The experimental parameters include rebar ratios, number of plies of CFRP laminates and preload level at the time of strengthening. Theoretical analysis was also carried out to explain the experimental phenomena and results. The experimental and theoretical results indicated that the preload level has more influence on the stiffness and deflection of the strengthened beam, both at post-cracking and post-yielding stage, than that on the yielding and ultimate flexural strength of the strengthened beam. The main failure mode of CFRP-strengthened beam is the intermediate crack-induced debonding of CFRP laminates, provided that the development length of CFRP laminates and shear capacity of the beam are sufficient.展开更多

Its performance is compared with the conventional air Brayton cycle under five typical engine conditions. The results show that CO2 Brayton cycle proves to be superior to the air Brayton cycle in terms of the system net output power, thermal efficiency and recovery efficiency. In most cases, the recovery efficiency of CO2 Brayton cycle can be higher than 9% and the system has a better performance at the engine's high operating load, The thermal efficiency can be as large as 24.83% under 100% olaerating load, accordingly, the net outnut nower of 14.86 kW in nhtnined展开更多

The results show that the thermal shrinkage in the direction perpendicular to the lamination of the composites gradually increases with the increase of the heat treatment temperatures from room temperature (25 ℃ ) to 1000 ℃. However, the composites in the direction parallel to the lamination show an expansion behavior. Beyond 1 000℃, in the two directions the composites exhibit a larger degree of shrinkage due to the densification and crystallization. The mechanical properties of the composites show the minimum values in the temperature range from 600 to 800 ℃ as the hydration water of geopolymer matrix is lost. The addition of α-Al2O3 particle filler into the composites clearly increases the onset crystalline temperature of leucite (KAlSi2O6) from the amorphous geopolymer matrix. In addition, the addition of α-Al2O3 particles into the composites can not only help to keep volume stable at high temperatures but also effectively improve the mechanical properties of the composites subjected to thermal load to a certain extent. The main toughening mechanisms of the composites subjected to thermal load are attributed to fiber pulling-out.展开更多

Apart from aesthetically unattractive because of its visibility, gross pollutants also contributes to degradation of river water quality and loss of aquatic habitat as it carries harmful pollutants such as oxygen demanding material, hydrocarbons and heavy metals. This study analyzed trend of gross pollutant generated from two urban residential areas located in Selangor, Malaysia. The median value of gross pollutant load obtained fi'om the Amanah Apartment and Bandar Botanic are 347.41 kg/ha/year and 32.46 kg/ha/year, respectively. Relationship between gross pollutant wet load with rainfall depths was derived using regression equation. A significant trend of increasing gross pollutant wet load into drainage system with increasing rainfall depth was observed. The behavior of pollutant load is related to the one observed in Australia.展开更多

The effects of torsion, axial load, thermal-electrical change, surrounding elastic medium and the Van der Waals forces are all taken into consideration. The governing equation of buckling for CNTs subjected to thermo-electro-mechanical loadings has been established based on an elastic shell model of continuum mechanics. Reasonable simplifications are made to get the explicit expression of the critical buckling shear stress of DWCNTs, and numerical experiments are conducted for further research. It is shown that under certain electric and temperature field the critical buckling shear stress of DWCNTs only depends on the wave number of buckling modes. On the other hand, all the related impact factors have enormous influence on the critical buckling shear stress under a certain buckling mode. The critical buckling shear stress changes linearly with the axial-to-shear stress ratio, as well as the thermal and electric change. Axial compression tends to make DWCNTs unstable, while axial tension benefits the buckling stability. The critical buckling shear stress is directly proportional to the applied voltage. At room or lower temperature, the critical shear stress for infinitesimal buckling increases as the temperature change increases, while it decreases at a higher temperature. The conclusions are useful for the design of nano-structures related to the buckling stability of DWCNTs.展开更多
