Methods: Serum samples were obtained from 70 patients with primary gastric carcinomabefore surgery and 20 patients after surgery. Serum levels of CD44v6 were determined with aquantitative- enzyme- link-immuno- adsorbent assay. The expression of CD44v6 in tumors was examinedby immuno-histo-chemical staining. Results: Both the serum concentration of CD44v6 and itsexpression in tumors were positively related to the depth of invasion of the tumor, lymph nodemetastasis, clinical stage, and diffuse type gastric carcinoma, but not to the tumor size. The serumlevel of CD44v6 in patients with gastric cancer was significantly higher than that in control. Theserum concentration of CD44v6 was markedly lowered after curative surgery (F<0. 001), and the serumlevel of CD44v6 was higher in patients with gastric cancer with CD44v6 positive tumor cells than inthose with CD44v6 negative tumor cells. The serum level of CD44v6 was a prognostic indicator inpatients with diffuse type gastric carcinoma, as was the histological expression of CD44v6.Conclusion: CD44v6 of gastric cancer and serum concentration of CD44v6 seems to be correlated to theprogression of diffuse type gastric carcinoma metas- tasis and clinical stage. An elevated level ofsCD44v6 may serve as an indicator of lymph node metastasis (especially early metastasis) and badprognosis in pa tients with gastric carcinoma.展开更多

Methods: Total 36 patients suspected of breast neoplasm were enrolled into the research. The result was compared with the pathology result. The rate of missed diagnosis, the rate of mi.sdiagnosis. the sensitivity and specificity were calculated and analyzed. Results:Compared with the pathology results, the misdiagnosis rate. the rate of missed diagnosis. the sensitivity and specificity of FDG-PET for breast cancer were 0% , 36. 36%. 63. 63% and 100%, respectively. To those who had a neoplasm no more than 2 cm in diameter, the rate of missed diagnosis was as high as 41. 67%. To 33 breast cancer patients, the misdiagnosis rate, the rate of missed diagnosis, the sensitivity and specificity for lymph node metastasis were 18. 75%, 41. 18%, 58. 82% and 81. 25%, respectively. Conclusion:FDG-PET has a perfect specificity and a considerable sensitivity to the primary breast neoplasm and similar to the lymph node metastasis diagnosis. It is an ideal choice for those patients with suspected breast cancer but reluctantly to receive a vulnerarious examination.展开更多

Methods: 52 cases of middle third tumors with solitary lymph nodes from 1852 gastric carcinomas were selected. The locations and histological types of metastatic lymph nodes were analyzed retrospectively. Results: Of 52 solitary node metastases cases, 37 were limited to perigastric nodes (N1), while 15 with skipping metastasis. In the 35 cases with tumor of lesser curvature, there were 17 cases found lymph nodes of the lesser curvature side (No. 3), 5 cases involved lymph nodes of the greater curvature (No. 4), and 8 cases with lymph nodes of the left gastric artery (No. 7). In the 17 cases with tumor of greater curvature, 7 cases spread to No. 4, while 3 metastasized to lymph nodes of the spleen hilum (No. 10). The difference of the histological types in groups N1 and over N1, were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Adjacent metastasis formed the primary distribution pattern of SLN in middle third gastric carcinoma, transversal and skipping metastases being also notable.展开更多
