In order to start up the brushless DC motor (BLDCM) without reverse rotation and smoothly switch the running state of the motor, a novel startup and smoothly switching method for a sensodess BLDCM is presented. Based on the saturation effect of the stator iron, six short voltage pulses are applied to determine the initial rotor position and the rotor can be found within 60°. After that, a series of short and long voltage pulses are used to accelerate the motor and the variation of the response current is utilized to detect the rotor position dynamically. When the motor reaches a certain speed at which the back-electromotive force (EMF) method can be applied, all the power devices are turned off and the running state of the motor is smoothly switched at the moment determined by the relationship between the terminal voltage waveform and the commutation phases. The experimental results verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed method. 展开更多

This paper proposes an analysis and a direct power control (DPC) design of a wind turbine driven doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) under unbalanced network voltage conditions. A DFIG model described in the positive and negative synchronous reference frames is presented. Variations of the stator output active and reactive powers are fully deduced in the presence of negative sequence supply voltage and rotor flux. An enhanced DPC scheme is proposed to eliminate stator active power oscillation during network unbalance. The proposed control scheme removes rotor current regulators and the decomposition processing of positive and negative sequence rotor currents. Simulation results using PSCAD/EMTDC are presented on a 2-MW DFIG wind power generation system to validate the feasibility of the proposed control scheme under balanced and unbalanced network conditions. 展开更多

The replica-amplifier gain enhancement technique is applied to improve the DC gain of the amplifier, which does not degrade the output swing and is very suitable for low-voltage applications. In a 0. 18/μm standard CMOS process,a 1V OpAmp with rail-to-rail output is designed. For a load capacitance of 5 pF,simulation by HSPICE shows that this OpAmp achieves an effective open-loop DC gain of 65. 9dB,gain bandwidth of 70.28 MHz,and phase margin of 50 with a quiescent power dissipation of 156.7μW. 展开更多

Two types of coaxial self-balancing robots(CSBR)were proposed,one can be used as a mobile robot platform for parts transporting in unmanned factory or as an inspector in dangerous areas,and the other can be used as a personal transporter ridden in cities.Mechanical designing and control structures as well as control strategies were described and compared in order to get a general way to develop such robots.A state feedback controller and a fuzzy controller were designed for the robot using DC servo motors and the robot using torque motors,respectively.The experiments indicate that the robots can realize various desired operations smoothly and agilely at the velocity of 0.6 m/s with an operator of 65 kg.Furthermore,the robustness of the controllers is revealed since these controllers can stabilize the robot even with unknown external disturbances. 展开更多

An underactuated finger structure actuated by tendon-driven system is presented.Kinematics and static analysis of the finger is done,and the results indicate that the prosthetic finger structure is effective and feasible.Based on the design of finger,a prosthetic hand is designed.The hand is composed of 5 independent fingers and it looks more like humanoid.Its size is about 85% of an adult's hand and weights about 350 g.Except the thumb finger,each finger is actuated by one DC motor,gear head and a tendon,and has three curling/extension joints.The thumb finger which is different from other existing prostheses is a novel design scheme.The thumb finger has four joints including three curling/extension joints and a joint which is used to realize the motion of the thumb related to the palm,and these joints are also driven by one DC motor,harmonic drive and a tendon.The underactuation and adaptive curling/extension motion of the finger are realized by joint torsion springs.A high-powered chip of digital signal processing(DSP)is the main part of the electrical system which is used for the motors control,data collection,communication with external controlling source,and so on.To improve the reliability of the hand,structures and sensors are designed and made as simply as possible.The hand has strong manipulation capabilities that have been verified by finger motion and grasping tests and it can satisfy the daily operational needs and psychological needs of deformities. 展开更多

Fast response and stable torque output are crucial to the performance of electric screw presses. This paper describes the design of a direct torque control (DTC) system for speeding up torque response and reducing the starting current of electric screw presses and its application to the J58K series of numerical control electric screw presses with a dual-motor drive. The DTC drive system encompasses speed control, torque reference control, and switching frequency control. Comparison of the DTC dual-AC induction motor drive with corresponding AC servo motor drive showed that for the J58K-315 electric screw press, the DTC drive system attains a higher maximum speed (786 r/min) within a shorter time (1.13 s) during a 250 nun stroke and undergoes smaller rise in temperature (42.0 ℃) in the motor after running for 2 h at a 12 min-1 strike frequency than the AC servo motor drive does (751 r/min within 1.19 s, and 50.6 ℃ rise). Moreover, the DTC AC induction motor drive, with no need for a tachometer or position encoder to feed back the speed or position of the motor shaft, enjoys increased reliability in a strong-shock work environment. 展开更多

Load Torque Compensator for Model Predictive Direct Current Control in High Power PMSM Drive Systems

The widely used cascade speed and torque controllers have a limited control performance in most high power applications due to the low switching frequency of power electronic converters and the convenience to avoid speed overshoots and oscillations for lifetime considerations. Model Predictive Direct Current Control (MPDCC) leads to an increase of torque control performance taking into account the discrete nature of inverters but temporary offsets and poor responses to load torque variations are still issues in speed control. A load torque estimator is proposed in this paper in order to further improve dynamic behavior. It compensates the load torque influence on the speed control setting a feed forward torque reference value. The benefits are twice; the speed controller reaches the speed reference value without offsets which would need to be compensated by an integrator and a better response to load torque variations is obtained since they are detected and compensated leading to small speed variations. Moreover, the influence of pararneter errors and disturbances has been analyzed and limited so that they play a minor role in operation. 展开更多

The inter-line dynamic voltage restorer (IDVR) consists of several voltage source inverters connected to different independent distribution feeders with common dc bus. When one of the inverters compensates for voltage sag that appears in its feeder (voltage control mode), the other inverters pump the required power into the dc bus (power control mode). Each inverter will have both voltage and power controllers; only one controller is in use during the abnormal conditions according to its feeder state. The voltage controller uses one of the dynamic voltage restoration techniques. In this paper, the in-phase technique is applied and two types of loads are considered (constant impedance and three phase induction motor). Since the voltage restoration process may need real power injection into the distribution system, the power controller injects this power via voltage injection. This voltage injection is simulated by voltage drop across series virtual impedance. A new scheme is proposed to select the impedance value. The impedance value is selected such that the power consumed by this impedance represents the required power to be transferred without perturbing the load voltage. The performance of this system is also studied during voltage swell. A scheme for operation of multi-feeder IDVR system is proposed in this paper. Low valence vanadium oxide(VO2-x) thin films were prepared on SiO2/Si substrates at room temperature by direct current facing targets reactive magnetron sputtering, and then proc- essed through rapid thermal annealing. The effects of the annealing on the structure and phase transition property of VO2 were discussed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction tech- nique and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were employed to study the phase composition and structure of the thin films. The resistance-temperature property was measured. The results show that VO2 thin film is obtained after annealed at 320 ℃ for 3 h, its phase transition tempera- ture is 56 ℃, and the resistance changes by more than 2 orders. The vanadium oxide thin films are applicable in thermochromic smart windows, and the deposition and annealing process is compatible with micro electromechanical system process. 展开更多

VFT (variable frequency transformer) has been recently used as art alternative to HVDC (high voltage direct current) to control power flow between asynchronous networks. VFT consumes less reactive power than a back-to-back HVDC system, provides faster initial transient recovery, and has better natural damping capability. VFT is simply a DFIM (doubly-fed induction machine) where the machine torque controls the power flow from stator to rotor and vice versa. The main disadvantage of this VFT is the slip rings and brushes required for the rotor circuit, especially in bulk power transmission. The BDFM (brushless doubly-fed machine) with nested cage rotor machine is proved to be a comparable alternative to conventional DFIM in many applications with the advantage that all windings being in the stator frame with fixed output terminals. In this paper, the BDFM is used as a BVFT (brushless variable frequency transformer). A prototype machine is designed and simulated to verify the system validity. 展开更多

Six driving cycles were selected to represent different traffic conditions e.g. freeway, urban, suburb. A neural algorithm was used for traffic condition recognition based on ten parameters of each driving cycle. The DCR was utilized for optimization of the HEV control parameters using a genetic-fuzzy approach. A fuzzy logic controller (FLC) was designed to be intelligent to manage the engine to work in the vicinity of its optimal condition. The fuzzy membership function parameters were optimized using the genetic algorithm (GA) for each driving cycle. The result is that the DCR_ fuzzy controller can reduce the fuel consumption by 1. 9%, higher than only CYC _ HWFET optimized fuzzy (0.2%) or CYC _ WVUSUB optimized fuzzy (0.7%). The DCR_ fuzzy method can get the better result than only optimizing one cycle on the complex real traffic conditions. 展开更多

This paper presented an automatic gain control (AGC) circuit suitable for FM/cw ladar. The proposed architecture was based on two-stage variable gain amplifier (VGA) chain with a novel DC offset canceller circuit, which contained an improved Gilbert cell and a Gm-C feedback loop. To keep the VGA with a linearity in dB characteristic, an improved exponential gain control circuit was introduced. The AGC was implemented in 0.18 gm standard CMOS process. Simulation and measurement results verified that its gain ranged from -20 dB to 30 dB, and band- width ranged from 100 kHz to 10 MHz. Its power consumption was 19.8 mW under a voltage supply of 3.3 V. 展开更多

The proposed control algorithm is applied to a DFIG whose stator is directly connected to the grid and the rotor is connected to the grid through a back-to-back AC-DC-AC PWM (pulse width modulation) converter. The RSC (rotor side converter) is controlled in such a way to extract a maximum power, for a wide range of wind speed. The GSC (grid side converter) is controlled in order to filter harmonic currents of a nonlinear load coupled at the PCC (point of common coupling) and ensure smooth DC bus voltage. Simulation results show that the wind turbine can operate at its optimum energy for a wide range of wind speed and power quality improvement is achieved. 展开更多

This paper presents a fuzzy logic control for dual active bridge series resonant converters for DC smart grid application. The DC smart grid consists of wind turbine and photovoltaic generators, controllable and DC loads, and power converters. The proposed control method has been applied to the controllable load's and the grid side's dual active bridge series resonant converters for attaining control of the power system. It has been used for management of controllable load's state of charge, DC feeder's voltage stability during the loads and power variations from wind energy and photovoltaic generation and power flow management between the grid side and the DC smart grid. The effectiveness of the proposed DC smart grid operation has been verified by simulation results obtained by using MATLAB and PLECS cards. 展开更多
