At the moment different ferrous, non-ferrous materials and industrial blue wax have been used for prototype models. However such materials is very expensive. Hence an attempt is made to substitute these materials by the palm oil based bio-wax produced in Malaysia. In this research, the authors will analyze and investigate whether there is a possibility to use the palm oil based bio-wax material to substitute with the petroleum based industrial-wax. Experimental analyses are carried out to investigate the capability and the strength of the palm oil based bio-wax material. The matrix blends were prepared of fatty acids from oleo-chemicals, palm oil wax, natural ash fibre and low linear density polyethylene (LLDPE) by stirring and melt-mixing. Sample b!ends are machined with lathe machining process. The sample blends showed there was no built edge formation and good smooth surface production.展开更多

Twenty-eight patients had well-differentiated, 22 had moderately differentiated and 30 had poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Forty-five patients and 35 patients had lymph node metastasis. Forty-five patients were of Dukes A to B stage, and 35 were of C to D stage. Another 22 paraffi n-embedded tissue blocks of normal colorectal epithelium (>5 cm away from the edge of the tumor) were selected as the control group. All patients with colorectal cancer were treated surgically and diagnosed histologically, without preoperative chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The immunohistochemistry was used to detect the ezrin expression in paraffin-embedded normal colorectal mucosa tissues and colorectal cancer tissue samples.RESULTS: Ezrin expression in colorectal cancer was significantly higher than in normal colorectal mucosa (75.00% vs 9.09%, P<0.01), and there was a close relationship between ezrin expression and the degree of tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage (88.46% vs 50.00%, P<0.01; 94.28% vs 51.11%, P<0.01; 94.28% vs 51.11%, P<0.01).CONCLUSION: Ezrin expression is obviously higher in colorectal cancer tissues than in normal colorectal mucosa tissues, and the high level of ezrin expression is closely related to the colorectal cancer invasion and metastasis process.展开更多

Methods Here we investigated the mechanism involved in association of Skp2's degradation of p27 Kip1 with the breast carcinogenesis by immunohistochemical method through detection of Skp2 and p27 Kip1 protein levels in 120 paraffin-embedded tissues of intraductal proliferative lesions including usual ductal hyperplasia (UDH, n=30), atypical ductal hyperplasia (n=30), flat epithelial atypia (FEA, n=30), and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS, n=30). Moreover, the expression status of Skp2 and p27 Kip1 in 30 cases of the normal breast paraffin-embedded tissues were explored. Results The DCIS group was with the highest Skp2 level and the lowest p27 Kip1 level, and the UDH group was with the lowest Skp2 level and the highest p27 Kip1 level. Both Skp2 and p27 Kip1 levels in the DCIS group were significantly different from those in the UDH group (all P<0.01). The levels of Skp2 and p27 Kip1 in the FEA group were significantly different from both the DCIS and UDH groups (all P<0.05). p27 Kip1 was negatively correlated with Skp2 in both the UDH group (r=-0.629, P=0.026) and DCIS group (r=-0.893, P=0.000). Conclusion Overexpression of Skp2 might be the mechanism underlying p27 Kip1 over degradation.展开更多

This material can be stored in biobanks with the purpose of future research. Formalin-fixed tissue and also formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues are not suitable for all kinds of genetic studies on DNA or RNA, as formalin solution is well known for damaging nucleic acids. Therefore, for the purpose of conducting genetic studies, samples should be frozen in order to maintain a good quality of DNA/RNA over time Biobanks, in which waste samples are frozen, are undoubtedly expensive to maintain; however, it could be useful and important to consider their possible implication in particular research, regarding for example the tumor cells growth process, or when the procurement of samples is difficult. Regarding the relationship between informed consent and tissue collection, storage and research, two choices are possible: irreversible or reversible sample anonymization. These procedures involve different approaches and possible solutions that we will seek to define. Also, an important ethical aspect in regard to the role of biobanks is encouraging sample donation. For donors, seeing human sample being kept rather than discarded and seeing them become useful for research highlight the importance of the human body and improve the attitude towards donation. This process might also facilitate the giving of informed consent more trustfully and willingly.展开更多

PCMs (phase change materials) are the high latent heat materials which can be used in building materials for energy conservation purpose. PCMs can store thermal energy and also can prevent heat to pass through temperature control areas. Paraffin has been used as PCMs are absorbed into the pore of fly ash as paraffin/fly-ash composite and mixed into the buildings materials. Paraffin is an organic material with high melting point (-59℃), and nonflammable materials therefore paraffin can be used as the building materials for the function of PCMs for energy saving purposes. Composite PCMs can be prepared by vacuum impregnation process. Paraffin in liquid form will be impregnated into the pore of fly ash by vacuum capillary force to form paraffin/fly ash composite PCMs. Vacuum impregnation pressures, vacuum times, impregnation times of liquid paraffin in fly ash pores and temperatures for melting the solid paraffin into the liquid form are all affect on the thermal properties of paraffin/fly ash composite PCMs. Paraffin or PCMs impregnation are also relate to the physical property including the fractal dimensions of the pores of the fly ash particles and paraffin/fly ash composite PCMs. The fractal dimensions of the pore of fly ash and paraffin/fiy ash composites PCMs are between the values of 1.0 and 2.0. Fractal dimensions of paraffin/fly-ash composite PCMs have the same trend as the thermal properties for heat capacity and latent heat of melting. These fractal dimensions technique is a novel method to measure physical property of building material related to latent heat and heat capacity.展开更多
