As the most important ecosystem in Beijing, the forest supports a lot of ecosystem services to local and around communities, which plays a key role in the maintenance of urban ecological security.However, the valuatio...As the most important ecosystem in Beijing, the forest supports a lot of ecosystem services to local and around communities, which plays a key role in the maintenance of urban ecological security.However, the valuation on the forest ecosystem services based on regional scale could not provide precise and reasonable values for forestry sector management.In this study, we estimated the magnitudes and economic values of the forest ecosystem services in Beijing at sublot level.The economic value of forest ecosystem services in Beijing was estimated to be 19 339.71×10 6 yuan(RMB) in 2004.Among all the ecosystem services indicators we estimated in this study, only fruit, timber and part of the recreation(which only include the tourism income from the forest parks and scenic areas, but not include that from other forest types) were measured in the social economic system.As estimated in this study, more than 82.19% of the economic value of forest ecosystem services could not be measured in the socio-economic statistical system.The importance of forest ecosystem services in Beijing to human welfare was underestimated by the socio-economic system.Therefore, the policies about the eco-compensation of forest ecosystem services should be established to maintain the sustainable supply of the forest ecosystem services in Beijing.展开更多

One of the ongoing discussions in urban lake governance in India is th...Lakes have different social, economical, and ecological values at different periods of societal development, which make them vulnerable to change. One of the ongoing discussions in urban lake governance in India is the revitalization of the urban lakes. The core challenge documented in the governance of urban lakes is to address and find balance in the changing and competing value systems. Effectively addressing the change （or priority） in the values linked to the governance systems is a major step toward sustainability of the urban lakes. There is still limited understanding of how the values of urban lakes are progressively linked to the social, ecological and economic values of the urban developments. The paper looks at the interactions and outcomes of the spatial and temporal dynamics of the urban lakes systems especially the values that sustain the institutional and ecological memory. The focus is on the role of values in urban lake governance. The multitier framework for analyzing social-ecological systems CSES） which is in developmental phase at Elinor Ostrom＇s Workshop is used as the guiding framework to build understanding of the urban lake governance in Ahmedabad, India and at the same time contribute to the development of the SES framework.展开更多

Our attitudes and concepts in relation to the world should not stop at understanding and changing it; rather, they should be sublated into a new worldview through which we can scientifically understand and rationally improve the world. Only on the basis of this new worldview can we find a new focus and a new set of values, a new way of living and acting. ＂Beautiful China,＂ as a literary metaphor for the goal of constructing ecological civilization, vividly and fully expresses a completely new vision for socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics. The building of ecological civilization is a social scheme that needs to be based on clear, comprehensive, long-term and scientific ecological values, guided by ideas and regulated by institutions.
