Artificial neural network (ANN) and support vector machines (SVMs) combined with su- pervised learning algorithms, and k-means clustering (k-MC) combined with unsupervised techniques are employed to classify the three seizure phases. Different techniques to combine binary SVMs, namely One Vs One (OvO), One Vs All (OVA) and Binary Decision Tree (BDT), are employed for multiclass classification. Comparisons are performed with two traditional classification methods, namely, k-Nearest Neighbour (k- NN) and Naive Bayes classifier. It is concluded that SVM-based classifiers outperform the traditional ones in terms of recognition accuracy and robustness property when the original clinical data is distorted with noise. Furthermore, SVM-based classifier with OvO provides the highest recognition accuracy, whereas ANN-based classifier overtakes by demonstrating maximum accuracy in the presence of noise.展开更多

By combining a number of different Lyapunov functionals with S-procedure, some useful criteria of global asymptotic stability and global exponential stability of the equilibrium points of SNNMs were derived. These stability conditions were formulated as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). So global stability of the discrete-time BAM neural networks could be analyzed by using the stability results of the SNNMs. Compared to the existing stability analysis methods, the proposed approach is easy to implement, less conservative, and is applicable to other recurrent neural networks.展开更多

Odors compounds can act on the neuroendocrine system, neurotransmitters and neuromodulators, influencing psychological behavior as well as body function. The study was conducted in 20 individuals in each test to analyze the effects of essential oil inhalation on psychomotor performance in the healthy volunteers. Two tests were performed in the present study (1) SLCT (six letter cancellation test) and (2) DLST (digit letter substitution test). These tests were carded out for the assessment of psychopharmacological activity of essential oil of Rosa damascena Mill., in healthy young human individuals belonging to the age group 18 to 22 years. The results of the psychomotor performance test in healthy human individuals revealed that there was improvement in psychomotor functions.展开更多

Methods: The clinical, imaging and pathological data from 17 cases with PCNSL in our hospital from March 2006 to April 2009 were analyzed. The immunologic function test for all 17 cases was confirmed as normal. Four of them received stereotactie brain biopsy while the other patients were given full or partial resection. Fifteen of them were given both radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery. High-dose Methotrexate (HD-MTX) (2.0g/m2) was used via intravenous infusion once per week for three times. From week 4, patients began radiotherapy. Six cases with abnormal cerebrospinal fluid were given whole central nervous system radiotherapy, and 9 cases with normal cerebrospinal fluid were given only whole brain radiotherapy. Two of them were without any additional treatment after surgery. Sixteen of 17 cases were followed up for 9-48 months. Therapeutic efficacy, toxic and side effect were investigated. Results: Six cases, who were given HD-MTX chemotherapy and whole central nervous system radiotherapy, had grade 3 leukopenia, but other toxic and side effect above grade 3 were not observed. Two patients having no chemotherapy and radiotherapy recurred in one month, but there was only one recurred case in three months among 15 cases who had both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. One of them lost fellow-up. The 2-year survival rate was 69.2%. Conclusion: There is no specific clinical manifestation for PCNSL. The pathological examination is a reliable method to confirm PCNSL. Recurrence may occur after surgery alone, however, the combination of HD-MTX chemotherapy and radiotherapy is an effective and safe therapeutic option, which might improve the treatment efficiency and survival rate.展开更多

Methods Experimental glaucoma was induced unilaterally in 28 male Sprague-Dawley rats by ligating two episcleral veins. Intraocular pressure (10P) in rats was measured by a Goldmann applanation tonometer under 3 % pentobarbital sodium anesthesia. The optic nerve head and retinal vasculature were assessed by repeated fundus examinations. The amount of optic nerve axons was assessed by Image-Pro Plus image analysis system in a masked fashion. Results lOP without EVL was ( 19.21 ± 1.23) mmHg, whereas the EVL eyes gained about 1.8-fold higher 10P[ (33.96 ±2. 73) mmHg]after EVL immediately ( P 〈 0. 001 ). The elevated IOP gradually decreased over time. However, the differences were kept significant up to 8 weeks after EVL. The lOP was reduced to similar levels as contralateral eyes at 12 and 16 weeks after EVL. The glaucomatous optic nerve excavation appeared in EVL eyes at 8 weeks after EVL, and the optic nerve excavation enlarged gradually with the increasing post-operation time. The amount of optic nerve axons also significantly decreased in EVL eyes at 8 weeks after EVL, and the amount of axons decreased gradually with the increasing post-operation time. Conclusion Increase of lOP caused by EVL represents a useful and efficient model of experimental glaucoma in rats.展开更多

This paper presents performance analysis of Unified Power Flow Controller based on two axis theory. Based on this analysis, a new Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based controller has been proposed to improve the system performance. The controller rules are structured depending upon the relationship between series inserted voltage and the desired changes in real/reactive power flow in the power system. The effects of different controllers along with parameters of series transformer and transmission line have been investigated through developed control block model in SIMULINK tool box of MATLAB. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by case studies.展开更多

Methods Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), China Biology Medical(CBM) database, Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database(VIP), Wan Fang Data, Pubmed and Cochrane Library were retrieved to search the randomized controlled trials(RCT) on heat-sensitive moxibustion in treatment of CSR, and Meta analysis was conducted by applying Rev Man 5.3 software. Results Eventually, 10 papers were included in this study, including 1008 subjects. Meta analysis result showed: the total effective rate of treatment group was higher than that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant [RR=1.13, 95%CI(1.06, 1.21), Z=3.54, P=0.000 4]; the cure rate of treatment group was higher than that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant [RR=1.80, 95%CI(1.52, 2.13), Z=6.82, P〈0.000 01]; the improvement of short-form Mc Gill pain questionnaire(SF-MPQ) of treatment group was superior to that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant [MD=–4.44, 95%CI(–6.38,-2.50), Z=4.49, P〈0.000 01]; visual analogue scale(VAS) of treatment group was lower than that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant [MD=-0.36, 95%CI(-0.50, –0.23), Z=5.42, P〈0.00001]; and the improvement of interleukin-6(IL-6) of treatment group was superior to that of control group, and the difference was statistically significant [MD=–7.32, 95%CI(-11.49, –3.14), Z=3.44, P=0.000 6]. Conclusion It is indicated from the Meta analysis result that the clinical efficacy of heat-sensitive moxibustion or acupuncture combined with heat-sensitive moxibustion in treatment of CSR is superior to that of simple acupuncture or traditional suspended moxibustion, providing a new therapeutic method for treatment of CSR. However, the abovementioned conclusion still needs to be confirmed through randomized blind controlled trials with high quality and large sample size since the sample size of included studies was small, and the quality was low.展开更多

The results of meta-analysis showed that: (1) the total effective rate ofperipheral nerve injury treatment in mNGF group was obviously higher than that in control group (OR=6.36, 95% C1 4.96-8.15, P〈0.01); (2) the scores of activities of daily living (ADL) in mNGF group was significantly higher than that in control group (weighted mean difference=1.97, 95% CI 1.33- 2.61, P〈 0.0 l); (3) the incidence of adverse reaction in mNGF group was higher than that in control group, (OR= 1.66, 95% CI 1.61-2.38, P=0.006), but the adverse effects were mild, which could be relieved without specific treatment or just given symptomatic treatment, and disappeared at the end of treatment. Conclusions: The mNGF therapy is effective for peripheral nerve injury. It can obviously improve patient's ADL. Though the incidence of adverse reaction in mNGF treatment group is higher than that in control group, this does not influence the treatment outcomes.展开更多
