The film was prepared by two steps: the AZ31 alloy was first immersed in an Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 solution venting CO 2 gas to form a precursor film, and then the precursor film was treated in a Na 2 CO 3 solution dissolved with Al to obtain the dawsonite film. The surface morphology of the conversion film was observed with an environmental scanning electronic microscope. The chemical composition of the conversion film was analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry. Electrochemical and immersion tests were carried out to evaluate the protection effect of the conversion film on AZ31 alloy. There are some network-like cracks on the surface of the film. The conversion film is mainly composed of dawsonite NaAlCO 3 (OH) 2 , Al(OH) 3 and Al 5 (OH) 13 (CO 3 )·5H 2 O, which can increase the corrosion potential and reduce the corrosion current density of the Mg substrate. After immersion tests, the film almost keeps intact, except for the localized narrow areas with several corrosion pits, while the bare material undergoes serious general corrosion. It is indicated that the dawsonite film can provide good protection to the magnesium alloy.展开更多

Exposure environment classes and regulations of the minimum concrete cover and strength of the two codes are compared and analyzed. Numerical calculations for predicting the durable life of bridges related to carbonization and chlorides corrosion (marine and de-icing) are conducted. The results show that provisions in the two codes can satisfy the durability requirements under carbonization whereas they cannot guarantee the durability for bridges in spray and splash zones. Enhancing the waterproof capacity and reducing the frequent use of de-icing agents are vital to improving the bridge durability. Some recommendations for upgrading the durability are also included.展开更多

However, this support is prone to corrosion under oxidative and harsh environments, thus limiting the durability of the fuel cells. Meanwhile, carbon corrosion would also weaken the linkage between Pt and the support material, which causes Pt agglomeration, and consequently, deterioration of the cell performance. To overcome the drawbacks of a Pt/C electrocatalyst, a hybrid support material comprising molybdenum disulfide and reduced graphene oxide is proposed and synthesized in this study to exploit the graphitic nature of graphene and the availability of the exposed edges of MoS2. TEM results show the uniform dispersion of Pt nanoparticles over the MoS2-rGO surface. Electrochemical measurements indicate higher ECSA retention and better ORR activity after 10000 potential cycles for Pt/MoS2-rGO as compared to Pt/C, demonstrating the improved durability for this hybrid support material.展开更多

The results show that the mild steel in the de-aerated slurry exhibits classical active/passive polarization behavior. The speed of cylinder rotation has a great effect in the presence of particles on the active dissolution current density. The erosion-corrosion process is severely erosion-dominated for the mild steel. However, the poor corrosion resistance of the mild steel in such turbulent slurries is also significant, especially at lower than 4 m/s.展开更多
