (三阴交 SP 6) and partial Ashi points around the lesion, and Linggui Bafa was combined to perform acupuncture therapy, once every other day, 10 times as a course of treatment; for the control group, only fire needle was applied. After 2 courses of treatment, the comparison of the value of visual analogue scale (VAS) and the total effective rate for the two groups were carried out. Results The VAS value of the observation group after treatment was obviously lower than that before treatment (2.28±2.08 vs 6.12±1.96) and that of the control group (2.28±2.08 vs 3.62±2.90), there were significant differences (all P〈0.01). The total effective rate of the observation group was obviously higher than that of the control group [93.3% (56/60) vs 76.7% (46/60)], the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P〈0.05). Conclusion The effect of fire needle combined with Linggui Ba.fa for PHN is obviously superior to that of single fire needle therapy. 展开更多

Objective To compare the difference in therapeutic effect between the combined therapy mainly based on acupuncture and western medicine in treating postherpetic neuralgia. Methods Eighty patients were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group by ballot, and 40 patients were included in each group. The patients in the treatment group were treated by using the combined therapy mainly based on acupuncture, in other words, electroacupuncture at Jiáj (夹脊 EX-B2) and acupoint injection, and He-Ne laser therapy was also carried out. The patients in the control group were orally administered with 10 mg oxycodone controlled release tablets, twice a day; 0.5 mg mecobalamin tablets, three times a day. Scores for pain, sleep disorders and anxiety degree of the patients were recorded respectively, and the therapeutic effect in the two groups was counted. Results The total effective rate in the treatment group was 100.0% (40/40), which was higher than 87.5% (35/40) in the control group; the markedly effective rate in the treatment group was 85.0% (34/40), which was better than 65.0% (26/40) in the control group (both P0.05). The therapeutic effects in reliefing pain, sleep disorders and anxiety of the patients in the treatment group were better than that in the control group (all P0.01). Conclusion The combined therapy mainly based on acupuncture can effectively treat postherpetic neuralgia and the therapeutic effect is better than that in the western medicine group 展开更多

Herpes zoster is a kind of acute herpes viral dermatosis induced by infection of varicella zoster virus, and is characterized by a painful skin rash with blisters. It often occurs in the areas innervated by intercostal, cervical, trigeminal, and lumbosacral nerves. As a feature of this disease, neuralgia happens before or together with the rash, radiating along the innervated areas. Elderly patients commonly suffer from a long-time residual neuralgia 展开更多
