The influence of Zr and Y on the cast microstructure of a nickel-based superalloy was investigated by optical microscopy (OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),electron probe micro-analysis(EPMA)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).Theγ+γ′eutectic volume in the superalloy rises notably with the increase of Zr or Y content.Meanwhile,the morphologies of primary MC carbides change from needle and platelet-like to blocky shape with increasing Zr and Y doped.The XRD results show that the primary MC carbide lattice constant increases with Zr and Y additions,and EPMA investigation shows that the platelet-like MC carbides contain primarily Nb and C,while those carbides in blocky shape have 39.2%Zr and 39.6%Nb in average,.These influences on the cast microstructure can be attributed to the atomic size effects of Zr and Y. 展开更多

In order to reduce the friction coefficients and further improve the anti-wear properties of Ni-base alloy coatings reinforced by TiC particles,graphite/TiC/Ni-base alloy(GTN) coatings were prepared on the surface of 45 carbon steel.The effects of graphite content on the microstructure and tribological properties of the GTN coatings were investigated.The results show that the addition of graphite to the GTN coatings may greatly reduce the friction coefficients and improve their wear resistance.The 6.56GTN and 12.71GTN coatings exhibit excellent integrated properties of anti-friction and wear resistance under low and high loads,respectively.Under a low load,the wear mechanisms of the GTN coatings are mainly multi-plastic deformation with slight abrasive wear and gradually change into mixture of multi-plastic deformation,delamination and micro-cutting wear with the increase of graphite fraction.As the load increases,the main wear mechanisms gradually change from micro-cracks,micro-cutting and adhesive wear to micro-cutting and micro-fracture with the increase of graphite fraction. 展开更多

The precipitation behavior of carbide in K416 B superalloy was investigated by means of creep measurement and microstructure observation. The results show that nanometer M6 C particles discontinuously precipitate in the γ matrix or along the γ/γ′ interface of the alloy during high temperature tensile creep. Thereinto, the amount of fine M6 C carbide increases as creep goes on, and the coherent interfaces of M6 C phase precipitating from the γ matrix are {100} and {111} planes. The thermodynamics analysis indicates that the solubility of element carbon in the matrix decreases when the alloy is deformed by the axial tensile stress during creep, so as to cause the carbon segregating in the regions of stress concentration and combining with carbide-forming elements M(W, Co), which promotes the fine M6 C carbide to precipitate from the γ matrix. 展开更多

The phase transformation temperature, segregation behavior of elements and as-cast microstructure were investigated in experimental nickel-base superalloys with different levels of carbon and boron. The results show that the liquidus temperature decreases gradually but the carbide solvus temperature increases obviously with increasing carbon addition. Minor boron addition to the alloy decreases the liquidus temperature, carbide solvus temperature and solidus temperature slightly. Apart from rhenium, the segregation coefficients of the elements alter insignificantly with the addition of carbon. The segregation behavior of rhenium, tungsten and tantalum become more severe with boron addition. The volume fraction and size of primary carbides increase with increasing carbon addition. The main morphology of the carbides is script-like in the alloys with carbon addition while the carbide sheets tend to be concentrated and coarse in the boron-containing alloys 展开更多

A nanocomposite composed of Ni modified carbon nitride was synthesized and used in the hydro- genation of p-chloronitrobenzene. H/D exchange demonstrated that the hydrogen chemisorbed on the surface of this nanocomposite catalyst had a hydrogen atom density of 0.65/nm2. It was active for hydrogenation but its activity was inferior to the hydrogen adsorbed on a Ni/Al2O3 catalyst. Catalytic tests showed that this catalyst possessed a lower activity than Ni/AhO3 but the selectivity towards p-chloroaniline was above 99.9%. Even at high conversion, the catalyst maintained high selectivity, which was attributed to the unique surface property of the catalyst and the absence of a site for the adsorption ofp-chloronitrobenzene, which prevents the C-Cl bond from breaking. 展开更多

Effects of hot extrusion (HEX) and heat treatment on prior particle boundary (PPB), MC carbides,γ′precipitates and grain size of nickel-base FGH96 superalloy were studied. The results show that PPB consists of largeγ′, MC carbides enriched with Ti, Nb and a modicum of oxides. Thereafter, it can efficaciously tune γ′ precipitate size from micrometer down to nanometer region and simultaneously results in the annihilation of PPB by HEX process. The activation energy for grain growth of as-HEXed FGH96 superalloy was measured to be 402.6 kJ/mol, indicating that γ′ precipitate serves the critical role in inhibiting grain growth under sub-solvus heat treatment. Moreover, the results reveal that grain growth is primarily restrained by MC carbide in the case of super-solvus temperature. 展开更多

The CO2reforming of CH4is studied over MgO‐promoted Ni catalysts,which were supported on alumina prepared from hydrotalcite.This presents an improved stability compared with non‐promoted catalysts.The introduction of the MgO promoter was achieved through the‘‘memory effect’’of the Ni‐Al hydrotalcite structure,and ICP‐MS confirmed that only0.42wt.%of Mg2+ions were added into the Ni‐Mg/Al catalyst.Although no differences in the Ni particle size and basicity strength were observed,the Ni‐Mg/Al catalyst showed a higher catalytic stability than the Ni/Al catalyst.A series of surface reaction experiments were used and showed that the addition of a MgO promoter with low concentration can promote CO2dissociation to form active surface oxygen arising from the formation of the Ni‐MgO interface sites.Therefore,the carbon‐resistance promotion by nature was suggested to contribute to an oxidative environment around Ni particles,which would increase the conversion of carbon residues from CH4cracking to yield CO on the Ni metal surface.?2018,Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences.Published by Elsevier B.V.All rights reserved. 展开更多

Materials-development projects for advanced ultra-supercritical(A-USC) power plants with steam temperatures of 700℃ and above have been performed in order to achieve high efficiency and low CO_2 emissions in Europe, the US, Japan, and recently in China and India as well. These projects involve the replacement of martensitic 9%–12% Cr steels with nickel(Ni)-base alloys for the highest temperature boiler and turbine components in order to provide sufficient creep strength at 700℃ and above. To minimize the requirement for expensive Ni-base alloys, martensitic 9%–12% Cr steels can be applied to the next highest temperature components of an A-USC power plant, up to a maximum of 650℃. This paper comprehensively describes the research and development of Ni-base alloys and martensitic 9%–12% Cr steels for thick section boiler and turbine components of A-USC power plants, mainly focusing on the long-term creep-rupture strength of base metal and welded joints, strength loss in welded joints, creep-fatigue properties, and microstructure evolution during exposure at elevated temperatures. 展开更多

In order to study the effect of the withdrawing rate on carbide morphology,MC-type carbide in single crystal superalloy AM3 was systematically investigated with sample growth rates from 3.5 μm/s to 500 μm/s.The carbide morphologies were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and the electron probe microanalysis(EPMA) was used to characterize the carbide composition.The results indicate that the solidification rate is the important factor governing MC carbide growth morphology,size and distribution,composition and growth mechanism.With the increase of withdrawing rate,nodular,rod-like,Chinese script types of carbide morphology are observed.For the low withdrawing rate,with the increase of withdrawing rate,the carbide size becomes larger.For the case of dendritic interface,the carbide size becomes smaller with refinement of dendrites as withdrawing rate increases.The volume fraction of carbides increases with the withdrawing rate increasing. 展开更多

Formation of volatile nickel carbonyls with CO in catalytic reaction is one of the mechanisms of catalyst deactivation. CO is one of the most popular probe molecules to study the surface properties in model catalysis. Under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions, the problem of nickel carbonyl impurity almost does not exist in the case that a high purity of CO is used directly. While in the near ambient pressure (NAP) range, nickel carbonyl is easily found on the surface by passing through the Ni containing tubes. Here, the NAP techniques such as NAP-X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and NAP-scanning tunneling microscopy are used to study the adsorption of nickel carbonyl contaminated CO gas on Cu(111) surface in UHV and NAP conditions. By controlling the pressure of contaminated CO, the Ni-Cu bimetallic catalyst can form on Cu(111) surface. Furthermore, we investigate the process of CO adsorption and dissociation on the formed Ni-Cu bi-metal surface, and several high-pressure phases of CO structures are reported. This work contributes to understanding the interaction of nickel carbonyl with Cu(111) at room temperature, and reminds the consideration of CO molecules contaminated by nickel carbonyl especially in the NAP range study. 展开更多
