To investigate changes of functional activation areas of the cerebral cortex and the connectivity of motor cortex networks (MCNs) in stroke patients during the recovery, five patients with the infarct in their left hemispheres are recruited. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is performed in the second, fourth, eighth, and sixteenth weeks after the stroke. Images are analyzed using the professional software SPM5 to obtain the bilateral activation of the motor cortex in left and right handgrip tests. MCN data are extracted from the active areas, and the structural and functional characteristic parameters are computed to indicate the connectivity of the network. Results show that the ipsilesional hemisphere recruits more areas with less active extent during the handgrip test, compared with the contralesional hemisphere. MCN shows a higher overall degree of statistical independence and more statistical dependence among motor areas with the gradual recovery. It can help physicians understand the recovery mechanism. 展开更多

This paper introduces a new technology to fabricate a micro electromagnetic actuator with high energy density without an enclosed magnetic circuit. This technology includes fabricating multi-turns planar micro coils and fabricating the thick magnetic (NiFe) core on the silicon wafer. The multi-turns planar micro coils are fabricated by the electroplating method from the surface along the line and by dynamically controlling the current density of the copper electrolytes. In order to fabricate thick NiFe plating,the adhesion properties between the NiFe plating and the silicon substrates are improved by changing the surface roughness of the silicon substrates and increasing the thickness of the seed layer. Furthermore,the micro electromagnetic actuator is tested and the energy density of the actuator is evaluated by force testing. The experiments show that the microactuator is efficient in producing high magnetic energy density and high magnetic force. 展开更多

A novel variable damper using an adjustable energy harvesting structure is proposed for semi-active vibration systems. The fluid flowing in a hydraulic cylinder is employed to drive an electromagnetic generator for harvesting vibration energy, which on the other hand, leads to a damping effect of the hydraulic damper. To make the damping force variable, an adjustable resistor is adopted to tune the capability of energy harvesting. The present approach is validated by both theoretical analysis and experimental evaluation. When connected with different resistance loads, the prototype damper has different equivalent damping coefficients ranging from 3. 987 × 104 to 2. 488 × 105 N· s/m. The results show that the damping force of the damper is variable in response to the adjustable load for the vibration energy harvesting. 展开更多

Depression recognition using functional connectivity based on dynamic causal model

Dynamic casual modeling of functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI) signals is employed to explore critical emotional neurocircuitry under sad stimuli. The intrinsic model of emotional loops is built on the basis of Papez's circuit and related prior knowledge, and then three modulatory connection models are established. In these models, stimuli are placed at different points, which represents they affect the neural activities between brain regions, and these activities are modulated in different ways. Then, the optimal model is selected by Bayesian model comparison. From group analysis, patients' intrinsic and modulatory connections from the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) to the right inferior frontal gyrus (rlFG) are significantly higher than those of the control group. Then the functional connection parameters of the model are selected as classifier features. The classification accuracy rate from the support vector machine(SVM) classifier is 80.73%, which, to some extent, validates the effectiveness of the regional connectivity parameters for depression recognition and provides a new approach for the clinical diagnosis of depression. 展开更多

Magnetic flux density of the GMM actuator was practically measured under different input currents. The experiment of output displacement and frequency response of the GMM actuator was carried out under typical working conditions. The experiment results show that the GMA for nozzle flapper servo valve has bigger output displacement and quick response speed. And theoretical basis was presented to further introduce the GMA nozzle flapper valve into two stage electro-hydraulic servooo valve. 展开更多

The present exploration is conducted to describe the motion of viscous fluid embedded in squeezed channel under the applied magnetics effects.The processes of heat and mass transport incorporate the temperature-dependent binary chemical reaction with modified Arrhenius theory of activation energy function which is not yet disclosed for squeezing flow mechanism.The flow,heat and mass regime are exposed to be governed via dimensionless,highly non-linear,ordinary differential equations (ODEs) under no-slip walls boundary conditions.A well-tempered analytical convergent procedure is adopted for the solutions of boundary value problem.A detailed study is accounted through graphs in the form of flow velocity field,temperature and fluid concentration distributions for various emerging parameters of enormous interest.Skin-friction,Nusselt and Sherwood numbers have been acquired and disclosed through plots.The results indicate that fluid temperature follows an increasing trend with dominant dimensionless reaction rate σ and activation energy parameter E.However,an increment in σ and E parameters is found to decline in fluid concentration.The current study arises numerous engineering and industrial processes including polymer industry,compression and injection shaping,lubrication system,formation of paper sheets,thin fiber,molding of plastic sheets.In the area of chemical engineering,geothermal engineering,cooling of nuclear reacting,nuclear or chemical system,bimolecular reactions,biochemical process and electrically conducting polymeric flows can be controlled by utilizing magnetic fields.Motivated by such applications,the proposed study has been developed. 展开更多

SEM graphs show that coarse dendrite structure was broken up into a somewhat globular structure, and the morphology of eutectic silicon was changed from flaky to fibrous under electromagnetic vibration treatment. The dynamic mechanical properties of basalt affected by microwave were investigated by performing dynamic compressive tests using the SHPB system.Meanwhile,the thermal damage of the treated basalt was characterized by ultrasonic non-destructive testing and nuclear magnetic resonance technology.The results show that with the increase of microwave power and exposure time,the P-wave velocity,dynamic compressive strength and elastic modulus decrease continuously,and the dynamic failure mode tends to be a more complex fracturing.The increase in microwave power and exposure time can enhance the temperature difference and transfer coefficient among minerals,hence intensifying the rock damage induced by thermal shock. 展开更多

To obtain a good drivability and high efficiency of the micro-electric vehicle, a new driving in-wheel motor design was analyzed and optimized. Maxwell software was used to build finite element simulation model of the driving in-wheel motor. The basic features and starting process were analyzed by field-circuit coupled finite element method. The internal complicated magnetic field distribution and dynamic performance simulation were obtained in different positions. No-load and load characteristics of the driving in-wheel motor was simulated, and the power consumption of materials was computed. The conformity of the final simulation results with the experimental data indicates that this method can be used to provide a theoretical basis to make further optimal design of this new driving in-wheel motor and its control system, so as to improve the starting torque and reduce torque ripple of the motor. This method can shorten the development cycle of in-wheel motors and save development costs, which has a wide range of engineering application value. 展开更多

Rotating machines are very sensitive to mass unbalance which has a harmful effect on its running accuracy and service life. Therefore,a variety of dynamic balancing methods and devices are studied to reduce the vibration caused by mass unbalance. On-line active balancing is a new balancing procedure which is more convenient and precise than the previous methods. In this paper,an electromagnetic balancer based on ring coils and permanent magnets is presented. The balancer has a simple structure and the self-locking function without clutch,and transfers power by the non-contact electromagnetic field. In order to justify the rationality of its design,a two-dimension(2D) electromagnetic finite element model is conducted to verify that this magnetic circuit has no flux leakage and saturation. A three-dimension (3D) 1/10 model of the balancer is built to obtain the self-locking torque and driving torque. Based on the research work above,an electromagnetic balancer is developed. By testing the balancer using COCO80,it is verified effective to reduce the rotor unbalance at the speed of 1300 r/min. 展开更多

Beginning with the explicitly covariant Maxwell equations in media, we deduce an explicitly covariant stress-energy-momentum balance equation in material media. Proceeding in this way we avoid mixing external fields and self fields, as occurs if one begins with Lorentz's law, the most usual approach appearing in textbooks. Indeed our deduction implies a generalized force density in which the total fields appear. As an application of the present deduction, we discuss briefly the Abraham-Minkowski controversy, showing its relation to open or closed electromagnetic systems. This approach will be interesting for scholars as well as graduate students interested in conceptual problems of relativistic electromagnetism. 展开更多

A vibration energy harvester can harvest vibration energy in the environment and convert it into electrical energy to power the sensors in the Internet of Things.Human walking contains high-quality vibration energy,which serves as the energy source for vibration energy harvesters due to its abundant availability,high energy conversion efficiency,and environmental friendliness.It is difficult to harvest human walking vibration due to its low frequency.Converting the low-frequency vibration of human walking into high-frequency vibration has attracted attention.In previous studies,vibration energy harvesters typically increase frequency by raising excitation frequency or inducing free vibration.When walking frequency changes,the up-frequency method of raising the excitation frequency changes the voltage frequency,resulting in the best load resistance change and reducing the output power.The up-frequency method of inducing free vibration does not increase the external excitation frequency,which has relatively low output power.This paper designs a magnetostrictive vibration energy harvester with a rotating up-frequency structure.It consists of a rotating up-frequency structure,a magnetostrictive structure,coils,and bias magnets.The main body of the rotating up-frequency structure comprises a torsion bar and a flywheel with a dumbbell-shaped hole.The magnetostrictive structure includes four magnetostrictive metal sheets spliced by Galfenol and steel sheets.The torsion bar and flywheel interact to convert low-frequency linear vibration into rotating high-frequency excitation vibration of the flywheel.The flywheel plucks the magnetostrictive metal sheet with a high excitation frequency to generate free vibration.The vibration energy harvester increases the excitation frequency while inducing free vibration,which can effectively improve the output power.To characterize the excitation vibration and free vibration,based on the theory of Euler-Bernoulli beam theory,the vibration equation of the magnetostrictive metal sheet after being excited is given.According to the classical machine-magnetic coupling model and the Jiles-Atherton physical model,the relationship between stress and magnetization strength is derived.Combined with Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction,the distributed dynamic output voltage model is established.This model can predict the output voltage at different excitation frequencies.Based on this model,the mechanical-magnetic structural parameter optimization design is carried out.The parameters of the magnetostrictive metal sheet,the bias magnet,and the rotating up-frequency structure are determined.A comprehensive experimental system is established to test the device.The peak-to-peak voltage and output voltage signal by the proposed model are compared.The average relative deviation of the peak-to-peak voltage and the output voltage signal is 4.9%and 8.2%,respectively.The experimental results show that the output power is proportional to the excitation frequency.The optimum load resistance is always 800Ωas the excitation frequency changes,simplifying the impedance-matching process.The maximum peak-to-peak voltage of the device is 58.60 V,the maximum root mean square(RMS)voltage is 9.53 V,and the maximum RMS power is 56.20 mW.The magnetostrictive vibration energy harvester with a rotating up-frequency structure solves the problem of impedance matching,which improves the output power.The proposed distributed dynamic output voltage model can effectively predict the output characteristics.This study can provide structural and theoretical guidance for up-frequency structure vibration energy harvesters for human walking vibration. 展开更多

Under a vibration frequency of 14 Hz, the fabricated TENG can deliver an open-circuit voltage of about 84 V, a short-circuit current of 43 μA, and a maximum power of 1.2 mW (the corresponding power per unit mass and volume are 1.82 mW/g and 3.4 W/m^3, respectively) under a loading resistance of 2 MΩ, whereas the fabricated EMG can produce an opencircuit voltage of about 9.9 V, a short-circuit current of 7 mA, and a maximum power of 17.4 mW (the corresponding power per unit mass and volume are 0.53 mW/g and 3.7 W/m^3, respectively) under a loading resistance of 2 kΩ. Impedance matching between the TENG and EMG can be achieved using a transformer to decrease the impedance of the TENG. Moreover, the energy produced by the hybrid nanogenerator can be stored in a home-made Li-ion battery. This research represents important progress toward practical applications of vibration energy generation for realizing self-charging power cells. 展开更多
