It investigates the relationship between a lack of music in educational films and its effect on film evaluation and interest gain in educational film topics. Results of the presented study raise the assumption of a need for music as central characteristic of learners related to the effects of educational science films: Basically, it shows that the evaluation of educational films is based on emotional as well as on factual criteria and that both dimensions are positively related to the interest of learners in the film content. Further it shows that learners with need for music, compared to their classmates that do not state a need for music, exhibit a significant worse evaluation on the film factual characteristics and a reduced class performance, as measured by reduced interest in the film topic, the research area and the motivation to carry out follow-up research on the topic. Implications are discussed.展开更多

We believe that computer games are no longer the domain of a small group of enthusiasts. In recent years, this kind of entertainment has became a global phenomenon, which is reflected both on professional and scientific levels. This study focuses on in-game advertising possibilities, identification, function, and logic in the NFS computer game series. We conduct a content analysis of three releases of NFS to identify its use for promotional purposes in real terms.展开更多

The risk of developing esophageal motility disorders, including achalasia, following bariatric surgery is controversial and differs based on the type of surgery. Most of the reported cases occurred with laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding. To our knowledge, there are only three reported cases of achalasia after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and no reported cases after revision of the surgery. We present a case of a 70-year-old female who had a previous history of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass with revision. She presented with persistent nausea and regurgitation for one month. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy showed a dilated esophagus without strictures or stenosis. A barium study was performed after the endoscopy and was suggestive of achalasia. Those findings were confirmed by a manometry. The patient was referred for laparoscopic Heller's myotomy.展开更多

Music education is presented in the relationship of the two main areas: science and education. There is evidence of a gradual expansion and changes in the content and methods of the science of music. The 21st century rapidly and dynamically entered in our lives in terms of the development of information communication, technological progress and unprecedented rise of scientific thought. Social upheavals of this period of history, a powerful wave of liberation movements have caused an unprecedented intensification of national creative forces committed to the development, expansion of contacts, attached to the other cultures. To date, the science of music has evolved so much on what grew out of it and separated into clearly separate spheres with their problems, trends, directions: music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, musical philosophy, and also music source studying. And it should be noted that each of these areas has its embodiment in materialized form of faculties, departments in the conservatory. Development of new standards, new plans, programs, new courses is a related process of development of these sciences in general.展开更多

Using interdisciplinary methods, present paper touches the case of Armenian monodic music. Through analysis of song types (concerning labour, funeral, wedding, belief, worship, magic, mythology, epic, and dance), music representatives, music performance places, and musical instruments, an attempt is made to consider the phenomenon within certain temporal borders. It turns out that the folk and folk-professional realistic music is simple and static in its essence and includes the invariant component of local culture, going back to the period of formation of early farming communities. Meanwhile with emerging social complexity since the Bronze Age, new and various forms of musical performance come to existence.展开更多
