Chromatism classification and edge detection are two difficult problems in glass steel surface quality inspection. Two artificial neural networks were made and the two problems were solved. The one solved chromatism classification. Hue, saturation and their probability of three colors, whose appearing probabilities were maximum in color histogram, were selected as input parameters, and the number of output node could be adjusted with the change of requirement. The other solved edge detection. In this neutral network, edge detection of gray scale image was able to be tested with trained neural networks for a binary image. It prevent the difficulty that the number of needed training samples was too large if gray scale images were directly regarded as training samples. This system is able to be applied to not only glass steel fault inspection but also other product online quality inspection and classification.展开更多
Images captured in rainy days suffer from noticeable degradation of scene visibility.Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs),as important outdoor image acquisition systems,demand a proper rain removal algorithm to improve visu...Images captured in rainy days suffer from noticeable degradation of scene visibility.Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs),as important outdoor image acquisition systems,demand a proper rain removal algorithm to improve visual perception quality of captured images as well as the performance of many subsequent computer vision applications.To deal with rain streaks of different sizes and directions,this paper proposes to employ convolutional kernels of different sizes in a multi-path structure.Split attention is leveraged to enable communication across multiscale paths at feature level,which allows adaptive receptive field to tackle complex situations.We incorporate the multi-path convolution and the split attention operation into the basic residual block without increasing the channels of feature maps.Moreover,every block in our network is unfolded four times to compress the network volume without sacrificing the deraining performance.The performance on various benchmark datasets demonstrates that our method outperforms state-of-the-art deraining algorithms in both numerical and qualitative comparisons.展开更多

It has been proven that BPNNs (back-propagation neural networks) have high attainable classification accuracy. However, there is a noticeable variation in the achieved accuracies due to different network designs and implementations. Hence, researchers usually need to conduct several experimental trials before they can finalize the network design. This is a time consuming process which significantly reduces the effectiveness of using BPNNs and the final design may still not be optimal. Therefore, there is a need to see whether there are some common guidelines for effective design and implementation of BPNNs. With this aim in mind, this paper attempts to find and summarize the common guidelines suggested by different authors through literature review and discussion of the findings. To provide readers with background and contextual information, some ANN fundamentals are also introduced.展开更多
Computer-aided diagnosis(CAD) systems have been proposed to assist radiologists in making diagnostic decisions by providing helpful information. As one of the most important sequences in prostate magnetic resonance im...Computer-aided diagnosis(CAD) systems have been proposed to assist radiologists in making diagnostic decisions by providing helpful information. As one of the most important sequences in prostate magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), image features from T2-weighted images(T2WI) were extracted and evaluated for the diagnostic performances by using CAD. We extracted 12 quantitative image features from prostate T2-weighted MR images. The importance of each feature in cancer identification was compared in the peripheral zone(PZ) and central gland(CG), respectively. The performance of the computer-aided diagnosis system supported by an artificial neural network was tested. With computer-aided analysis of T2-weighted images, many characteristic features with different diagnostic capabilities can be extracted. We discovered most of the features(10/12) had significant difference(P<0.01) between PCa and non-PCa in the PZ, while only five features(sum average, minimum value, standard deviation, 10 th percentile, and entropy) had significant difference in CG. CAD prediction by features from T2 w images can reach high accuracy and specificity while maintaining acceptable sensitivity. The outcome is convictive and helpful in medical diagnosis.展开更多
