Cellular networks are overloaded due to the mobile traffic surge, and mobile social networks(MSNets) can be leveraged for traffic offloading. In this paper,we study the issue of choosing seed users for maximizing the mobile traffic offloaded from cellular networks. We introduce a gossip-style social cascade(GSC) model to model the epidemic-like information diffusion process in MSNets. For static-case and mobile-case networks,we establish an equivalent view and a temporal mapping of the information diffusion process, respectively. We further prove the submodularity in the information diffusion and propose a greedy algorithm to choose the seed users for traffic offloading, yielding a sub-optimal solution to the NP-hard traffic offloading maximization(TOM) problem.Experiments are carried out to study the offloading performance, illustrating that the greedy algorithm significantly outperforms the heuristic and random algorithms, and user mobility can help further reduce cellular load. 展开更多

The characteristics of interaction tone noise radiated from a centrifugal compressor with a vaned diffuser are discussed by experiments, including visualization techniques using the oil-film method. Research attention is paid to the leading edge geometries of the diffuser vanes that are deeply related to the generation mechanism of the interaction tone noise. The compressor-radiated noise can be reduced by several decibels by setting some clearances in both the hub and shroud surfaces of the diffuser wall along with some decline in the pressure-rise coefficient. Since the decline turned out to be caused by the flow impingement and also by the secondary flow within the diffuser passages, several new types of diffuser vane geometries which do not detract from both the performance and noise level are developed and utilized for the experiments. The presented diffuser vane geometries will offer a few basic guidelines for the diffuser vane design. 展开更多

The average-passage equation system(APES)provides a rigorous framework to account for the deterministic unsteady effects by the so-called deterministic correlations(DC),which include both deterministic stress correlations(DCS)and deterministic total enthalpy correlations(DCH).These correlations should be modeled to close the system of equations. In this paper, the distribution of DC in a transonic centrifugal compressor is presented, and its relative importance is revealed. The assumption made by Adamczyk that the pure unsteady fluctuation is significantly smaller than the spatial fluctuation is verified at the impeller-diffuser interface. The decomposition of DCH is also discussed to determine its two different physical mechanisms. Finally, the transport equations in terms of DCS in cylindrical coordinates are derived, and the terms are evaluated to determine the ones that are necessary to model. All these analyses significantly contribute to our model development for DC in centrifugal compressors. 展开更多

The present paper reports the results of experimental investigations on the effect of diffuser vane shape on the performance of a centrifugal compressor stage. These studies were conducted on the chosen stage having a back- ward curved impeller of 500 turn tip diameter and 24.5 mm width and its design flow coefficient is Фd=0.0535. Three different low solidity diffuser vane shapes namely uncarnbered aerofoil, constant thickness flat plate and circular arc cambered constant thickness plate were chosen as the variants for diffuser vane shape and all the three shapes have the same thickness to chord ratio (t/c=0.1). Flow coefficient, polytropic efficiency, total head coeffi- cient, power coefficient and static pressure recovery coefficient were chosen as the parameters for evaluating the effect of diffuser vane shape on the stage performance. The results show that there is reasonable improvement in stage efficiency and total head coefficient with the use of the chosen diffuser vane shapes as compared to conven- tional vaneless diffuser. It is also noticed that the aero foil shaped LSD has shown better performance when com- pared to flat plate and circular arc profiles. The aerofoil vane shape of the diffuser blade is seen to be tolerant over a considerable range of incidence. 展开更多

A numerical investigation on the aerodynamic effects of impeller-diffuser axial misalignment in the low-flow-coefficient centrifugal compressor is conducted through three-dimensional CFD analysis. The results show that the flow, especially near the diffuser inlet,is influenced by the axial misalignment obviously. When the impeller offsets to one side, the pressure at diffuser inlet close to this side will descend, and the vortex in the cavity on the other side will partially enter the diffuser and then result in the back flow. The performances of the stage and its components also change with the impeller-diffuser axial misalignment. There exists an optimum offset making the efficiency maximum at a given operating point.Furthermore, the effect of impeller-diffuser axial misalignment on the axial thrust is pronounced. The axial thrust is nearly increased linearly with the increase of axial misalignment. The aerodynamic effects of impeller-diffuser axial misalignment in the low-flow-coefficient centrifugal compressor behaves more remarkably at the large flow rate.To alleviate the aerodynamic effects of impeller-diffuser misalignment,a rounding in the meridional plane at the diffuser inlet can be applied. 展开更多

According to the previous experimental works on the low solidity circular cascade diffuser (LSD), a pressure recovery of a centrifugal blower was improved by the LSD significantly in a wide range of flow rate, and the pres-sure recovery was improved further by the LSD with a tandem cascade in comparison with the LSD with a sin-gle-row cascade. In the present study, the flow behavior in the LSD with the tandem cascade has been analyzed numerically by using the commercial CFD code of ANSYS-CFX12. It was shown clearly that the higher pressure recovery was achieved by applying the LSD with the tandem cascade, and the high pressure recovery is based on the high pressure rise in the vaneless space upstream of the LSD and the high blade loading of the front blade of the LSD. The high pressure recovery in the LSD could be achieved by controlling the flow separation on the suc-tion surface of the front blade and also on that of the rear blade due to formation of the favorable secondary flow and due to increase in mass flow passing through the slit section between the front and rear blades. 展开更多

Three vaned diffusers, designed to have high negative incidence (-8°) at the design operating point, are studied experimentally. The overall performance (efficiency and pressure ratio) are measured at three rotational speeds, and flow angles before and after the diffuser are measured at the design rotational speed and with three mass flow rates. The results are compared to corresponding results of the original vaneless diffuser design. Attention is paid to the performance at lower mass flows than the design mass flow. The results show that it is possible to improve the performance at mass flows lower than the design mass flow with a vaned diffuser designed with high negative incidence. However, with the vaned diffusers, the compressor still stalls at higher mass flow rates than with the vaneless one. The flow angle distributions after the diffuser are more uniform with the vaned diffusers. 展开更多

Two examples of the use of vortex control to reduce noise and enhance the stable operating range of a centrifugal compressor are presented in this paper. In the case of high-flow operation of a centrifugal compressor with a vaned diffuser,a discrete frequency noise induced by interaction between the impeller-discharge flow and the diffuser vane, which appears most notably in the power spectra of the radiated noise, can be reduced using a tapered diffuser vane(TDV) without affecting the performance of the compressor.Twin longitudinal vortices produced by leakage flow passing through the tapered portion of the diffuser vane induce secondary flow in the direction of the blade surface and prevent flow separation from the leading edge of the diffuser. The use of a TDV can effectively reduce both the discrete frequency noise generated by the interaction between the impeller-discharge flow and the diffuser surface and the broadband turbulent noise component. In the case of low-flow operation,a leading-edge vortex(LEV) that forms on the shroud side of the suction surface near the leading edge of the diffuser increases significantly in size and blocks flow in the diffuser passage. The formation of an LEV may adversely affect the performance of the compressor and may cause the diffuser to stall.Using a one-side tapered diffuser vane to suppress the evolution of an LEV,the stable operating range of the compressor can be increased by more than 12 percent, and the pressure-rise characteristics of the compressor can be improved. The results of a supplementary examination of the structure and unsteady behavior of LEVs,conducted by means of detailed numerical simulations, are also presented. 展开更多

Improvement of surge margin and reduction of interaction tone noise radiated from a centrifugal compressor with a vaned diffuser is discussed from experiments and CFD analyses. Two types of one-side tapered diffuser vanes, which are shroud-and hub-side tapered vanes, were used in the experiments. The height of the leading edge of the tapered vanes varied from 100% to 10%.Both types of tapered vanes are effective for the reduction of the interaction tone noise radiated from the compressor, because of the smaller interaction area between impeller-discharge flow and diffuser vane surface.Especially, the hub-side tapered diffuser vane suppresses the evolution of the leading-edge vortex, which causes reverse-flow in the diffuser passage.Furthermore, the hub-side tapered diffuser vane, which has an optimized diffuser leading edge shape, can improve the compressor pressure-rise characteristics at low-flow operation and can enlarge the surge margin. 展开更多

The characteristics of a rotating stall of an impeller and diffuser and the evolution of a vortex generated at the diffuser leading-edge(i.e., the leading-edge vortex(LEV)) in a centrifugal compressor were investigated by experiments and numerical analysis. The results of the experiments revealed that both the impeller and diffuser rotating stalls occurred at 55 and 25 Hz during off-design flow operation. For both, stall cells existed only on the shroud side of the flow passages, which is very close to the source location of the LEV. According to the CFD results, the LEV is made up of multiple vortices. The LEV is a combination of a separated vortex near the leading-edge and a longitudinal vortex generated by the extended tip-leakage flow from the impeller. Therefore, the LEV is generated by the accumulation of vorticity caused by the velocity gradient of the impeller discharge flow. In partial-flow operation, the spanwise extent and the position of the LEV origin are temporarily transmuted. The LEV develops with a drop in the velocity in the diffuser passage and forms a significant blockage within the diffuser passage. Therefore, the LEV may be regarded as being one of the causes of a diffuser stall in a centrifugal compressor. 展开更多
