They are of great significance for the production of pollution-free agricultural products, as well as for exploiting the abundant plant resources in China for the prevention and control of pests. In this paper, the advantages of herbal pesticides, such as being environment-friendly, diverse patterns of action, safety for higher animals and the natural enemies of pests and making it hard for pests to produce resistance were first stated; then, Chinese herbal medicine resources with antibacterial and insecticidal activities from 49 families and their functions were reviewed, and 19kinds of herbal pesticides that have been developed and applied in China and seven kinds that have been produced on a large scale were also introduced; finally, three issues deserving further exploration during the development and application of herbal pesticides were presented, that is, research in variety selection and cultivation of herbs, and methods for extraction of active ingredients; basic research in the structure identification of herbal active ingredients, and the relationship between plant variety and active ingredients; development of lead compounds based on herbal active ingredients.展开更多

METHODS: Twenty two 6-8 wk old HBV TGM in the third generation were divided into TGM control group and TGM treated group randomly. The normal control group included ten normal BC 57L/6 mice at the same age. The mice in treated group were administrated with JWSNS at the concentration of 4 g/mL and the dosage of 50 g/kg per d for 30 d, while the mice in TGM control group and normal control group were administrated with normal saline at the same dosage and the same time. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to assess the contents of HBV DNA in serum of HBV TGM before and after treatments, whereas blot hybridization was utilized to measure the contents of HBV DNA in the liver of both HBV TGM and normal BC 57L/6 mice. RESULTS: The levels of serum HBV DNA in TGM treated group were remarkably decreased after the treatment of JWSNS (7.662±0.78 vs 5.22±3.14, P〈0.05), while there was no obvious change after administration of normal saline in TGM control group (7.125±4.26 vs 8.932 ± 5.12, P〉 0.05). The OD values of HBV DNA in the livers of the mice in TGM treated group were significantly lower than those of TGM control group (0.274±0.096 vs 0.432 ± 0.119, P 〈 0.01). CONCLUSION: JWSNS exerts suppressive effects on HBV DNA in the serum and liver of TGM.展开更多

Methods: A total of 46 cases of vascular dementia (VD) patients were divided into 3 classes according to the scores of the revised Hasegawa dementia scale (HDS), and then randomized into EA group (n=23) and medication (Nimodipine) group (n=23). The acupoints used were "Zhisanzhen" [Shenting (GV 24) and bilateral Benshen (GB 13)] and Sishenchong (EX HN 1) etc.. Scores of HDS, ability of daily life (ADL), neurofunctional defect and main symptoms were used as the indexes for assessing the therapeutic effect. Results: Following treatment, scores of HDS and ADL of two groups increased significantly, while those of neurofunctional defect and main symptoms decreased evidently (P<0.01), and the therapeutic effect of EA was obviously superior to that of medication (P<0.01). Conclusion: EA of "Zhisanzhen" and Sishenchong (EX HN 1) is a good approach for treatment of VD.展开更多
