Early reports, suggested that auxin might affect plant stress response. We have identified a number of auxin responsive genes in Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. by using cDNA an-ay and found that stress responsive genes, such as,Arabidopsis homolog of MEK kinase 1 (ATMEKK1), ReL/SpoT homolog 3 ( At-RSH3), Catalase 1 ( Cat1) and Ferritin 1 (Fer1), were down-regulated by auxin, indicating that auxin regulates ale expression of stress responsive genes. We also demonstrated that nitrilase genes, nitrilase I ( NIT]) and nitrilase 2 (NIT2) involving in indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) biosynthesis, were induced by salinity stress, suggesting that the level of IAA might increase in response to salinity stress. To dissect the signal pathway involved in the interaction, two auxin insensitive mutants, auxin resistant 2 (axr2) and auxin resistant 1-3 (axrl-3) were used. Stress responsive genes were induced by salt stress in wild type and axr2, but not in axr1-3. The result suggests that die interaction between auxin and stress responses may be linked in the ubiquitin pathway.展开更多

Concurrence, the measurement of entanglement, is calculated. Compared with the anisotropic in XY plane, the DM interaction is another kind of anisotropic antisymmetrie exchange interaction. It is shown that the intrinsic decoherence obviously suppresses the time evolution of the entanglement. The DM interaction only acts on the time evolution of the entanglement when the initial state is [ψ(0)〉 = cosα|01〉 + sinα|10〉 and weakens the degree of entanglement. The anisotropic in XY plane merely impacts on the time evolution of the entanglement when the system & initially in a state |ψ(0)〉 = cos α|00〉 + sin α|11 〉. The sufficiently weak anisotropic in XY plane can effectively enhance the degree of entanglement.展开更多

A peculiarity of the proposed implementation is the application of the so-called "moving-patch" method for simulating steady boundaries of large extensions. The method is based on an assumption that at any moment just the part of the boundary ("moving patch") which lies close to the interacting ship is significant for the near-field interaction. For a specific case of the fiat bottom, comparative computations were performed to determine optimal dimensions of the patch and of the constituting panels based on the trade-off between acceptable accuracy and reasonable efficiency. The method was applied to estimate the sway force on a ship hull moving obliquely across a dredged channel. The method was validated for a case of ship-to-ship interaction when tank data were available. This study also contains a description of a newly developed spline approximation algorithm necessary for creating consistent discretizations of ship hulls with various degrees of refinement.展开更多

Activation of complement leads to robust and efficient proteolytic cascades, which terminate in opsonization and lysis of the pathogen as well as in the generation of the classical inflammatory response through the production of potent proinflammatory molecules. More recently, however, the role of complement in the immune response has been expanded due to observations that link complement activation to adaptive immune responses. It is now appreciated that complement is a functional bridge between innate and adaptive immune responses that allows an integrated host defense to pathogenic challenges. As such, a study of its functions allows insight into the molecular underpinnings of host-pathogen interactions as well as the organization and orchestration of the host immune response. This review attempts to summarize the roles that complement plays in both innate and adaptive immune responses and the consequences of these interactions on host defense.展开更多

METHODS:The expression of genes significantly changed on microarray during H pylori infection was scanned from the web literary database and translated into proteins.A network of protein interactions was constructed by searching the primary interactions of selected proteins. The constructed network was mathematically analyzed and its biological function was examined. In addition, the nodes on the network were checked to determine if they had any further functional importance or relation to other proteins by extending them. RESULTS:The scale-free network showing the relationship between inflammation and carcinogenesis was constructed.Mathematical analysis showed hub and bottleneck proteins, and these proteins were mostly related to immune response. The network contained pathways and proteins related to H pylori infection, such as the JAK-STAT pathway triggered by interleukins.Activation of nuclear factor (NF)-κB,TLR4,and other proteins known to function as core proteins of immune response were also found. These immune-related proteins interacted on the network with pathways and proteins related to the cell cycle, cell maintenance and proliferation, andtranscription regulators such as BRCA1,FOS,REL,and zinc finger proteins. The extension of nodes showed interactions of the immune proteins with cancer- related proteins. One extended network, the core network,a summarized form of the extended network, and cell pathway model were constructed. CONCLUSION:Immune-related proteins activated by H pylori infection interact with proto-oncogene proteins. The hub and bottleneck proteins are potential drug targets for gastric inflammation and cancer.展开更多

The influence of ammonium sulfate (AS), monocMcium phosphate (MCP), and potassium chloride application on K fractions in three typical soils of China was evaluated during 90-d laboratory soil incubation. The presence of AS significantly altered the distribution of native and added K in soils, while addition of MCP did not significantly affected K equilibrium in most cases. Addition of AS significantly increased water-soluble K (WSK), decreased exchangeable K (EK) in almost all the soils except the paddy soil that contained considerable amounts of 2:1 type clay minerals with K added, retarded the formation of fixed K in the soils with K added, and suppressed the release of fixed K in the three soils without K added. These interactions might be expected to influence the K availability to plants when the soil was fertilized with AS. To improve K fertilizer use efficiency, whether combined application of AS and K was to be recommended or avoided should depend on K status of the soil, soil properties, and cropping systems.展开更多

The influence of interface stresses on the critical shear stress was examined. The result indicates that, if the volume fraction of the core-shell nanowires keeps a constant, an optimal critical shear stress may be obtained when the radius of the nanowire with interface stresses reaches a critical value, which differs from the classical solution without considering the interface stresses under the same external conditions. In addition, the material may be strengthened by the soft nanowires when the interface stresses are considered. There also exist critical values of the elastic modulus and the thickness of surface coating to alter the strengthening effect produced by it.展开更多
