[Objective] This paper aimed to clarify the rice planting methods and its supporting technology to be developed in rice producing areas in China. [Method] Evolvement of rice planting methods in rice producing areas in China and in representative rice-growth countries abroad, its characteristics, adaptability and key issues were analyzed. [Result] The analysis of development of rice planting method in China and abroad indicated that rice planting method was adapted to rice-based cropping system and ecological environment, and its transition accompanied with social and economic development. With agricultural labor transfer from agriculture to other industries since 1990’s, rice seedling throwing was gradually applied and in recent decades, while direct seeding and machine transplanting were practiced. Now, hand transplanting is still the main rice planting method, adopted in 50% of national rice planting area; seedling throwing, direct seeding and machine transplanting are conducted in 25% , 12% and 13% of the national rice planting area. [Conclusion] Machine transplanting should be a leading rice planting method. Though area covered with machine direct seeding is still small up to now, it can be practiced in some rice growing area due to labor saving and low cost. Leading planting methods and its supporting key technologies are proposed in various rice producing areas in the future. 展开更多

Effect of radical surgery combined with pre- or postoperative radiotherapy in treatment of resectable rectal cancer

Objective: This study was done to compare between the effect of preoperative radiotherapy and postoperative radiotherapy in treatment of resectable rectal carcinoma. The primary endpoints are local recurrence rate, overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS). The secondary endpoints are to evaluate down-staging, treatment toxicity, and ability to do sphincter preservation, aiming at choosing the optimal treatment modality. Methods: This study included 100 patients with resectable rectal carcinoma who presented to Surgical Gastro Entrology Center and Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department, Mansoura University during the period between January 2007 and September 2009. The included patients were randomized in two groups; group h 50 patients received preoperative radiotherapy and group Ih 50 patients received post- operative radiotherapy. Concurrent 5-fluorouracil-based chemotherapy was given to all patients. Two major types of surgery were done: abdomino-perineal resection with a permanent colostomy and low anterior resection with colorectal or coloanal anastomosis. Results: Preoperative radiotherapy resulted in pathologic complete response in 3 patients. T down-staging occurred in 18 out of 50 patients (36%) with statistically significant difference (P = 0.008). N down-staging occurred in 10 out of 24 patients. Sphincter preservation was more in group I. Delayed wound healing was the most common postoperative complication in group I with no significant difference. After a median follow up of 18 months, local recurrence rate and distant metastasis were higher in group I1. The 2-year disease free survival was 72% and 60% in group I and II respectively with no statistically significant difference between both groups. Conclusion: This study concluded that preoperative radiotherapy is better than postoperative radiotherapy as regard local control, sphincter preservation with higher disease free survival and overall survival. This study evaluates combustion performance and exhaust emission characteristics of several WCOs with different sources. Modification on fuel properties has been done to improve the combustion and exhaust emission of using WCO as diesel fuel. Regular diesel fuel also has been used for comparison in the test. A 0.6 liter, single-cylinder, air-cooled direct injection diesel engine was used to perform this experiment. Experiment was done at variable engine loads at constant speed. 展开更多

The population which could not access to electricity was around 1.2 billion in 2010 and is distributed in many low developing countries. With the increase in the population and the economic growth in those countries, waste generation is growing rapid especially for the organic and the plastic, and the uncontrolled waste disposal is becoming more serious issues to manage it. The interest on waste to energy is growing by the above drivers. This research was carried out for aiming to the real world adaption at the minimum cost of the pyrolysis oil from waste biomass in a diesel engine, mainly for electricity generation. The proposal of the appropriate adaptable blend ratio was the major scope rather than the optimization of the engine parameters. For the sake of it, the pyrolysis oil of the waste biomass was produced from a gasification pilot plant in Japan and blended with biodiesel at minimum effort. A small single cylinder diesel engine (direct injection) was used for the experiment with regard to full load power-output, exhaust emissions and fuel consumption. 展开更多

In the context of topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) model, we study the charged and neutral top-pions production process γγ →W+ ∏t-∏t^0. We find that the production cross section is larger than that of the process γγ→ W+ H-H in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. With reasonable values of the parameters in the TC2 model, the cross section can reach the level of a few fb. Furthermore, the flavor-changing (FC) decay mode ∏t^0 → te^- is the best channel to detect the neutral top-pion due to the clean SM background. With a large number of events and the clean background, the neutral top-pion should be observable at future linear colliders operating in γγ mode at the TeV energy scale. 展开更多
