Their mesostructural stability under different carbon content, aging time and acidity were conveniently monitored by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and N2 sorption isotherms techniques. The results show mesostruetural stability of OMCs is enhanced as the carbon content increases from 36% to 46%, further increasing carbon content deteriorates the mesostructural stability. Increasing aging time from 0.5 h to 5.0 h make the mesostructural stability go through an optimum (2.0 h) and gradually reduce framework shrinkage of the OMCs. Highly OMCs can only be obtained in the acidity range of 0.2-1.2 mol/L HC1, when the acidity is near the isoelectrie point of silica, the resulting OMCs have the best mesostructure stability. Under the optimum condition, the carbon content of 46%, aging time of 2.0 h, and 0.2 mol/L HCl, the resulting OMCs have the best mesostrueture stability and the highest BET surface areas of 2281 m2/g.展开更多

Application of N, P and K significantly increased water stable aggregates and had profound effects in increasing the mean weight diameter as well as the formation of macro-aggregates, which were highest in both surface (81%) and subsurface (74%) soil layers with application of 100 kg N + 22 kg P2O5 + 41 kg K2O ha^-1 (N100P22K41). The N100P22K41 treatment also enhanced total organic C (TOC) from 4.4 g kg^-1 in no-NPK control to 4.8 g kg^-1in surface layer and from 3.3 to 4.1 g kg1 in subsurface layer leading to the 20% higher TOC stocks in 0-15 cm soil. The labile C and N fractions such as water soluble C, particulate and light fraction organic matter, potentially mineralizable N and microbial biomass were also highest under the optimized balanced application of N100P22K41. Relatively higher increase in all labile fractions of C and N as proportion of TOC and total N, respectively suggested that these are potential indicators to reflect changes in management practices long before changes in TOC and TN are detectable. These results demonstrated that optimized balanced application of N, P and K is crucial for improving soil health ensuring long-term sustainability of farming systems in semiarid subtropical soils.展开更多

Thus, their stability is of crucial importance during the life of a mine plan. Many Canadian mines use longhole mining methods or one of its variants. These methods require access to the orebody through haulage drifts on multiple levels. This paper examines the stability of mine haulage drifts with respect to planned mining sequence. A case study of an underground mine is presented. The case study examines # l Shear East of the Garson Mine in Sudbury, Ontario. A two-dimensional, elastoplastic, finite difference model (FLAC 2D) is developed for a haulage drift situated 1.5 km below surface in the footwall of the orebody. The stability of the haulage drift is evaluated in terms of the spread of yield zones into the rockmass due to nearby mining activities. The performance of the drift stability is evaluated at various mining stages, employing the RMC (Random Monte-Carlo) technique in conjunction with finite difference modeling to study the probability of unsatisfactory performance of the drift. The results are presented and categorized with respect to probability, instability and mining stage.展开更多

The ferroelectric poling induces a significant reduction in the biaxial tensile strain in the LHMO film, leading to a decrease in the film resistance over the whole temperature range and an increase in the insulator to metal transition temperature TIM. The resistance of LHMO film exhibits different responses to the external electric fields and lattice deformation, which is attributed to the coactions of con- verse piezoelectric effect and ferroelectric polarity effect. The modification of charge/orbital ordering phase by the electric fields and ferroelectric polarization suggests that the unstable states in the manganites are sensitive to strain effects.展开更多

For solving flow and heat problems by using finite element method, the stabilization technologies and fraction-step methods are adopted to overcome the numerical difficul- ties caused mainly due to the dominated convection. A couple of benchmark problems are given in this paper as examples to illustrate the usage and the superiority of the automatic program generation technique, including the flow in a lid-driven cavity, the starting flow in a circular pipe, the natural convection in a square cavity, and the flow past a circular cylinder, etc. They are also shown as the verification of the algorithms.展开更多
