Optimizing the performance of cloud storage is very important for Internet development. This paper presents the performance evaluation of the open source distributed storage system, a highly available, distributed, eventually consistent object/blob store from Open Stack cloud computing components. This paper mainly focuses on the mechanism of cloud storage as well as the optimization methods to process different sized files. This work provides two major contributions through comprehensive performance evaluations. First, it provides different configurations for Open Stack Swift system and an analysis of how every component affects the performance. Second, it presents the detailed optimization methods to improve the performance in processing different sized files. The experimental results show that our method improves the performance and the structure. We give the methods to optimize the object-based cloud storage system to deploy the readily available storage system.展开更多

Compared with standardized laptops or desktop computers, a netbook＇s key f...A netbook, Internet-enabled and with extra portability, has been fast-growing in the domain of information technology （IT） in recent years. Compared with standardized laptops or desktop computers, a netbook＇s key features include a shrunken-down and lightweight laptop that is ＂easy to learn, easy to work, and easy to play＂. This research is to empirically test the influence of user perceptions of this new form of IT （usability, compatibility and relative advantage） associated with playfulness and attitude toward purchase intention. In addition, personal innovativeness of an individual plays an important role in the antecedents of such perceptions. A test of this model, two-stage approach, confirmatory factor analysis （CFA） and structural equation model （SEM） are employed to validate the casual model from among 227 usable respondents who have been using a laptop for more than two years. Results showed support for eleven of twelve research hypotheses, and one new path linking personal innovativeness with attitude toward using is found to be non-siznificant.展开更多

Due to the restricted size and resources of these smaller devices, current works mostly limit the queries that can be posed by users by having them predetermined by the developers. This limits the capability of these devices in supporting robust queries. Hence, this paper proposes a universal relation based database querying language which is targeted for small devices. The language allows formulation of relational database queries that uses minimal query terms. The formulation of the language and its structure will be described and usability test results will be presented to support the effectiveness of the language.展开更多

Trans- lations into Chinese and Korean of A la recherche du temps perdu are ongoing. The Gallica online library of France＇s Bibliothbque nationale makes the notebooks from which Proust＇s novel emerged between 1908 and 1922 digitally accessible any- where in the world. It is well known that Proust has been adapted to graphic novel format, individual volumes of his novel have been adapted for cinema, inspired ballet and musical theatre and his characters＇ lives have fuelled works of fiction by contemporary creative writers. This paper considers a very recent instance of Proust＇s reception and adaptation： ＂Works in Fiber, Paper and Proust＂ created by the critic and theorist Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick （1950-2009） and first exhibited at Harvard University in 2005. These remarkable objects--including what Sedgwick calls an ＂accordion-book＂ and a ＂loom-book＂--give a woven, layered physicality to Proust＇s words and remobilise them in ways that force us to reconfigure our understanding of the text-reader relation. Sedgwick＇s visual, textile artworks are the products of creative, adaptive practices undertaken as a sort of therapy that was instrumental in her coming to terms with the terminal cancer diagnosis she received in 1996. My paper explores Sedgwick＇s adaptive practice and interrogates the in- sights their challenging hybridity offers us into the ongoing transmission of Proust＇s work.展开更多
