We aimed to assess the clinical profile of elderly patients with DCMi on EMB. Methods Retrospective study of all consecutive patients hospitalized from January 2007 to December 2011 with clinical suspicion of DCMi undergoing EMB. Patients with evidence of DCMi on EMB (Group 1 〉 70 years, n = 85; Group 3 〈 70 years; n = 418) were compared to patients of the same age group without evi- dence of DCMi on EMB (Group 2 〉 70 years, n = 45; Group 4 〈 70 years; n = 147). Results Among 24,275 patients treated at our institu- tion during the study period, 695 had clinical suspicion of DCMi and underwent EMB; 503 (2.1%) patients had DCMi on EMB. There were more male patients in Group 1, mean age was 74 ~ 2.8 years, mean ejection fraction was 38% q- 14%. On presentation, signs of hemody- namic compromise (NYHA functional class IIUIV, low cardiac output/index, and low cardiac power index) were more frequent in Group 1. EMB revealed viral genome in 78% of the patients, parvovirus B 19 (PVB) was frequently encountered in both age groups (Group 1: 69.4% vs. Group 2: 59.6%); detection of more than one viral genome was more frequent in Group 1 (21.2% vs. 11.2%; P = 0.02) whereas the extent of immune response was significantly lower in individuals with advanced age. Conclusions In patients 〉 70 years with DCMi on EMB signs of hemodynamic compromise, detection of multiple viral genomes together with an overall lower extent of immune response were more frequently observed.展开更多

Methods:Viral nucleic acid was isolated from 10 HIV-1 infected individuals' peripheral blood collected during 1995-2000 in Guangdong Province. The viral gag p24 gene and env gp120 gene were amplified by nested-PCR and sequenced. The homologies among HIV-1 isolates were compared with HIV-BLAST. Results: Among 10 HIV-1 isolates, nine are homologous to viruses of subtype B, and one is homologous to viruses of subtype E. Conclusion: Subtype B viruses of HIV-1 are predominantly present in Guangdong Province.展开更多

Methods and Results: We constructed recombinant adenovirus carrying the wild-type PTEN gene (Ad-PTEN). RL95-2 cells, an endometrial carcinoma cell line lacking PTEN function, was infected with Ad-PTEN and showed increased expression of PTEN and chemosensitivity to doxorubicin, decreased proliferation rate, and elevated apoptosis and Go/G1 arrest. Furthermore, the tumorigenicity of these cells was also completely suppressed. These results indicated that gene therapy with Ad-PTEN could significantly inhibit the endometrial carcinoma xenografts growth in nude mice by intratumoral injection, induce apoptosis of tumor cells, and reduce expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Immunohistochemistry analysis also showed that the expression of progesterone receptors (PR) in Ad-PTEN treated tumor cells were induced, while P-glycoproteins (P-gp) and estrogen receptors (ER) decreased significantly. Conclusion: PTEN may play an important role in the development of endometrial carcinoma. Our findings cast new lights for treatment ofendometrial carcinoma.展开更多

The clones that carried the E1 gene were identified after amp r selection and analysis of restriction enzyme digestion. After sequencing this gene was analyzed by Danstar and Winstar programs, and the map of phylogenetic tree was drawn. The clone of E1 glycoprotein was thus constructed. It was found that the sequence differences between JR23 strain and the TCRB strain from Japan and those between JR23 strain and Thomas strain of England were rather small with difference values of 0.9% and 1.2% respectively. Yet those between JR23 strain and BRD2 strain from Beijing and those between JR23 strain and XG379 strain from Hong Kong were comparatively larger with difference values of 7.6% and 7.3% respectively. The sequence of JR23 strain with other strains was less than 3% except the NC strain (3.7%). It concludes that the construction of E1 glycoprotein gene offers an approach to study the relationship between structures and functions of E1 gene and its gene products. In the phylogenetic tree, it shows that there are significant differences in the sequences of rubella virus isolated in China, and this might be helpful to develop an effective subunit vaccine.展开更多
