A 3×3 factorial experiment was conducted to determine the effects of water temperature (22 ℃, 27℃ and 32℃) and dietary carbohydrate (CBH) levels (15.47%, 29.15% and 41.00%) on growth, food consumption, feed efficiency, apparent digestibility coefficient and energy budget of juvenile Lito- penaeus vannamei. The results showed that, at each dietary CBH level, specific growth rate, food con- sumption and apparent digestibility coefficient generally increased, while feed efficiency decreased with increasing water temperatures. Specific growth rate and food consumption were the highest in the shrimps fed with diet of 29.15% CBH, closely followed by those with 15.47% CBH, and those with 41.00% CBH had the lowest value. 展开更多

Uniconazole, as a plant growth retardant, can enhance stress tolerance in plants, possibly because of improved antioxidation defense mechanisms with higher activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and peroxidase(POD) enzymes that retard lipid peroxidation and membrane deterioration. These years much attention has been focused on the responses of antioxidant system in plants to uniconazole stress, but such studies on aquatic organism are very few. Moreover, no information is available on growth and antioxidant response in marine microalgae to uniconazole. In this paper, the growth and antioxidant responses of two marine microalgal species, Platymonas helgolandica and Pavlova viridis, at six uniconazole concentrations(0-15 mg L-1) were investigated. The results demonstrated that 3 mg L-1 uniconazole could increase significantly chlorophyll a and carbohydrate contents of P. helgolandica(P < 0.05). Higher concentrations(≥12 mg L-1) of uniconazole could inhibit significantly the growth, dry weight, chlorophyll-a and carbohydrate contents of P. helgolandica and P. viridis(P < 0.05). Uniconazole caused a significant increase in lipid peroxidation production(MDA) at higher concentrations(≥ 9 mg L-1). The activities of antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) were enhanced remarkably at low concentrations of uniconazole. However, significant reduction of SOD and CAT activities was observed at higher concentrations of uniconazole. 展开更多

Dissolved fluorescent organic matter was measured using fluorescence excitation-emission matrix spectroscopy at three temporal points during a Synechococcus bloom after diatom bloom dispersion in spring, 2007. Carbohydrate and dissolved organic carbon were also analyzed. The relationship between organic matter and red tide succession was examined. The results show that after the diatom bloom, tyrosine-like fluorescence B intensity was very high within the water column and exhibited a negative correlation with chlorophyll a over the period of the Synechococcus bloom. Other organic matter did not exhibit this relationship with chlorophyll a. This implied that diatom bloom dispersion resulted in the release of large quantities of tyrosine-like compounds into the water. These may play a role as a nutrient source or growth-stimulating substance for the subsequent Synechococcus bloom. 展开更多

Phase equilibrium conditions of gas hydrate in several systems were measured by the step-heating method using the cylindrical transparent sapphire cell device.The experimental data for pure CH4 or CO2+deionized water systems showed good agreement with those in the literatures.This kind of method was then applied to CH4/CO2+sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)aqueous solution,CH4/CO2+SDS aqueous solution+silica sand,and(CH4+C2H6+C3H8)gas mixture+SDS aqueous solution systems,where SDS was added to increase the hydrate formation rate without evident influence on the equilibrium conditions.The feasibility and reliability of the step-heating method,especially for porous media systems and gas mixtures systems were determined.The experimental data for CO2+silica sand data shows that the equilibrium pressure will change significantly when the particle size of silica sand is less than 96μm.The formation equilibrium pressure was also measured by the reformation of hydrate. 展开更多

This paper describes the embryonic development of the common cutworm Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) which is divided into eight embryonic stages, through variations in the egg's contents. Experiments were conducted on the eggs ofS. litura under laboratory conditions. The highest concentration of the protein (min.-max.: 32-! 40 lag/egg) and the lowest of the carbohydrate (min.-max.: 3.0-44.0 lag/egg) were obtained; similarly, the DNA content was smaller (min.-max.: 1.0-38.2 lag/egg) than the RNA (min.-max.: 9.2-360.0 lag/egg) throughout the embryogenesis. Three peaks of ecdysteroid titre were observed which were responsible for appearance of particular events during embryogenesis. The last highest peak of 400_+33.4 lag/egg was appeared at 84 h after oviposition when larva was ready to hatch. Therefore, it is concluded that eight embryonic stages in S. litura were characterized by fluctuation in the egg's contents, which were responsible for gradual-progressive embryonic development. The egg-larval development did not show a normal distribution of embryonic developmental-time. 展开更多

Work assessed "Pringles" as an imitate snack produced from composite flour of cocoyam and wheat. This was carried out in order to exploit the nutritional and aesthetic value of cocoyam (Colocasia escullenta Vat.) to improve the overall quality of the Pringles as against its production from potato and wheat composite flour. Composite flour (100%:0%, 90%:10%, 80%:20%, 70%:30%, 60%:40% and 50%:50%) of cocoyam and wheat respectively as the major raw materials were adopted and used for the production of the Pringles. Physicochemical analysis (pH, water absorption capacity (WAC), bulk density (BD) and swelling capacity (SC)); proximate analysis (protein, fats, ash, moisture and carbohydrate content) and sensory evaluation (colour, texture, taste and overall acceptability) were carried out on the samples produced using standard methods. Physicochemical analysis showed the pH of 5.48 to 6.61, WAC (12.00 to 17.50), BD (1.43 to 1.56) and SW (1.03 to 1.38). However, sample with 10% cocoyam and 90% wheat composite flour gave the best physicochemical properties of pH (5.98), WAC (14.00), BD (1.56) and SC (1.38). The proximate analysis showed that carbohydrate content ranging between 53.36 to 61.12, and protein content (8.17 to 12.29), fat content (16.67 to 23.97), ash content (3.49 to 45.53), fiber content (1.71 to 2.83) and moisture content (8.76 to 14.54). Sample B equally gave the nutrient proximate combination of appreciable percentage on the average. The result of the sensory evaluation showed that there is no significant difference between the samples produced in terms of aroma. There is a significant different between samples A, B and the remaining samples in terms of colour and taste. On the overall acceptability, samples A, C and D showed no significant difference but the highest mean score was found with sample B. Conclusively, acceptable snack (Pringles) can be produced from cocoyam and wheat in ratio 90%: 10%, respectively. 展开更多

In Mexico, the "charal" fish Chirostoma spp. is grouped in five species: Chirostoma grandocule, Chirostoma patzcuaro, Chirostoma humboltianum, Chirostoma attenuatum and Chirostomajordani which live in lakes in the country, and they are not consumed or their demand is low The objective of this research was to analyze the macronutrients of Chirostomajordani charal and inform population their nutritional value to increase human nutrition. Sampling was provided at Xochimilco channels in Xochimilco, D.F., summer and winter seasons at 2009. Fish (200 g) were maintained in channels water for proximal analysis according AOAC methods (1995). The results in dry bases were: protein 74.36%, lipids 1.24%, fiber 0.27%, minerals 4.9%, and soluble carbohydrates 19.23%. This fish grants protein, plastic material essential for human development: its lipid and carbohydrate contents, sources of energy, are low; however, the excess of disseminated proteins increase the energy sources. Fiber is found in a minimum amount. Dehydrated charales may be stored without refrigeration up to 3 months, maintaining their nutritional value. Consumption of the charal should be considered in the basic diet for its nutritional properties, to diminish malnutrition in the Mexico and other countries. 展开更多

Moreover, typicity and authenticity of a wine are defining conditions under conditions of fierce intemational competition to guarantee success of wine. There were concerns for determining areas with designation of origin from a vineyard that will produce quality wines, but the purpose of this study is to delimit the level of a vineyard small area that can ensure the achievement of a certain type of wine, a quality required by consumers. The research was made during 2006-2008 and revealed that the production of quality grapes and are influenced by different factors such as genetic, environmental and technological acting in complex. This is a first attempt to study characterize the concept of "terroir", as applied in the Copou vineyard from lasi county and provides information on the behavior of two varieties of grapes for wine: Feteasca Regala and Muscat Ottonel. Depending on the purpose, observations and calculations have found the influence of soil characteristics on several biochemical parameters and productive at varieties of Feteasca Regala and Muscat Ottonel (soluble carbohydrate content, total acidity, the average yield of grapes) for the purpose of knowledge than a more detailed wine center in northeast of Romania. The protein content (g/100g soya dry weight) ranged from 38.20 to 62.98 with the highest content in the high moisture extruded protein product fermented with 5 mL inoculum of Bacillus natto. Contents of carbohydrates ranged from 14.77 to 29.08 while those of crude fibre, fat and ash were generally low. Fermentation better improved protein digestibility in the raw soya meal and kernel than in the unfermented extruded and extruded fermented products. SDS-PAGE electrophoresis revealed some degradation of the protein sub units of fermented samples. 展开更多

This study aimed to induce callus from three sunflower (Helianthus annulus L.) hybrids, namely Anna, Alhaja and Kuds, and to evaluate their callus for salt stress tolerance. Cotyledons and hypocotyl were taken from seedling of these hybrids and cultured on MS media contained 2,4-D (0,0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mg/L) and kinetin (0.0, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/L). The cultures incubated at 25 + I^C under light condition (1,000 Lux) for 16 h/day. After 6 weeks observations were taken on the response of cotyledons and hypocotyl to callus induction. The induced callus were cultured on the same MS media that contained appropriate concentrations of 2,4-D and kinetin for callus induction as well as contained various concentration of sodium chloride NaCI (0.0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2%). After six weeks callus fresh and dry weights, proline and total carbohydrates concentrations were measured. The results showed significant differences among the hybrids, explants, 2,4-D and kinetin concentration and significant interaction between them in their percentage response for callus induction. The results also revealed that fresh and dry weights were significantly reduced with increased NaCI concentration in the medium, hybrids showed significant differences in their response to salt stress. Proline and total carbohydrate concentration increased in callus as NaCI increased in the media. Significant interaction was showed between hybrids and NaCI concentration in these parameters. 展开更多

The aim of this research was to study the effect of spraying nutritional solution "PRO.SOL" and chelated iron on vegetative and floral growth characteristics on Gazania plant. Randomized Complete Block Design (R.C.B.D) was adopted utilizing two applications in three replicates. Three concentration levels of nutritional solution PRO.SOL (10.00, 5.00 and 0.00 mg/L) and four concentration levels of chelated iron (90.00, 60.00, 30.00 and 0.00 mg/L) were applied in this experiment. The interaction between the two factors was also measured. The mean values were compared using L.S.D test at probability level 0.05. Spraying PRO.SOL at concentration 10.00 mg/L or chelated iron concentration level 90.00 mg/L improved growth parameters. There was significant increase in: number of total leaves per plant, shoot dry weight, leaves total chlorophyll content, number of off-shoots, number and length of primary roots, length of the peduncle, number of flowers, number of petals and flower dry weight. Meanwhile leaf carbohydrate contents, phosphorus percentage and leaf iron content were increased significantly compared with the (unsprayed plants). The interaction treatment, spraying nutritional solution PRO.SOL at concentration level 10.00 mg/L with 90 mg Lt chelated iron had a significant increase in all studied growth parameters, i.e., the number of flowers and petals gave 8.33 flowers and 18.67 petals compared with the control treatment which gave 3.33 flowers and 13.00 petals. Meanwhile leaf carbohydrate contents, phosphorus percentage and leaf iron content increased significantly in comparison with the unsprayed plants which gave the least values. 展开更多

However, its nutritional aspect is also a matter of concern. The objective of the present study was hence to assess the nutrient components of fast food sold in streets of Patna town. A total of 30 fast food samples from streets were collected from different locations of Patna town in aseptic containers and immediately transferred to the laboratory for proximate analysis. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the collected data. In terms of nutrient contribution, the highest energy content was found in Hot potato chips (536 ~ 85.2 kcal /I00 g) followed by Chicken chawmin (527 ~ 253.08 kcal/plat), Chilli chicken (464 ~ 91.8 kcal/plat) and Pav bhaji (425 -4- 164 kcal/plat). Highest level of protein was detected in Chilli chicken at 27.3 ~ 5.01 g per serving. Protein of Chilli chicken supplied approximately 29% of the total energy content per serving. Maximum amount of fat was also found in Chilli ckicken (35.5 ~ 31.89 g/plat). Total fat contribution of Chilli ckicken to the total energy per serving found to be approximately 67%. Highest level of carbohydrate was detected in Idli at 15.0 ~ 9.18 g per serving of sample which contributed approximately 91% of the total energy content per serving. From this study it was concluded that street fast foods provide an appreciable amount of recommended nutrient composition. It could be observed in this study that street fast foods supply appreciable amount of nutrients and calories to the people of Patna. 展开更多

The effects of three nitrogen sources (ammonium, nitrate and ammonium+nitrate) and three salt treatments (0, 100 and 200 mM NaCl) on nitrate reductase activity, proline, soluble protein and carbohydrate contents in psylliom (Plantago ovata) plants were Studied. The nitrate reductase activity tended to increase when NO3- was included in the root-zone solution, but decrease as salinity increased. All N sources stimulated plant growth and nutrient uptake. Shoot and root dry matter tended to decrease as salinity increased, but less so when both NH4+ and NO3- were present. Shoot biomass accumulated to significantly greater quantities under the mixed-N treatments than when produced using either NH4+ or NO3- N-form alone. Although not statistically significant, the root biomasses showed a similar tendency. Generally, leaf proline and soluble shoot carbohydrate contents increased with increasing salinity in contrast to soluble protein which decreased regardless of the N source. Under salinity conditions, the concentration of Na+ in shoot and root tissues was highest in ammonium-N treatment, while that of K+ was highest in the mixed-N treatment. 展开更多

In our context, and in the goal to valorize the Pistacia atlantica species Desfthat grows spontaneously in Algeria occidental except the coastline, and that is used by the nomadic populations in their daily consumptions, we are thinking about drying its leaves. Here, the biochemical analysis of dried leaves ofPistacia atlantica is determined, the sorption is other ms are of great importance in the food industry, especially in the drying; the sorption isotherms of pistachio leaves were measured by the gravimetric method at three temperatures 40, 50 and 60 ℃. The equilibrium was achieved after eight days for desorption and seven days for adsorption with water activity ranging from 5% to 90%. Only the GAB and Peleg models were found to be the most suitable for describing the sorption curves. The isosteric heat of sorption of Pistacia atlantica leaves decreases with an increase in moisture content and was found to be an exponential function of moisture content for adsorption and desorption. The pistachio leaves could be considered as a rich natural source of valuable nutriments (carbohydrates, proteins and lipids); lipid fraction is equal to 2.25%; proteins are the second macronutriment that predominates in these sheets: 4.35%; accordingly carbohydrates content was about 25.77%. 展开更多

One of the new approaches for capturing carbon dioxide and subsequently lowering the emissions is based on gas hydrate crystallization. Gas hydrates have a large capacity for the storage of gases which also resemble an attractive method for gas filtration. The basis of the separation is the selective partition of the target component between the hydrate phase and the gaseous phase. It is expected that carbon dioxide is preferentially encaged into the hydrate crystal phase compared to the other components. In the present paper, after a comparison of gas hydrates with existing capture technologies, a novel apparatus for gas hydrate production is illustrated and results of a first set of experimental applications of the reactor for CO2 hydrate formation and separation are presented. In particular, the effects of two different promoters were investigated. Results show that the reactor allows a good level of temperature control, resulting in rapid hydrate formation and mild operating conditions. Results are a basis for setting up a procedure for CO2 separation and capture. 展开更多

The use of the residues from renewable feedstock, besides the production of fuels, but also for the generation of other chemicals products, has become a priority. Superior plants have considerable potential as carbohydrate, aryl and fatty acids sources. However, the separation of the main constituents of the samples is necessary for several purposes in the biorefinery concept. The acid hydrolysis and pyrolysis processes are very promising technology, however, some adjustments in the conditions of pyrolysis are needed for different biomasses since carbohydrates were detected (14%-17%) in the residues after the conventional acid hydrolysis of these uncommon biomasses (coffee husk and banana stem and stalk). On the other hand, it was showed that, by pyrolysis, it is possible to obtain from the solid residue after acid hydrolysis: pyrogenic carbon (charcoal with a yield of 48.5%-52.7%) for agriculture use (biochar) and valuable chemicals in the pyrolysis oil biooil fraction (that accounted by 26.4%-29.0%, free of water), such as lignin monomers (32.6%-56.4% of the bio-oil) and fatty acids (30%-52.5%). 展开更多

Carbohydrates constitute the most abundant organic matter in nature, serving as structural components and energy sources, and mediating a wide range of cellular activities. The emergence of nanomaterials with distinct optical, magnetic, and electronic properties has witnessed a rapid adoption of these materials for biomedical research and applications. Nanomaterials of various shapes and sizes having large specific surface areas can be used as multivalent scaffolds to present carbohydrate ligands. The resulting glyconanomaterials effectively amplify the glycan-mediated interactions, making it possible to use these materials for sensing, imaging, diagnosis, and therapy. In this review, we summarize the synthetic strategies for the preparation of various glyconanomaterials. Examples are given where these glyconanomaterials have been used in sensing and differentiation of proteins and cells, as well as in imaging glycan-medicated cellular responses. 展开更多
