And, developed curriculums introduced media awareness in schools. Continuously, the Grtinwald Declaration (1982) was the first to state the necessity of media education to promote ability of critical understanding. After dissemination of Internet, information and communication technologies were introduced into media education. And, media literacy and information literacy were intertwined as a MIL (Media and Information Literacy) in the Alexandria Proclamation (2005). Besides, the proclamation defined that information literacy and lifelong learning were the precondition of the information society. Featured importance of applied skill was explained by a disaster case that a girl saved 100 people when the Tsunami hit the coast in Phuket, 2004. Thus, the definition of MIL was frequently up-dated. On March 11 2011, we had a giant earthquake with the Tsunami: Tohoku region pacific coast earthquake. We observed severe damage even under our well prepared disaster prevention drill, earthquake-resistant construction, and communication networks. Through investigation, authors could select records of successful and unsuccessful cases concerning MIL. Then, this study aims to propose expecting what additional competency needs to be introduced in MIL. As a result, the authors could extract "Curation Literacy" that involved decision making process by a user.展开更多

Although there are some technological instruments structuring this work, the methods that have been used must have improvement to a better use. In this sense, IA (information architecture), as a process that helps users to manage and find information, can collaborate with the organization of this assets allowing the best identification and categorization of information, as well as providing improvements in the website navigation in Intranets and Internet. This article introduces part of a research that deals with the use of IA for developing and structuring the project of Dataprev about the content management for Brazilian social security system.展开更多

Firms often claim that their presence in social media (SM) is a key element to success. SM helps companies rethink the traditional one-way flow of their marketing messages and to incorporate a new interactive pattern into their communications. Nevertheless, these tendencies involve problems of strategic myopia for firms that do not structurally integrate these tools. One main problem is that institutions can rarely differentiate between the various types of SM and the attributes thereof, while the literature equally reveals a number of contradictions in the subject. The present conceptual paper lays the foundations of a strategic approach to SM and discusses its theoretical implications. Following an overview on the concept of SM, through a content analysis of the specialized management literature (n = 14), we present various best practices and reflect on the apparent lack of strategic thinking in using SM as a marketing application. Then, we compare these practical examples with general marketing strategy theory. By merging theory and practice, we aim to provide an insight towards a well-founded application of SM as a genuinely strategic marketing tool.展开更多

With the development of computer and the popularization of the Internet, everyone can become the creator and disseminator of music. At the same time of the concept and the mode of creation have changed, music dissemination way is to find a broader approach. This study tries to explore the popularity of the social media sites, the level of use of the social media sites, the types of information-sharing activities involved on the social media sites, to compare youth of various background in relation to information-sharing activities, and to analyze the relationship between the level of social media use and the information-sharing activities among youth. This study employs a quantitative research design, using survey method with questionnaire as the research instrument used for data collection. In this study, youth aged between 17-40 years old nationwide were surveyed. The study was developed based on the user and gratification theory (Blumler & Katz, 1974). Findings showed that youth always (five to seven days per week) use social media to share information including personal information. Results also showed that youth used the social media more for sharing negatively-oriented information compared to the positively-oriented information. Although there were more items on the positively-oriented information-sharing activities but more youth spent their time on the negatively-oriented information-sharing activities. The results are supported by a strong relationship between frequency of use and the negatively-oriented information-sharing activities.展开更多

This complexity provides the opportunity to evaluate the ecological and social conditions that favor the evolution of complex signaling. We investigated how the chemical signatures of three populations of the social paper wasp Polistes biglumis differed in terms of concentration of hydrocarbons, proportions of branched hydrocarbons and overall variation. We tested whether the variation in chemical signatures among populations could be explained by the prevalence of social parasites or whether this was just an effect of local abiotic conditions which influenced the composition of the hydrocarbon cuticular layer. We studied the chemical signa- ture in three populations in which obligate social parasites differed in the selection pressures they imposed on host populations. Within each population, we restricted our analyses to non-parasitized hosts, to avoid potential short-term effects of parasite pres- ence on the host chemical signatures. We found that host colonies in parasitized populations had more diverse profiles than the parasite-free population. Moreover, the overall concentration of hydrocarbons and the relative proportion of branched hydrocar- bons were larger in the parasitized populations, relative to the non-parasitized one. This is to our knowledge the first evidence in favour of the hypothesis that different traits in the host chemical signatures as a whole undergo evolutionary changes resulting from directional or balancing selection imposed by social parasites. We conclude that obligate social parasites act as 'engines of diversity' on host chemical signatures and operate in favor of a geographic mosaic of diverging communication codes展开更多
