At the end of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century, Vietnamese literature witnessed unprecedented innovations in the aesthetic thinking of writers and the narrative structure of their works. One of the most interesting manifestations of this new movement was not merely the introduction of new aesthetic materials and factors, but the adoption and positive "reprocessing" of traditional factors---especially historical factors and folk narrative factors. Based on intertextual theory, we would like to address the strong penetration, reproduction, and transformation of some folk storytelling models and historical materials in Vietnamese literature since 1986. Two corresponding phenomena we examine are "historical rewriting" and "alternative fairy tales"--as part of the whole process of incredulity towards grand narratives and postmodernism in the contemporary Vietnamese prose. 展开更多

The aim of the article is to connect the model of cognitive metonymy with the model of types of denotative equivalence highlighting the explanatory potential of the model of cognitive metonymy for describing and clarifying the use and occurrence of word equivalents in the English translations of the Brothers' Grimm fairy tales by Margaret Taylor (1914) and Jack Zipes (1987). The Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm (GFT) can be seen in a wide sense as a source of the history of culture and social life in the German speaking countries of the nineteenth century. Culture-bound words refer to a special cultural knowledge, which is in a historical sense not or not completely compatible with the structure of knowledge in our present days, and refer to a common cultural knowledge of the community of German speaking countries as well. This article describes the ways of using English equivalents in the translations of the GFT including lexical and cognitive procedures, which stand behind the use of certain equivalents. This leads to the theoretical question: Is it possible to extend the model of denotative equivalence using features of conceptual metonymy in rendering culture-bound words in the target texts? Investigating this, there can be established modifications in the theory of conceptual metonymy in the framework of cognitive linguistics. 展开更多

This paper intends to perform an analysis of the academic production of the National University of Cordoba from the late 19th century to the middle of the 20th century that deals with the problem of the illegitimate, abandoned, delinquent childhood, from a critical approach of the racism theory. One of the displacements this category underwent during the passed century is that it went beyond the field of race and it included women and young people. This aspect involves the discrimination of poor children that have been confined to the place of the "other". Racist characters can be traced in the discursive political practices that have created the category of childhood, being plausible to successfully perform this task by considering as the object of analysis of the theses and dissertations that discuss this subject matter in Cdrdoba. The paper will try to reconstruct the voices that, due to the sense of social belonging of the actors, refer to a certain class ideology. This provides a study of the constitution of the Argentine ruling elite, when the problem of social control, or the "social matter", was placed in the middle of all speculations. Analyzing both the characteristics of the discursive racism of the Argentine elite and the complex process of inferiorization of childhood that the discursive racism entails will allow to establish categories for an analysis of modern racism. In this way, elements to counteract the practices of domination will be presented. In order to do this, it is necessary to historicize them, reconstructing the discourses that support them and allow their continuity, since they persist in their functionality. 展开更多

Objective:This study provides a preliminary evaluation of the usability and acceptability of a mobile application(sexual assault care algorithm,SACA).Methods:An explanatory sequential mixed methods research was used.A quantitative survey was followed up by a qualitative study.A convenience sample of participants(n=4)was recruited. The research was conducted on a one-on-one basis. In the quantitative phase,a random assignment technique was used to divide four participants into two groups of two participants each.Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire(PSSUQ)and Acceptability e-Scale were used to collect quantitative data.In the qualitative phase, interview, observation, and documentation were used to collect qualitative data.Data were analyzed both quantitative and qualitatively. The qualitative data were linked with the initial quantitative data to determine how the follow-up qualitative data helped explain the initial quantitative results. Results:The quantitative results suggested that SACA has high usability(5.05±1.83)and acceptability(3.81±1.22).The qualitative results further indicate that the participants thought SACA was easy to use and useful, and most of them would recommend it to others.Areas of improvement include adding features that would calculate and validate the elapsed time since the sexual assault, adding explanations to some buttons, and providing training. Conclusions:Our findings highlight the value of using a mixed methods research design to conduct a usability and acceptability test.Nurses are more likely to adopt a new technology for their evidencebased practice when the technology is easy to use and useful and requires less time to find the right piece of guideline evidence.Individualized training needs to be designed based on users'characteristics. 展开更多

Ancient Greece having survived uninterruptedly through centuries, consists an incontestably cultural capital of overriding importance for the global community and especially for Greece itself. Mythical elements usually become frameworks or structures, in which Greek literary tradition encodes Greek national virtues and promotes nationalistic goals. On the other hand, myth's adaptations to different chrono-topes generate diversified cultural reception, adjusted to the era and the audience's expectations. The mythical figures are constantly invested in different conceptual schemata, which correspond to the altered way of thinking. Myth is also usually embedded in or underlies fantasy genre, which becomes a vehicle for utterances on women's rights. In this paper, we are going to examine closely three "fantasy" novels for children with mythical intertextual elements: The Fortunate lsles (1989), Torch (1987), and Sirena (1998), whose plot takes place in Greece and we will try to explore: (1) how is Greekness being perceived and presented; and (2) how is female identity being introjected or depicted, in order to find out if the subversive potential of the fantasy genre reworks and rationalizes femininity and Greekness, which have for so long been exploited by the patriarchal or nationalistic status quo. 展开更多

The paper examines how the British woman writer Angela Carter rewrites Charles Perrault's household fairy tale--"Little Red Riding Hood" in her short story--"The Company of Wolves." This paper attempts to analyze the two distinctive narrative strategies--re-characterization and second-person narration, skillfully deployed by Carter in order to rewrite Perrault' s classic tale into a feminist story. In Carter's version, Little Red Riding Hood is represented as a witty new woman who embraces her own sexuality and regards herself as a subject rather than an object. Through the transposition between reader and character, Carter's tale produces a new subject position for readers, particularly for young female readers. 展开更多

Childhood is a critical period for language development, and it is of great importance to discover normal language development and any specific language impairment (SLI) in child language acquisition and then to give them timely diagnosis and treatment. Also it has been previously shown that the non-word repetition task is an efficient assessment tool to screen out those children suspected with SLI. Based on this premise, the present study examined whether the non-word repetition task can be a suitable screening tool to detect language disorders for preschool children in Mandarin Chinese in China. A non-word repetition task was adapted specifically for this purpose. This study examined differences in non-word repetition performance of Mandarin-speaking preschool children screened by a criterion-referenced diagnostic test of specific language impairment (SLI) (the value of Cronbach Alpha at 0.86). A sample of 282 children were administered the diagnostic test, and a total of 23 SLI suspects were screened out as their language ability measures deviated from the mean by 1.5 SDs. Results indicated that children with SLI made no error with respect to tone in Mandarin, but they showed great difficulty in non-word repetition skills compared to age-matched controls. The findings confirmed that the non-word repetition task is a culturally nonbiased index of language disorders, and that two syllable non-words can be used to identify language disorder. 展开更多
