Translation is a cognitive activity based on category transformation, which mainly includes transformation of equivalent category, transformation of category member, and transformation of different categories. Based on cognitive category theory, this research takes all the names of characters in Identity V and their English versions as research objects, and then analyzes the types, frequency, and motivations of category transformation in the translation of names. Research finds that most category transformation belongs to transformation of equivalent category while the proportion of transformation of category member and transformation of different categories is similar, but relatively smaller. Meanwhile, metaphor and metonymy are the major reasons for category transformation in the process of translation. This study will provide certain experience for the translation of games from the cognitive perspective of category theory and promote the spread of Chinese game culture.展开更多
