It is found that Ni-Fe alloy exhibits significant catalytic effect on the graphitization of the carbon fibers at low temperatures. The degree of graphitization of the carbon fibers coated with Ni-Fe alloy (57.91% Fe, mass fraction) reaches 69.0% through heat treatment at 1 250 °C. However, the degree of graphitization of the carbon fibers without Ni-Fe alloy is only 30.1% after being heat-treated at 2 800 °C. The catalytic effect of Ni-Fe alloy on graphitization of carbon fibers is better than that of Ni or Fe at the same temperature, indicating that Ni and Fe elements have synergic catalytic function. Furthermore, Fe content in the Ni-Fe alloy also influences catalytic effect. The catalytic graphitization of Ni-Fe alloy follows the dissolution-precipitation mechanism.展开更多

The adsorbed leaching liquor was analyzed by atomic emission spectroscopy and colorimetric method. The contents of various kinds of ions in ACFF were determined with X-ray photoctron spectroscopy. ACFF not only adsorbed gold but also adsorbed arsenic, nickel, zinc, calcium, sulphur, bismuth, copper, iron, silver and cyanide anion. Atomic percentage of C and those of O, N, Zn, Fe increase and decrease respectively with the increase of the layer depth, while those of Ca, Au, Ag keep constant.展开更多

Characteristics andmullitization of the sol were analyzed throughly. It is found that the formation of mullite is basically completed at 1300℃ and thegel powders exhibit favorable sintering shrinkage. The 3D C/mullite composites without interfacial coating were fabricated throughthe route of vacuum impregnation-drying-heat treatment. Satisfied mechanical properties with a flexural strength of 241.2 MPa anda fracture toughness of 10.9 MPa·m1/2are obtained although the total porosity reaches 26.0%. Oxidation resistances of the compositesat 1200, 1400 and 1600 ℃ were investigated. Due to the further densification of matrix, the 3D C/mullite composites show tiny massloss and their mechanical properties are well retained after oxidation at 1600 ℃ for 30 min.展开更多

Carbon fibers with and without electrodeposited Fe-Cr2O3 composite coating were heat treated at different temperatures and the structural changes were characterized by XRD, Raman spectroscopy and SEM. The results indicate that Fe-Cr2O3 composite coating exhibits a significant catalytic effect on graphitization of carbon fibers at low temperatures. When the Fe-Cr2O3-coated carbon fibers were heat treated at 1 300℃ the interlayer spacing (doo2) and ratio of relative peak area (AD/AG) reach 3.364/k and 0.34, respectively. Whereas, the extent of graphitization of pristine carbon fibers is comparatively low even after heat treatment at 2 800℃ and the values of doo2 and AD/AG are 3.414 A and 0.68, respectively. The extent of graphitization of carbon fibers increases not only with the increase of the catalyst gross but also the Cr2O3 content in Fe-Cr2O3 coating. The catalytic effect of Fe-Cr2O3 composite coating accords with the dissolution-precipitation mechanism.展开更多

In the method, ethanol was employed as carbon source; metal salts such as nickel nitrate, ferric nitrate and ferric chloride were used as catalyst precursor respectively; copper plate was employed as the support material. A lot of products were obtained by catalytic combustion deposition of ethanol vapor. Then the as-prepared carbon nanofibers were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy and selected-area electron diffractometry. By analyzing the results of characterization, the conclusions are as follows: 1) the large catalyst particles tend to form large-diameter CNFs, small catalyst particles are inclinable to form small-diameter CNFs; 2) the morphology of the catalyst can affect the final morphology of the CNFs. Moreover, the possible growth mechanisms were proposed and the degree of graphitization of samples was estimated by Raman spectroscopy characterization.展开更多

CFRP b...CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic), which is composed of carbon fibers in a resin matrix, is an extremely strong and light composite material that has found use in the aerospace and automotive industries. CFRP boards are very difficult to machine using common machining processes. Various machining artifacts, such as burrs and delamination, occur frequently when machining CFRP. Adequate techniques for machining CFRP have not yet been established. Recently, electroplated diamond wire machining technology has found use in cutting hard, brittle materials such as silicon and sapphire. In this study, we used an electroplated diamond wire saw to cut a CFRP workpiece. We quantified the cutting forces imposed on the workpiece and observed the surface state of the workpiece after cutting. We demonstrated that an electroplated diamond wire tool is suitable for the high-quality machining of CFRP boards.展开更多

The addition of small amounts of solvent during the milling process makes it possible to enhance the intercalation of the exfoliating agent (melamine) between the graphene layers, thus promoting exceptional exfoliation. Advantage has also been taken of the fact that the Hansen solubility parameters of graphene are different from those of carbon fibres, which allows single and few-layer graphene to be suspended in a particular solvent, thus discriminating them from poorly exfoliated carbon nanofibres.展开更多

In both flat and corrugated graphene sheets and in graphite, we find a Poisson's ratio of 0.19 and a Young's modulus of 342 N/m. The unique exception is graphene/Ni(111), for which we find different values because of the stretching of C-C bonds occurring in the commensurate overstructure (0.36 and 310 N/m for the Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus, respectively). Such findings are in excellent agreement with calculations performed for a free-standing graphene membrane. The high crystalline quality of graphene grown on metal substrates leads to macroscopic samples with high tensile strength and bending flexibility for use in technological applications such as electromechanical devices and carbon-fiber reinforcements.展开更多
