Monthly averaged wind stress and the inflow/outflow transports in January were used in the numerical simulation which reproduced the SCSWC. The effects of wind stress and inflow/outflow were studied separately. Numerical experiments showed that the Kuroshio intrusion through the Luzon Strait and the slope shelf in the northern SCS are necessary conditions for the formation of the SCSWC. In a flat bottom topography experiment, the wind stress driven northeast current in the northern SCS is a compensatory current.展开更多

Different from previous investigations, we treat the quark phase with the quark mass density-and-temperature-dependent model to take the strong quark interaction into account, while the hadron phase is treated by hard core repulsion factor. It is found that the phase diagram in this model is, in several aspects, different from those in the conventional MIT bag model, especially at high temperature. The new phase diagram also has strong effects on the mass-radius relation of compact hybrid stars.展开更多

Using XXZ spin 1/2 chains with 15 or fewer sites, we demonstrate the weak finite-size dependence of spinon velocity for any magnitude of coupling strength and the strong phase dependence of central charge. This behavior of velocity and central charge in different coupling constants and different phases gives a method to determine phase transitions of -dimensional models. This method is simple and efficient by utilizing only the ground state energy of very short finite-size chains. It is also general and powerful for various one-dimensional lattice models and it uncovers even the weakest Berezinski?Kosterlitz?Thouless phase transitions.展开更多

Motivated by the prevalence of cutouts in components, the objective of this paper is to demonstrate ability to stress analyze finite, circularly-perforated orthotropic composites whose external loading may be unknown. Recognizing difficulties in obtaining purely theoretical or numerical solutions, the paper presents a hybrid means of stress analyzing such structures. Individual stresses, including those on the edge of the hole, are obtained in a loaded finite graphite/epoxy composite tensile plate containing a round hole by processing measured values of a single displacement field with an Airy stress function in complex variables. Displacements are recorded by digital image correlation. Traction-free conditions are satisfied analytically at the edge of the hole using conformal mapping and analytic continuation. Stresses satisfy equilibrium and strains satisfy compatibility. Significant features of the technique include its wide applicability, it smooths the measured information, does not require knowing the applied loading, and the rigorous mechanics foundation by which strains are determined from measured displacements.展开更多
