Based on the poverty monitoring survey data between 2006...Initially intended to prevent water and soil erosion, China＇s Grain-for-Green Project （GGP） also has had economic impacts on farmers＇incorne and employment. Based on the poverty monitoring survey data between 2006-2010 from National Bureau of Statistics （NBS）, this paper evaluates the GGP＇s policy effects with respect to farmers＇ income, non-agricultural employment and poverty alleviation. Our findings suggest that contributing to the GGP, farmers＇ income including GGP subsidies increased significantly compared with the pre-GGP level,＂ however, if GGP subsidies are not taken into account, the increase in farmers＇non-agricultural income after the GGP could only compensate.for the income losses from farmland reduction, showing an insignificant effect. Second, there exist significant differences on employment tendency among GGP households. High-income households tend to engage in operation business in forestry, livestock and fishery activities, while medium-income families are more inclined to seek employment outside, and the differences attribute to the inter-group intrinsic characteristics. Lastly, the GGP＇s poverty alleviation effect varies with the difference in poverty standard. Overall the GGP＇s poverty alleviation effect is significant.展开更多

Existing state systems, political parties and nation states are not adequate for solving these problems in question effectively on their own. Not only governments and local authorities but also voluntary organizations based on completely voluntary activities have significant roles in solving these problems. Effective performance of voluntary organizations depends on increasing volunteer population. Individuals＇ attitudes or their perception of understanding volunteerism play an important role in their contributions to voluntary organizations. The aim of this study is to determine individuals＇ ways of perceiving volunteerism concept and their tendency towards it. Furthermore, differences between men and women＇s perception and attitudes towards volunteerism concept have been examined. For this purpose, a survey has been conducted over university students of bachelor＇s degree. Tendencies and attitudes towards volunteerism compared to gender differences have been tested via logistic regression method. Research results reveal that women take part in voluntary activities more than men and women perceive volunteerism as ＂a political position＂ while men perceive volunteerism as ＂a learning atmosphere and learning process＂.展开更多

The article talks about difficulties caused by the great unemployment connected with the specific economy of the country, political problems of the post-socialistic multinational country and steps done towards the fulfilling of all the convergence criteria. Its aim is to present the moments around the change of the currency which is done by the material＇s analysis because there are not enough statistical data for the mathematical analysis. It can be concluded that the adoption of the euro will probably be beneficial in the long run for Latvia＇s economy. The conclusions may be done by comparison with the situation of Estonia and its foreign trade with Poland which is shown in the article because there are a lot of similarities between the two Baltic countries.展开更多

If the injustice still exists after all the judicial proceedings are taken, then, this act that has nonviolence as its fundamental philosophy is seen to take place. The most important representatives of civil disobedience in the world are Socrates, Henry David Thoreau, M. Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi. These thinkers with their discourses and actions put forth what constitutes as civil disobedience and set an example to other societies. In this study, firstly, the aforementioned notion of civil disobedience is explained. Then, some demonstrations that took place in Turkey are evaluated in the framework of civil disobedience. The aim is to determine whether or not these demonstrations can be considered as examples of ＂civil disobedience＂. Also, the reasons why some of these demonstrations are not in the scope of civil disobedience are discussed. In this study, depiction and historical methods are used.展开更多

After the independence of Haiti （1804） and at its initial stage, the Sovereign Junta in Quito, founded in 1809, took action together with the revolutionary movements of Chuquisaca and La Paz. Controlled, its members persecuted and finally killed, the Revolution of Quito passed from a loyalty to an independence movement which resulted in the creation of the new State of Quito. The defeat of the Revolution of Quito restored the old regime. In the middle of this process, the threat of the Holy Alliance, which was born at the Congress of Vienna （1814-1815）, has particular significance for Quito and Latin America as it was the third attempt of a Spanish conquest The celebrations of the bicentenaries of the independence of Latin American countries have given a reason to value the concepts which the region developed during its anticolonial struggle, the first of its kind in the world and at the dawn of capitalism. G. W. F. Hegel always perceived Latin America as an ＂echo of a foreign Life＂. He never understood nor visited Latin America. He could not understand that another ＂spirit of the people＂ existed here which did not have a place in his elaborate universal history. And as has happened in the past, today Latin America is once again a pioneering region when it comes to setting the foundations for what should become its second independence, an idea which has been revived by the Latin American governments associated with the New Left.展开更多

Since the ecological environment became worse in recent decades, Qinghai government conducted an environmental migration project to move the herdsman out of Sanjiangyuan Area to protect the environment. Using the data we collected in five environmental migration resettlement villages in 2009 and the basic information of the nonmigrants, this paper calculated the index of migration differences to examine the selectivity between migrants and nonmigrants. To control these vibrations,we improved the energy balance method in the following aspects:the wind power input,the conductor self-damping,and the damper dissipated power. Meanwhile,we built a theoretical mechanical model of β wire dampers and derived energy dissipation calculation formulae. This permits the vibration energy dissipated by β wire dampers can be considered in the energy balance method. Then,we developed a computer program based on the improved energy balance method using Matlab,and analyzed UHV long span ground wires of the Han River long span project in P. R. China. The results show that the combination of β wire dampers and Stockbridge dampers can reduce vibration of UHV long span transmission lines,which provides a reference for research and construction of UHV engineering projects.展开更多
