There is an increasing demand on wireless communications in subway tunnels to provide video surveillance and sensory data for security,maintenance and train control,and to offer various communication or entertainment services(e.g.,Internet,etc.) to passengers as well.The wireless channel in tunnels is quite unique due to the confined space and the waveguide effects.Therefore,modeling the radio channel characteristics in tunnels is critically important for communication systems design or optimization.This paper investigates the key radio channel characteristics of a subway tunnel at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz,such as the path loss,root mean square(RMS) delay spread,channel stationarity,Doppler shift,and channel capacity.The field measurements show that channel characteristics in tunnels are highly location-dependent and there exist abundant components in Doppler shift domain.In the straight section of the subway tunnel,the measured path loss exponents are close to1.6,lower than that in free space. 展开更多

Since the lower power requirement of code division multiple access(CDMA) than that of other multiple access, the CDMA technology is suitable to be used in low earth orbit(LEO) satellite communication system whose space power is limited due to the small size of satellite. The pilot channel of CDMA technology is very important for earth mobile station(EMS) in LEO system to recover carrier and code, but the power requirement of pilot channel is very higher than that of other channels. In this paper, a power reduction method for pilot channel is proposed. By the new method, the power of pilot channel transmitted from LEO satellite is reduced to a lower level. For improving the signal to noise ratio(SNR) of pilot channel with lower power, coherent integration is employed in EMS at the pre-processing stage. Considering the high dynamic situation of LEO satellite, the long period of time for integration will deteriorate the receiving performance of EMS, therefore, a dynamic compensation module is added to carrier tracking loop against the high dynamic. Meanwhile, the transfer function of the new tracking loop and the condition for steadystate zero error are deduced. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

Train-to-train(T2T)communication can provide protection for existing train-to-ground private network communication,and its channel characteristics directly affect the application of upper-layer communication technologies.In this study,based on the spatial distribution structure of railway operation scenarios and Fresnel zone theory,we propose a frequency allocation scheme for direct communication between tracking trains in flatland and long straight tunnel scenario.Then we use the estimation method of radio wave attenuation caused by rainfall to analyze the large-scale path loss fading of multi-band wireless channels.Furthermore,we derive the calculation equation of max Doppler frequency shift suitable for T2T communication and describe the multipath wave in the tunnel by ray tracing method to analyze small-scale fading.Simulation analysis shows that the Doppler shift value of T2T communication low frequency band is significantly lower than the frequency shift value of the train-to-ground communication under the same speed conditions. 展开更多

The major constraint on the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based underwater acoustic (UWA) communication is to keep subcarriers orthogonal. In this paper, Doppler estimation and the respective compensation technique along with various diversity techniques were deliberated for OFDM-based systems best suited for underwater wireless information exchange. In practice, for mobile communication, adjustment and tuning of transducers in order to get spatial diversity is extremely difficult. Considering the relatively low coherence bandwidth in UWA, the frequency diversity design with the Doppler compensation function was elaborated here. The outfield experiments of mobile underwater acoustic communication (UWAC) based on OFDM were carried out with 0.17 bit/(s-Hz) spectral efficiency. This paper investigates Carrier Frequency Offset (CFO) estimation in the uplink of the Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) systems with the interleaved subcarrier assignment. CFOs between the transmitters and the uplink receiver will destroy orthogonality among different subcarriers, hence resulting in inter-carrier interference and multiuser interference. A two-stage frequency offset estimation algorithm based on subspace processing is proposed. The main advantage of the proposed method is that it can obtain the CFOs of all users simultaneously using only one OFDMA block. Compared with the previously known methods, it not only has a relatively low implementation complexity but is also suitable for random subchannel assignment. 展开更多

Constellation mapping has provided a great convenience to measure the performance of digital signal modulation in Euclid space. However, traditional in-phase and quadrature(IQ) plane is difficult to express the frequency modulation scheme such as minimum shift keying(MSK) and the time domain modulation such as cyclic code shift keying(CCSK). How to represent the digital signal modulation visually through constellation mapping is an attractive problem. To address this issue, in this paper, the combined frequency and phase modulation are utilized to define a new kind of constellation mapping, where the phase and frequency are quantized to the same elements. The uniform geometric construction for combined phase and frequency modulation is redefined in the 3D cylindrical coordinate system based on frequency(f), in-phase component(I) and quadrature component(Q). In the new coordinates, the quadrature frequency-phase shift keying(QFPSK) is produced by the QPSK with dimensional rotation matrix and denoted by the reduced dual quaternion. Furthermore, the spatial extension from QFPSK to chirp cyclic shift keying(Chirp CSK) is analyzed with bandwidth efficiency and energy efficiency. At last, the QFPSK is combined with the 2D OFDM, yielding the image OFDM system.Experimental results verify the effectiveness of QFPSK in the proposed system with the time-varying wireless channel and frequency selective fading channel respectively. 展开更多
