The knowledge representation mode and inference control strategy were analyzed according to the specialties of air-conditioning cooling/heating sources selection. The constructing idea and working procedure for knowledge base and inference engine were proposed while the realization technique of the C language was discussed. An intelligent decision support system (IDSS) model based on such knowledge representation and inference mechanism was developed by domain engineers. The model was verified to have a small kernel and powerful capability in list processing and data driving, which was successfully used in the design of a cooling/heating sources system for a large-sized office building. 展开更多

This article describes experimental evaluations of the authors' previous studies on the knowledge-based system (KBS) aimed at capturing and managing CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operator knowledge. The proposed KBS follow thinking steps of CNC operators when they assess machining parameters described in the CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) file before proceeding to CNC machining processes. Also, the decision support system equipped with expert system (ES) has been proposed to realize efficient knowledge capturing system and effective usability of captured knowledge, and to recommend actions and decisions. From the viewpoint of providing useful information, the KBS should be aware of context or constraints in which the user has to deal with. In this study, the usefulness of DSS (Decision Support System) and ES is experimentally evaluated using real cases. Comparing the results of the testing participants with and without the DSS and ES, the effectiveness and usefulness were demonstrated. In addition, it was shown that the proposed system is also useful to narrow the discrepancies between CAM and CNC operators, focusing on CNC milling operations. 展开更多

A New Approach for Knowledge Discovery in Distributed Databases Using Fragmented Data Storage Model

Since the early 1990, significant progress in database technology has provided new platform for emerging new dimensions of data engineering. New models were introduced to utilize the data sets stored in the new generations of databases. These models have a deep impact on evolving decision-support systems. But they suffer a variety of practical problems while accessing real-world data sources. Specifically a type of data storage model based on data distribution theory has been increasingly used in recent years by large-scale enterprises, while it is not compatible with existing decision-support models. This data storage model stores the data in different geographical sites where they are more regularly accessed. This leads to considerably less inter-site data transfer that can reduce data security issues in some circumstances and also significantly improve data manipulation transactions speed. The aim of this paper is to propose a new approach for supporting proactive decision-making that utilizes a workable data source management methodology. The new model can effectively organize and use complex data sources, even when they are distributed in different sites in a fragmented form. At the same time, the new model provides a very high level of intellectual management decision-support by intelligent use of the data collections through utilizing new smart methods in synthesizing useful knowledge. At present the entire world is under the risk of severe environmental problems, due to the expansion of industries, urban population and commercial activities, the city like Delhi (India) faces transportation, environmental and economic challenges. Such type of situations demand the addition of knowledge based layer to help the operators to be familiar with exact traffic problem and give the best choice of strategic control actions to the city. In current situation there is a necessity to build systematic, knowledge based tool to analyze and manage the recent or potential air quality issues and traffic noise issues. The paper comprises the creation of knowledge from the information which is extracted from the various data by using knowledge based modules (spreadsheets, database, software, etc.) and some management, optimization models. Such type of knowledge based management tool may act as a Decision Support System (DSS) which will be very supportive in traffic control system. The technology of knowledge-based systems may facilitate in designing and executing suitable knowledge structures to formulate conceptual models for traffic analysis and management and to use such approach for on-line strategic traffic management operations. 展开更多
