The ability to recognise video events has become increasingly more popular owing to its extensive practical applications. Most events will occur in certain scene with certain people, and the scene context and group context provide important information for event recognition. In this paper,we present an algorithm to recognise video events in different scenes in which there are multiple agents.First,we recognise events for each agent based on Stochastic Context Sensitive Grammar(SCSG).Then we propose the model of a scene in order to infer the scene in which the events occur, and we use a co-occurrence matrix of events to represent the group context. Finally, the scene and group context are exploited to distinguish events having similar structures.Experimental results show that by adding the scene and group context, the performance of events recognition can be significantly improved. 展开更多

Mycobacterium tuberculosis(M.tb) and human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) co-infection has become a public health issue worldwide. Up to now, there have been many unresolved issues either in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of M.tb/HIV coinfection or in the basic understanding of the mechanisms for the impairments to the immune system by interactions of these two pathogens. One important reason for these unsolved issues is the lack of appropriate animal models for the study of M.tb/HIV coinfection. This paper reviews the recent development of research on the animal models of M.tb/HIV co-infection, with a focus on the non-human primate models. 展开更多

One strand of research in public economics has found that increasing ethnic diversity leads to reductions in provision of productive public goods. Another strand of research has emphasized the key role that tax and expenditure limitations play in the provision of public services. This paper explores the interaction between these two effects. The regression results suggest that the prior results on ethnic diversity are robust when TELs are taken into consideration. In addition, the imposition of TELs mitigates the negative effect of ethnic fragmentation on the share of local spending on education and roads. It also mitigates the positive correlation between ethnic diversity and total local government revenue and expenditure per capita. 展开更多

The complex interplay between symbiotic bacteria and host immunity plays a key role in shaping intestinal homeostasis and maintaining host health. Paneth cells, as one of the major producers of antimicrobial peptides in the intestine under steady-state conditions, play a vital role in regulating intestinal flora. Many studies on inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)-associated genes have put Paneth cells at the center of IBD pathogenesis. In this perspective, we focus on mechanistic studies of different cellular processes in Paneth cells that are regulated by various IBD-associated susceptibility genes, and we discuss the hypothesis that Paneth cells function as the central hub for sensing and regulating intestinal flora in the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis. 展开更多

Enzymes are biomacromolecules responsible for the abundant chemical biotransformations that sustain life. Recently, biochemists have discovered that multiple conformations and numerous parallel paths are involved during the processes catalyzed by enzymes. It is plausible that the entire macromolecular scaffold is involved in catalysis via cooperative motions that result in incredible catalytic efficiency. Moreover, some enzymes can very strongly bind the transition state with an association constant of up to 1024 M-1, suggesting that covalent bond formation is a possible process during the conversion of the transition state in enzyme catalysis, in addition to the concatenation of noncovalent interactions. Supramolecular chemistry provides fundamental knowledge about the relationships between the dynamic structures and functions of organized molecules. By tak-ing advantage of supramolecular concepts, numerous supramolecular enzyme mimics with complex and hierarchical structures have been designed and investigated. Through the study of supramolecular enzyme models, a great deal of information to aid our understanding of the mechanism of catalysis by natural enzymes has been acquired. With the development of supramolec-ular artificial enzymes, it is possible to replicate the features of natural enzymes with regards to their constitutional complexity and cooperative motions, and eventually decipher the conformation-based catalytic mystery of natural enzymes. 展开更多
